GNU HURD/Mach

So, do you think GNU will ever finish their HURD/Mach kernel? They don't seem to be making much progress as of late.

It's a shame, because I really like the idea of the microkernel server-client architecture as opposed to the monolithic kernel which ties everything into a knot. Mac OS 10 uses a hybrid design based on the Mach microkernel and is very stable.

You've stumped me on this one... I've never even heard of HURD/Mach. It sounds interesting, though. What's its goal? To become a scaled-down kernel for mobile phones, or something else?

It was intended to be a replacement for the Unix kernel. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gnu_hurd. Development started in 1990, and ironically Linux came along and took its place. Development is ongoing, but only a handful of people are working on it. The 22nd century's OS!
