    My rig is overheating lately...

Yeah, definitely blow out the dust that's in there. I tend to do this once a week, just because I have a room that seems to be an insane dust magnet.

Data Recovered from Shuttle Columbia Hard Drive

Here's another. If I ignore your posts, I have less of a headache! Variables are fun ;) (I am kidding, by the way)

Intel's P45 Shows Promise, As Does ASUS' P5Q Deluxe

No, as far as I know it's still based on 65nm... it just has a few features removed. Intel is keeping mum on things though, so I'll have to go by what's leaked. They'll be going into more detail at a conference at Computex in a few weeks.

    Asus Blu Ray Drive

Like Rory said, the cache doesn't matter for a ROM drive. As long as it plays BD content, I don't think it matters. If it were a writer, it'd be an entirely different story.

    Palit GeForce 9600GSO Sonic 768MB

On a budget and need the best bang for the buck? NVIDIA's new 9600 GSO might be the answer, despite not being that different from a 9600 GT. We are taking a look at Palit's Sonic version of the card, which comes pre-overclocked, doubles the memory and includes adapters for both HDMI and VGA...

    Qimonda Bringing GDDR5 to ATI's Radeon 4000-series

From our front-page news: AMD has decided to lead the pack where GPU memory is concerned, and Qimonda is the company to deliver. The Radeon 4000 series, which will launch next month, will be the first to feature GDDR5, an evolutionary upgrade to GDDR4, which will feature faster speeds, improved...

    NVIDIA's GTX 200-series Specs Revealed

From our front-page news: While NVIDIA's 9-series launch seemed a bit lackluster, given that they were primarily an over-glorified 8-series (though I can't say enough good about the 9600 GT), the companies' upcoming GTX 200 cards are looking to wipe the disgruntled looks off all our faces...

Intel to Launch Q9650 in Q3 to Replace QX9650

From our front-page news: According to Chinese hardware site HKEPC, Intel will be discontinuing the current high-end QX9650 Extreme processor in Q3, with an identically-specced mid-range offering, appropriately named, Q9650. The new CPU will be identical all-around to the QX9650, including the...

Gateway's XHD3000 Now Works Under Linux (Somehow)

From our front-page news: When I reviewed Gateway's XHD3000 a few months ago, I complained that Linux would not work with it at the native resolution. To me, that was a big problem, since I occasionally benchmark under Linux on our test rigs. Other than that though, the monitor was fantastic...

    Linux Evolution Email and folders

You will need to create message filters. Go to Edit > Message Filters and create whatever ones you need to. You can match titles or e-mail addresses, and then tell it what to do with it, such as moving it to a specific folder. Evolution in my experience is rather dull though. If you find that...

Intel's P45 Shows Promise, As Does ASUS' P5Q Deluxe

Another thing I should add is that I've found the P5Q Deluxe to use less power overall, when compared to the P5E3 Premium, which is a little odd since I thought the more phase units on board, the more power it would suck. Is the P45 optimized that much more than X38, or is the EPU really kicking...

    My rig is overheating lately...

I tend to like Zalman quite a bit, but I'm not sure if they are the "best" (I'm no cooling guru). I've been pleased with them, though. I have two 9700LED in the Skulltrail rig which has two beefy Quad-Cores, and considering it keeps them both at very reasonable levels, I have no problem...

    Samsung 275T 27-inch Wide-Screen

The heat can be a definite problem, without question. My Dell 2408WFP doesn't have such a problem, but the Gateway XHD3000 does. I didn't test the temperature off of it though, but I'm sure it would be right up there with this Samsung. Since I have a smaller room here, I tend to sit rather...

    Logitech Cordless Precision PS3 Controller

That is incredibly odd, given how much support Logitech has given to the game. Thanks for the heads-up.

    Gigabyte GA-X48T-DQ6

Well, it has dual PCI slots because X38 demands there be two. The chipset supports Crossfire, so leaving only a single slot would somewhat hold back a feature. In that case, you'd probably just want a P35 board, of which there are many with a single slot. I would have personally liked to see a...

    Building an Affordable "Skulltrail" System

Hmm, I wish I had a perfect idea for you, but I don't think I do. I assume no overclocking is going to be done, so even two large Thermalright passive coolers with low-noise 120mm fans might do the trick. I still think you'd want good airflow though, because these Quad-Cores will heat up after a...

AMD Updates CPU Launch Schedule - Phenom 9850 Due In a Few Weeks

This is a bit confusing, to say the least. From what I can gather, each Cell CPU contains nine cores, but ten threads. There are eight SPEs, each of which are single-threaded, and then the Power Processor Element, which is unlike the other cores, but is still considered to be one. So, it's nine...

Windows XP's SP3 Makes Reverting to IE6 Impossible

No, 750MB is not normal at all. I just have an odd setup where I'm emulating a 32-bit plugin, which doesn't help at all. I believe also part of it has to do with it allowing more memory to be used since so much is available. I have 4GB and 4GB worth of swap, so it feels free to take up as much...

Funpidgin Released, Fixes Crippled Pidgin Feature

I have no problem with file transfers with AIM or MSN, although they are a little slow. I believe that to be more with the distance of friends than the protocol though. I can't speak for ICQ since I haven't used it since 2001. I had no idea it was still being used by so many people. Here's...

    My rig is overheating lately...

Does the computer now have less airflow than in the old house? You might want to check that the CPU cooler is secure as it should be, since it could have shifted even a little bit during travel. It might also be worth it to pick up some thermal paste and remount the cooler after being cleaned.
