    So, I'm buying a PC..

Did you cut the PSU out entirely, or am I just missing it? You should make sure you get one... I wouldn't trust the one that comes with that chassis. Other than that, the system and that monitor look like fine choices! Just check out a review of that monitor from a reputable site first.

As mentioned yesterday, it went out today.

No it's not. I edited the thread to say Sold, but the forum index doesn't reflect it...

    Samsung 743B 17-inch Monitor

As mentioned in the first post, this was Matt S' review, not mine :-)

    So, I'm buying a PC..

I just had a quick look... and noticed that the Q6700 is £165 more than the Q6600, so drop that and just go with the latter. The Q6600 can be easily overclocked to Q6700 speeds, should you feel the need for additional speed. Most new Q6600's overclock far beyond 3.0GHz on air, so 2.66GHz...

    So, I'm buying a PC..

What base system did you begin off on their site? I mean the model, so I can try configuring the same one and give advice, give your price range. I can't tonight though, but can take a look tomorrow. Given you are in the UK, I assume it's very early morning there (very late night here ;-))...

    Samsung 743B 17-inch Monitor

Think large displays are over-rated? Then Samsung's brand new 743B might just be worth a look. At 17-inches, it sure isn't for everyone. It offers a 1280x1024 resolution, fast 5ms response time and an outstanding 7000:1 contrast ratio. Does this small monitor pack a big punch? You can read...

Haha, good catch! I must be blind to not catch a typo like that in such a small block of text.

    So, I'm buying a PC..

To be honest, it almost seems like a bad idea to buy a pre-built machine instead of building one by yourself. When building one yourself, you have the ultimate set of choices and are not limited to just a few. When the best a boutique can offer is a Q6700, I have to raise questions. Since that...

DDR3 Price Premium to Shrink to 10% in 2H

Prices might not to down to the level of DDR2, at least soon, but even if they are lowered to the same prices that DDR2 was at, say, last summer, it would be a win. The actual benefits of DDR3 can be disputed, but the fact of the matter is, it's nice knowing that a high-bandwidth and low-latency...

Tell me about it. I am not even sure how that system works without a power supply.

    Intel Skulltrail Enthusiast Platform Preview

I couldn't agree more. It would have been nice to see DDR3 even, but given the chipset that Skulltrail is based off of, I can understand why Intel chose to take this route. I have no doubt that if once released, potential is seen, then Intel will essentially merge the benefits from both the 5400...

    So, I'm buying a PC..

Welcome to the forums DriftingJoint! What base system on their site did you choose from? There are a few parts there that don't make much sense to me in this point and time. The Q6700, for example, was released in late 2006. There have been multiple successors since that time, and when building...

    Intel Skulltrail Enthusiast Platform Preview

Purchasing a 4GB stick for the sake of it wouldn't make any sense. The D5400XS board tops out at 8GB, so the best idea is to pick up four sticks of 2GB, for $80 more than that single 4GB stick: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2280016 Once you get...

    Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0GHz - Wolfdale Arrives

It's hard to go wrong with Intel's 45nm offerings... it just depends on what you want or need, dual or quad. I look forward to the Q9xxx CPUs coming out... those are going to be fun to play with - especially if they overclock like the dual core offerings at all.

    Project: Deuce

Looking great TD! Are those flames going to remain the same color on the final product? I like the fact that you are experimenting with the color and not going down the same road so many have with generic coloring.

I haven't heard anything that great about the movie either... surprised it scored so high at Rotten Tomatoes.

ASUS Xonar and Ultrasone PRO 750's Under Linux

From our front-page news: Two weeks ago, I posted about using CMI8788-based sound cards under Linux, with a status report of my personal experiences. Not much has changed since then, although the developer, Clemens Ladisch has released a few subsequent beta drivers, the most current being from...

NY Giants Win Superbowl, End Patriots Winning Streak

From our front-page news: To the chagrin of Patriot fans all over (and the euphoria for anyone in Indiana state), the New York Giants have taken home the Lombardi Trophy, and a well-deserved one at that. It could be argued that most of the game was rather laid-back, but the last ten minutes were...

    Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0GHz - Wolfdale Arrives

Yes, I realize, but the fact of the matter is, that's an odd comparison. I mentioned that the E8400 is able to overclock far enough to beat a Q6600 at stock speed, so obviously, a Q6600 that's overclocked will beat the E8400. Simple math comes into play: Q6600 = 2.4GHz * 4 = 9.6GHz E8400 =...
