    Vista's Security..the honeymoon's OVER!

Apples security is good, that's for sure. That still doesn't rid the fact that OS X leaves a lot to be desired for the normal PC enthusiast. I am impressed that over an entire year, not a single virus has been written to successfully fark up Apple systems. People cannot be trying very hard, or...

American record companies at their best...

That's the sad thing. I ordered the import version which gets me all the tracks in addition to a few extra ones. Costs a little more, but at least I can avert the RIAA that way (I think).

Got my EVGA 680i A1 *Pics*

Good stuff man. Glad to see such a well thought-out build. I am incredibly lazy when it comes to my computer, so I am not sure I'd ever take the time to put something like that together, heh. I am a wimp and stick to all-in-one water cooling kits.

    Cedega 6.0

Alright, -1 point for you, since you moved from a great distro to a sub par one. "I couldn't exit the X server no matter which init I tried or even crashing the X server would bring it right back up again." Did you kill all the processes related to it? I find it odd that you couldn't...

    ASUS WL-500W SuperSpeed N Router

Hah, welcome to the forums man. I haven't paid much attention to Tiesto being an attention whore, and have never really noticed it. His music is incredible. That's all I care about ;-) Interesting program there... I have never heard of it before, but I'd like to download it and give it a try...

    Vista's Security..the honeymoon's OVER!

The argument here is not about running OS X. No one in this thread wants to run OS X because of the lack of gaming support (and mass application support). You are acting like OS X is a Godsend, and it's far from it. If moving from a Windows PC to OS X cuts you off severely from the...

Got my EVGA 680i A1 *Pics*

That's quite the setup man! Glad the new board is working out for you so far. I'm curious to see your max FSB. Hopefully it will be higher than mine (450FSB). Most people are reaching 500FSB and beyond, so here's hoping you will find the same. How loud is your machine, out of curiosity?

    Vista's Security..the honeymoon's OVER!

Or you could purchase a dual socket Xeon motherboard and install 2x 2.66GHz Xeons, which can be easily overclocked to 3.5GHz. So yes, you can build a system to outperform that one, easily. Especially when it comes to the video card and the slow DDR2-667 ram.

    Seagate FreeAgent Pro 750GB

I agree. Seagate is the only company to have earned a 9/10 score or higher in every single review (that I recall) on our site. Their product development team must have some hardcore endurance ;-)

    Rendering 3D animations and video

3D Studio for $3,000 doesn't seem like much of a discount. Usually student discounts are like 25% of the retail price, not a measly 15% off. That aside.. any savings are good savings I suppose. That card will suit you fine, but I highly recommend doing good Google searches prior, to make sure...

    Seagate 7200.2 160GB Notebook Drive

There is absolutely no difference between replacing a desktop hard drive and a notebook hard drive. You will just need to replace the hard drive that came with your laptop with the Seagate 7200 and install Windows once you boot up. The installer will take care of formatting and that jazz.

Yeah even on Quad-Core I didn't find a difference with the latest BIOS. I have bad luck.

    ASUS A8JS 14inch Widescreen Notebook

I have absolutely no idea, I never measured it and it's no longer here. I can't even give an estimate because I don't even recall what the box looked like. Sorry.

    Seagate FreeAgent Pro 750GB

The Seagate FreeAgent Pro combines a sleek external design with a solid, reliable drive inside. But the FreeAgent’s feature set doesn’t end there. Here’s a look at what makes the Seagate FreeAgent Pro such an attractive solution for anyone looking to add external storage to their system. You...

    e4300, evga 680i revision A1 overclocking

Interesting. I guess I didn't look at closely. CPU-z still calls it a 680 SB though. Either way, if that's the only difference between the revisions, I am not sure why A1 "tends" to have better overclocks. I noticed there is a T1 revision on NewEgg as well, although I am not sure whats different...

Hmm, I am confused. 570/590 Southbridge on a 680 board? What am I misunderstanding?

    Cedega 6.0

Welcome to the forums :-) It's nice to see someone else from Indy as well (DarkSynergy and Taterworks are both from Indiana). Do you use Windows primarily right now? If so, I'd still keep a dual-boot prospect in mind in case you find a game doesn't work that well under Linux. I have the...

    Cedega 6.0

Unregistered, :P misconfiguration, I am not aware of any converting that goes on, but I've included a screenshot of the profile editor, where it allows you to choose either or. During testing, I used ALSA and had no problems at all. I listened to music pretty much throughout all of the testing...

    e4300, evga 680i revision A1 overclocking

I flashed to P27 the day it was made available... and it didn't help me at all. I did read on another forum where someone was in a similar situation... 450FSB was his max. Then with P27 he was up over 500FSB. The 800FSB on the CPU won't mean much when overclocking... it's not a "hard limit"...
