Believe it or Not, Windows XP Has a Passionate Fanbase

The minimum requirements called for a 486/66... so yes, I'd say it's lightweight ;-) When XP first came out, I believe Pentium 400MHz was the relative norm for a new PC. I think I had a 233MHz at the time, so I was running a little bit behind. I remember it running great though, despite not...

Crytek Speaks Out on the Rasterization vs. Ray Tracing Debate

As far as I'm aware, no commercial PC game right now relies that heavily on ray tracing. Some games may use touches of both, but the performance hit would be too large to build games around it. All games use rasterization. Adding ray tracing would deliver more realistic lighting, but again...

Believe it or Not, Windows XP Has a Passionate Fanbase

I still firmly believe that Vista is still broken... I still run into a lot of needless problems. Since SP1, things have improved, but considering that "Windows 7" is less than two years away, Vista is nowhere near where it should be by now. I agree though. Windows XP is a great OS. It began...

    Everest Ultimate

Download HD Tune to see full SMART information: http://www.hdtune.com/ 115F does seem awful high, although I'm not familiar with those drives in particular. Perhaps it's normal for 10K RPM models.

    This magic Ain't Worth Jack

From our front-page news: I first heard about the magicJack last September at DigitalLife in New York, and was at first skeptical. Well, I was always skeptical, because the product itself didn't seem to make much sense. Just how could a device give you free phone service for such a menial fee...

Just How Impressive is the RED Epic's Resolution?

From our front-page news: There are cameras, and then there are freaking big cameras. Who better to deliver such a freaking big camera than RED? The company first exploded onto the scene last year when they released their RED ONE 4K camera, one that's capable of capturing RAW video at a...

Crytek Speaks Out on the Rasterization vs. Ray Tracing Debate

From our front-page news: Rasterization or ray tracing? It's a somewhat heated debate right now, because while most of the industry has no intention of going the ray tracing route, Intel is pushing for widespread adoption when their Larrabee platform launches. Although ray tracing delivers...

Dell Admits Problematic 3008WFP's, Pulls Model from Web Sites

From our front-page news: I mentioned last month in a news post that my personal decision between two 30-inch behemoths was with Dell's 3008WFP and Gateway's XHD3000, which we reviewed here. Although I appreciated the Dell's higher color gamut and DisplayPort inclusion, I ended up going with...

Believe it or Not, Windows XP Has a Passionate Fanbase

From our front-page news: From the "Wow, who ever expected this?" files, Wired is reporting on the now obvious fact that Windows XP has a huge fanbase, part in thanks to the rather lackluster reception to Windows Vista. We found out just last month that XP's availability will end this coming...

    D-Link DGL-4500 Xtreme N Gaming Router

D-Link's DGL-4500 wireless router brings a lot to the table, including dual-band operation, 802.11n support, a killer built-in OLED screen, on top of features perfectly suited for online gamers. Of course, such a feature-packed router doesn't come cheap, so is it worth your hard-earned $180...

Thermaltake BlacX Hard Drive Docking Station

I knew I saw this product somewhere before, but not under the Thermaltake name. I guess the product just needed a big company to make it popular. No doubt Thermaltake just bought mass amounts of the units from Deltaco, or bought the rights to the product entirely. I believe I've seen other...

    Gaming system

It's interesting, but I am not sure just how much I'd want to hover over a screen to play a game. For an RTS, it would be amazing.

Haha... I am sure the 30MBit downstream that you were getting before the upgrade was really beginning to become a burden :-)

    Hiding your secret files

You'd have to want to hide something real bad in order to go through such trouble. Hide files in a folder no one would guess and disable the search feature of Windows... tah dah! Easier. Or use Linux. No one will jump on my PC and know where to look for my "secret files".

Intel Demos 3.2GHz Nehalem at Shanghai IDF

I might be blind, but from those pictures, the CPU looks to be a similar size to what we see right now. It's just the socket that's increased in size.

ASUS Unveils "Essentio" CS5110 Mini-Desktop PC

And looks great, in my opinion. There is not too much to come out of the ASUS' camp that I am really impressed with, but I think this would look great, no matter where you throw it.

    Passwords

I agree... it might not matter to them if their password leads to stolen data, but it sure matters to the company. Six characters is still very weak, however. Even with a capital and number, the password would take no more than ten minutes to crack on a reasonably-powered machine (or less...
