    Building an Affordable "Skulltrail" System

I don't believe the CPU has any deciding factor in the voltage used. The "absolute max" is just their figure for max supported. If you knowingly go over, the CPU is no longer under warranty. Err... I was getting mixed up over what the MCH was. I would be wrong... and yes, that should be...

    PlayStation Home... thoughts?

Huge waste of time, it seems. The implementation is alright for the most part, but it seems the biggest issue are the idiots that use it. It's hard to moderate things, so I'm not sure what Sony is going to do to make the thing that usable, or enjoyable.

NVIDIA Rolling Out 40nm GPUs in 2009

It's hard to say what the GT212 will be... perhaps we'll be told a bit more about it at CES. It does seem odd that it would be a direct replacement, but who knows.

Can Apple Customers Still Feel Special?

Haha, I think it goes without saying that Apple is going to be sitting pretty for a while. Any company would dream of having such a sweet revenue stream like that. The smartest thing they ever did was release the iPod, because without it, the iPhone wouldn't likely ever exist. I admit that the...

    HAF mod Start

That setup looks sweet Bill... tons of airflow! Merlin, looking forward to seeing the progress on this one. I love the matte black color!

    Tale of two topics.

I haven't read through all of the URLs here, but I don't think this new company should be able to intercept customer's transmissions like that. This is something that bugs me deeply. We pay for access to the Internet... we shouldn't have to put up with hassles like that. It's essentially adding...

ASUS' Xonar Essense STX Designed for High-End Headphone Users

Bah, I'm heading out the door now for a couple of hours, but I'll take a look once I get back. We will indeed be reviewing the card, for sure. It's en route now :-) Welcome to the forums, by the way!

    Intel Pentium Dual-Core E5200

Need to upgrade or build a brand-new PC, but are on a very limited budget? If you don't mind making some small sacrifices, Intel's Wolfdale-based Pentium Dual-Core E5200 is worthy of serious consideration. Despite retailing for only $80, it offers solid performance and some incredible...

Is the OpenOffice.org Project in Good Health?

From our front-page news:That's a question that's being brought up in a semi-recent blog post by OOo developer Michael Meeks, and it's a good one. While companies like Microsoft can afford a large team of developers to dedicate themselves to working on their product, OpenOffice depends mostly on...

NVIDIA Rolling Out 40nm GPUs in 2009

From our front-page news: According to leaked documents seen by VR-Zone, NVIDIA is preparing to roll out their first 40nm graphics processors this spring, beginning with the high-end GT212. To launch 40nm so soon would be a rather impressive feat, given that few current GPUs from NVIDIA are even...

Linux Kernel 2.6.28 Brings ext4, GEM, UWB Support and More

From our front-page news: Although most people thought of last Thursday as being Christmas, it seems the Linux Kernel developers thought of it as being the perfect day for a fresh kernel launch: 2.6.28. Codenamed "Erotic Pickled Herring", the updated kernel brings a lot of changes and updates...

First Blu-spec Audio CDs Hit the Market

From our front-page news: Early last month, SonyMusic Japan sent out a press release touting the "Blu-spec" CD specification, which isn't a new format in itself, but rather a new method for recording CD masters. Traditional methods use infra-red lasers, which as has become common knowledge...

Nintendo Stomps the Competition with November Sales

You are one hell of a Wii advocate, Stork, so go ahead and believe whatever you want. You are far too blind to the facts to care otherwise. I agree that the Wii can likely handle some cool effects, but how much does that matter when it can't handle them all at the same time? Even with decent AA...

[ABT] Nvidia uses GDDR5, Finally !!

You got that right. I'm still not sure how much of a performance gain can be attributed to just the RAM, but if NVIDIA releases the same models with both GDDR3 and then 5, it should be quite easy to find out.

    Antec P182 Performance Mid-Tower

That fan is indeed a RAM fan... that one in particular is Corsair's DOMINATOR flow fan, although other companies produce them as well. I tend to like Corsair's the most due to its look and clamping mechanism. As for the BIOS stuff, don't hesitate to ask for help, although this particular thread...

    Intel Core i7 Performance Preview

I've achieved 3.6GHz on near-stock voltages on our i7-920, so anything less than that should be a relative breeze. I'd go for 3.2GHz, perhaps, which would match the i7-965. It would require a little more voltage depending on the motherboard, in order to achieve a Base Clock of 160MHz, but it...

Nintendo Stomps the Competition with November Sales

Hmm... who said the consoles were comparable to the PC? No one would dispute the fact that the PC has the better graphics of them all, and that will always be the way. Twilight Princess is a Nintendo-developed game. They'd care more about pushing the limits of the console than anyone, but...

[ABT] Nvidia uses GDDR5, Finally !!

Well, this isn't much of a surprise as it's been bound to happen, but it's good to see some comfirmation regardless. I'm surprised that neither the GTX 285 or GTX 295 use GDDR5... you'd imagine that we'd see some nice benefits there, and help NVIDIA push even further past ATI. It is a little odd...

Intel Contest: Tell Us YOUR Processor Story and Win!

Simple math it might be, but there's still a fair amount of assumptions going on. It's cool though... I look forward to a time when Quad's far out-number Dual's though. I want more multi-threaded applications... bad. It sucks to have a Quad-Core and have it under-utilized most of the time, haha.

    Q6600 vs. E8400

Yeah to be honest, I'd recommend the Quad. Just overclock it a little bit and you'll almost match the E8400 in terms of single-threaded speed.
