    Techgage @ CES 2009

Whoa... is it that time of year already? It feels like we just left the previous CES, but lo and behold, it's here again. The reason it likely feels so fresh in our minds, well, me at least, is that it's easily one of the most exhaustive shows on the planet. This is why we don't usually stress...

    Personal Favorite Games of 2008

Thanks to a general lack of time, when I do find time to play games, I tend to be drawn to my old-school MMO, simply because I know it's not going to be around forever. I do need to make sure I make more time for gaming this year though, since I feel like I need to game more. It's sick that I...

Windows 7 vs XP vs Vista

It's not much of a surprise to me that Windows 7 performs so well at this point. It's built on Vista, but slimmed down... of course it's going to be damn stable and more stable than Vista. Not a bad thing though. This is one OS release I'm looking forward to.

    Core i7 920 - $230 at Frys

I still don't understand how these companies make cash on these things when the per 1,000 cost is much higher than that. Either way, that's one heck of a fantastic deal.

    Your HDD has feelings too!

Can anyone explain this? I don't understand how shouting at a rack of hard drives in action is going to cause that much vibration to cause the entire JBOD to slow right down. If so, that's a very sad state of things. Speaking of state... Solid State could fix this, no?

    Intel Core i7 Performance Preview

I owe Kougar a beer one of these days... he definitely makes sure no one is left uninformed (including me!). You as well, and feel free to drop by anytime :-)

Intel Core i7 - Choosing the Best Memory Kit

Haha. It will take a LOT to hurt your processor, especially if you keep to reasonable settings. I wouldn't recommend going over 1.40v on the CPU... just to be safe. The temps on i7 can get pretty ridiculous, and adding voltage is just going to make it worse.

    ATI HD 4870 1GB vs. NVIDIA GTX 260/216 896MB: Follow-Up

Hi Unregistered: Simply moving from 65nm to 55nm isn't going to make a large difference at all, where performance is concerned. You might see a small difference, but nothing noticeable in real-world gameplay. I'm not sure I can comment on the heatsink, but NVIDIA cards tend to run a little...

    Intel Pentium Dual-Core E5200

Welcome to the forums, both of you :-) PopcornMachine: The thing I found out about this chip in the review was that it does NOT like a high FSB frequency. Our top clock was 300MHz FSB, and even that might be too high on certain motherboards. The Rampage Extreme is built a little more to...

    Your Top 2008 Music?

Woo... talk about one heck of a fast year. It feels like I just made a personal top ten not long ago, but here we are again. Like last year, this thread is completely open to your own personal top list, and if you really don't listen to that much new music, feel free to post just what you have...

    ATI HD 4870 1GB vs. NVIDIA GTX 260/216 896MB

The card we used was a pre-overclocked model, but it wasn't overclocked during testing. We used RivaTuner to bring the specs back to reference clocks, to keep things fair.

    Zunes Attempt to Shun 2009

Yeah, it was a half-joke that I was unsure of the stability of these things. I've been pondering picking one up for a while, and might still if I can't find my old Sansa.

    ATI HD 4870 1GB vs. NVIDIA GTX 260/216 896MB

Hi there: Thanks a lot for the nice comments, we appreciate them :-) ATI and NVIDIA both have some great cards out right now... so the next few months should be interesting. Especially once NVIDIA gets the GTX 285 out the door.

    Building an Affordable "Skulltrail" System

If you are having that rough of a time in finding it, I'd be willing to bet it's not there. I looked at the screenshots from our review and can't find reference to it either :-/

    Intel Pentium Dual-Core E5200

Hi there: Thanks for the nice comments. The reason we didn't include more results in our power consumption test is because a lot of the CPUs there are "simulated", meaning that we don't have the real CPU, but rather take the next step up that we do have, and down-clock it. So for example with...

Intel Core i7 - Choosing the Best Memory Kit

You don't need to ask for allowance to test out new settings... half of the fun of overclocking is to just apply a setting and see what works. 3.8GHz might very-well work, but it'd be a tough one. Those settings you show there are fine... if it's stable at that, I sure wouldn't complain. Our...

    Zunes Attempt to Shun 2009

From our front-page news: Some people spend the last day of the year differently than others. Some might prepare their resolutions, while others treat it like any other day. If you are a Zune user, you might very-well not be listening to your music today. Although the reason for the mass suicide...

Notebooks Outsell Desktops for First Time

From our front-page news:There's been a few notable people in the industry over the course of the past few years who have made suggestions that mobile computers would outsell desktops very soon, but most of these "guesses" hovered around 2010. But thanks to the massive surge of netbook sales...

Intel Launches Five 45nm Mobile Processors

From our front-page news: I am not quite sure if new launches were to be expected, but Intel has updated their price list to include five new Penryn-based 45nm mobile processors, including a brand-new entry to their Quad-Core family, the Q9000. This 2.0GHz offering halves the amount of L2 Cache...

    Intel Core i7 Performance Preview

Wow man, I had no idea that they could draw quite that much power. Good to know.
