    ASUS A8JS 14inch Widescreen Notebook

The box (which included the bag as well) was 15lbs.

    sound cards

Yeah, I don't have 5.1 headphones on the gaming rig. I use Turtle Beach HPA 5.1 headphones on my primary PC, but I don't game on it at all. Maybe I should move those headphones over to the other PC, heh.

    Notebook storage :-\

Bump. My review of Seagates huge 160GB 7200 RPM drive: http://techgage.com/article/seagate_momentus_72002_160gb_notebook_drive/ Now to wait for even larger drives...

    Vista's Security..the honeymoon's OVER!

Vistas insecure? Not much of a surprise. It's bound to happen to any OS that sells 15 million copies and was in beta testing for months prior to launch ;-) I could care less about the insecurities if I found it to be at least stable... at all.

    Rendering 3D animations and video

6GB of ram? That won't make much sense, unless you had 1GB * 6 for proper bank interleaving. 8GB would be the best scenario, with 2GB * 4. SLI in Linux is still in it's infancy, so I wouldn't rely on it for anything. I am very doubtful that Blender would recognize the fact that you have it. The...

    Your thoughts on Quad Core?

Well, with a smaller process and (maybe) the High-K transistor types, they should be more efficient overall with lower voltage. In that sense, they should run cooler. It wouldn't be a monumental difference though, especially once overclocking and increasing the voltage. "The sad truth is that...

    e4300, evga 680i revision A1 overclocking

I began overclocking with this board the other day, and haven't been able to hit a high FSB like I have seen many others have. I believe my max at this point is 450FSB, but I am using an AR board. Bab, what has your highest FSB been with the A1 board?

    Won't Boot

I am confused as well. Ubuntu would not install if it couldn't detect the hard drives properly, unless you installed to the slave drive? Even then, Linux will normally install the boot loader into the first drive in priority. I'd unhook one of the hard drives (just unplug it) and see where you...

    sound cards

$80 seems like a great price. Would that card make much of a difference with headphones? That's strictly what I use on my gaming PC, thanks to lack of room.

    WiFi is completely unstable...

Well I am using a different router at the moment, and it seems to be performing a bit better for me. Will be hard to tell right away though, since my primary two computers are wired.

American record companies at their best...

Most record companies are owned by the big four, aye. Maybe not if you consider the sheer amount of independent, but the sales would no where match what the big four push out. In the case of Tiesto, like most artists overseas, the album gets passed to an entirely different label, one that...

    Cedega 6.0

The anticipated 6.0 version of Cedega is now upon us, and we are taking a look at what's new and notable. Updates include Shader Model 2.0 support, file optimizations and a larger games database with the additions of Oblivion and Need For Speed: Carbon. Is this the version Linux gamers...

American record companies at their best...

Tiesto released a new album... as my avatar suggests. But that's not my rant. The rant is that American record companies ALWAYS rip out tracks out of the original disc before selling over here. Why? Who the hell knows. Ministry of Sound for example, releases "The Annual" each year. If you buy...

    Toms Hardware sold?

Rumor has it that Toms Hardware has been sold for $15-$20 million dollars. Tom’s Hardware Guide and its parent company TG Publishing have been sold to an undisclosed buyer for an undisclosed price. The deal will close later this month, said Omid Rahmat, CEO of Tom’s Publishing, in a letter to...

    OCZ Equalizer Laser Gaming Mouse

OCZ has been hard at work lately. Their product lineup has evolved from offering power supplies and ram to flash drives, cooling solutions, video cards and even gaming mice. However, one thing’s stayed the same: they’ve targeted themselves towards enthusiasts. You can read our 400th article...

    Vizo Luxon External HDD Enclosure

Hmm, I wish I could verify anything. This was a while ago. There is a picture in the review that shows it lit up purple, so you might want to e-mail them. Or, hopefully another Luxon owner will come around and put doubts to rest. I really can't remember anything from that review :/

    ASUS WL-500W SuperSpeed N Router

It's the WL-700gE... I should have a review up in the coming days. It's similar to the others, except it includes a 160GB built-in. I plan on testing all that out today :)

Cooler Master X-Craft 350 HD Enclosure

Are the other external enclosures connected to the same, or different USB ports? There might be a variety of things that come into play. Smart to use checksums though, it's a great idea.

    GAIM becomes Pidgin

The popular multi-network chat client GAIM is being forced to rename due to conflict with the bastards at AOL. The new name is Pidgin, but it has nothing to do with a bird. Rather, pidgen is when two languages are combined. So, it's somewhat appropriate since it combines multiple chat networks...

If Mac OS was offered on PC, would you buy?

Yes, that's the thing. Mac Pros cost $2,500 for starters. Most PC enthusiasts can build an absolute kick ass machine for $1,500 and have more overall freedom. If Apple wants the Mac to truly go mainstream, a lot of changes will need to be made. The question is though... is that what they want...
