Two Monitors Are Better Than One

From our front-page news: I've heard from what must be a hundred different people that adding a second monitor to your setup can increase your productivity two-fold, although I'm still not sold. Now, if you had two sets of hands, then I could see how that would be the life. But as Kim Komando of...

    Fourteen Best Linux Distros

From our front-page news: Alright, I've been posting a lot of Linux-related news lately, but it's hard not to. There have been so many good articles lately, that I'd feel like I'm doing a disservice by not posting them. Last week, I linked to Lifehacker, who posted a good article on choosing...

Diamond Says 188 Cards Faulty, Not Thousands

From our front-page news: Last Wednesday, I posted a story regarding thousands of Diamond Multimedia ATI cards that might be defective, and since then, there has been many updates. The day after that news was posted, TG Daily followed-up their coverage by relaying the message from Diamond that...

    Smart Monitoring Software

If neither drive spits out SMART information, then chances are good that it's disabled in the BIOS - so check there first. All SMART applications read the information from the same spot, so it's unlikely to be a software issue.

We're taking a look at Intel's first attempt at a full-featured media center motherboard, the DG45ID. It's also our first look at their new G45 Express chipset, which promises to finally bring DX 10 support and hardware-accelerated HD video playback to their integrated graphics offerings. Can...

Fedora, openSUSE, Ubuntu - Which is Right For You?

Whoever says Ubuntu isn't a real Linux distro is an idiot. I'm not fond of it, to be honest, but that's just me. For the newer Linux user, it's simple to use and get used to, and for the pro, the ability to hack it to hell is there. I'd like to know what a "real" Linux distro is, if it isn't the...

Best Buy Imitates Customer, Refuses Sale Price

Just call them up and negotiate something. I'm in Canada, and even Gateway was willing to send me a replacement XHD3000 before I had to send them back the one I had. Ordering things online is easier in all regards... even if you bought from a store like Sears, you are still going to have to wait...

Sandra 2009 Brings GPGPU Benchmarking to our Toolbox

Where did you find the 1.1 beta? I can't locate it anywhere. I installed the 1.2 beta to see if Sandra would pick up on it, but for whatever reason, it didn't. I've e-mailed AMD to see if I can get a solution though. It would be nice to be able to benchmark AMD cards in addition to NVIDIA cards.

Sandra 2009 Brings GPGPU Benchmarking to our Toolbox

Hi Chuck: Welcome to the forums! I don't believe GPGPU 1.1 works with SANDRA, since it doesn't have Windows Vista support, but I believe the latest 1.2 beta does. You can download that here: http://ati.amd.com/technology/streamcomputing/sdkdwnld.html I've been benchmarking ATI cards for the...

NVIDIA Set to Rename Current GPUs

From our front-page news: Back in May, it became known that NVIDIA had plans to do something with their lineup's naming scheme... something to take out the complication for end-users. After all, enthusiasts like you who visit this site know the difference between a 9800 GTX and 9800 PRO, but the...

Fedora, openSUSE, Ubuntu - Which is Right For You?

From our front-page news: If you are a frequent reader of our news (I'll assume you are), you are no doubt aware that I'm a Linux user, and a happy one at that. I'm not the type to discredit all other OS' out there though, because even I have a dedicated Windows' machine that I use for Adobe...

    Logitech Illuminated Keyboard

We have a brand-new recruit, and what better way to kick off his staff-ness with a look at one of Logitech's best-looking keyboards? Logitech's diNovo Edge is undeniably a great-looking keyboard, but it's also undeniably expensive. The new Illuminated Keyboard promises to deliver a lot of the...

    Zalman GS1000 Full-Tower

The first name that comes to mind when pondering a new chassis isn't likely to be Zalman, but with the few enthusiast models they've released so far, it's easy to see they mean business. We're taking their brand-new GS1000 for a spin to see if its features and size make up for the $199 price...

From our front-page news: NVIDIA has gone ahead and partnered themselves with another company, this time one that promises to give the company's CUDA technology a huge boost. Top Thirteen Error Screens

From our front-page news: Ahh, the error screen. Where would we be without 'em? Whether it's a Blue Screen of Death or a simple error pop-up from an application, they're a required part of computing, but undoubtedly one of the most annoying aspects of computing as well. The Technologizer blog...

Spore's DRM Leads to Class Action Lawsuit Against EA

From our front-page news: Spore... can't the poor game catch a break? Nope, not as long as DRM exists in the software. We've covered the DRM in Spore many times in our news already, but the latest happening is a class action lawsuit against EA, stating that the company violated two different...

From our front-page news: On Monday, we broke the news that big changes were coming to VoodooPC, and although we are still unsure of the end-effect these changes will have, we are a little better informed today. Hasselblad to Announce 60 Megapixel Camera Next Year

From our front-page news: Just the other day, I posted about Leica's new high-end D-SLR that features a sensor capable of capturing 37 megapixels, which is impressive in itself, but even more impressive to be coming from a company like Leica. But when you think of cameras with an insanely large...

Best Buy Imitates Customer, Refuses Sale Price

You can buy one from Best Buy - the key is to learn how to not cry when it breaks and you realize they'll do little to help you. I'd personally order one online, but I'd be sure to read lots of reviews from reputable sites before you commit to one.
