Rise of the Triad: Ludicrous Edition

I've been having fun (and a little frustration) playing the new Rise of the Triad: Ludicrous Edition. I played I think the shareware version of the game years ago when I was a kid, and now I'm finally playing the full game. I love FPSs, so I'm greatly enjoying gunning down those fascist...

Need to upgrade My Video Card

My computer is an Asus Republic of Gamers PC, about ten years old, and it's come to the point where it won't play the AAA titles that are coming out like Doom Eternal, Cyberpunk 2077, Farcry 6, and even Borderlands 3 is just beyond my specifications. Talking about specifications, here they are...

    Video Artifacts

Just last night I started having issues with video artifacts again. A number of months ago, this issue cropped out then just as mysteriously disappeared. I sent the laptop (HP Envy 17) to HP and they just replaced a fan. Temperature is around 70C when gaming, so I don't see a problem there...

    Linux From Scratch

I think I'm going to give this a try. This site http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/ has detailed instructions on custom-building your own Linux system from scratch. I wonder what the best way to do it would be ... new partition or inside a VM?

    HTML5 Goodness!

    First great thing about HTML5: HTML 4.1 Doctype declaration - <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> HTML5 Doctype declaration: <!DOCTYPE html> :D

    Google Chrome and downloads

Has anyone else noticed Google Chrome is really picky about downloads? If it gets interrupted or sometimes even if you pause it, Chrome refuses to resume the download. I've been trying to download the latest Fedora and I've finally switched to Firefox!

    Programming Playstation 3 games

Look what I found http://www.amazon.com/Programming-Cell-Processor-Graphics-Computation/dp/0136008860/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1314424966&sr=8-1. Information on cross-platform programming is scarce, but there are some nuggets floating around. The Cell IDE is linux-based, too!

    British riots

I was wondering what you all think of this. I'm so disgusted with people. In relation to computers, I found it funny they wanted to shut down twitter, etc and the companies refused. Remember when Iran and Egypt did that and Britain, etc criticized it?

    Road Rash REmake

EA did a Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit remake. They should make a Road Rash remake! I heard one was in the works, but I haven't heard anything recently. It would be awesome!

    Cheaters

Don't you hate it when people cheat in games? What brought it to mind for me was a game of Need for Speed a minute ago where a player had what appeared to be unlimited spike strips. You see this off-and-on in most games. Cheating just spoils it for everyone! EDIT: Also, this guy "BrunotheCat"...

    ATITools

I got my HP Envy17 laptop back from HP. If you recall, I was having problems with overheating (gpu-z measured temps over 90 degrees, even sometimes over 100C). They replaced the fan and heatsink. The gpu seems to be working ok now. The laptop is still hot, but temps stay below 90 generally...

    Linksys E3000

I'm thinking about getting a router to replace my Linksys WRT54G. I'm getting a bit tired of its limited capabilities. I like what I've seen of the Linksys E3000. Basically, I want to be able to install Tomato or something similar on it. I have DD-WRT on my WRT54G, but it only has 2MB of flash...

    GNU HURD/Mach

So, do you think GNU will ever finish their HURD/Mach kernel? They don't seem to be making much progress as of late. It's a shame, because I really like the idea of the microkernel server-client architecture as opposed to the monolithic kernel which ties everything into a knot. Mac OS 10...

    Flash crashes Windows 7

I'm having a problem with flash on my new HP Envy 17. Specifically, whenever I try to watch a flash video in any browser, it crashes the browser and within a few minutes (even if I terminate the browser) causes Windows to lock up totally. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling flash, but that...

    Dark Reign

Has anyone else played this game? It was released in '97, and was overshadowed by other RTS's of the day (anything with Westwood or Blizzard stamped on the box)I remember playing this day and night. Now you can download it for free here http://darkreign.ws/. It worked on Windows XP and...
