NVIDIA 9800GTX and GX2 Get Greenlight

I'll definitely look through those later. I linked to X-bit labs today, but didn't realize they were all on some sort of NDA. I need to get back into the GPU game...

    Defrag @ boot

I believe you mean a check disk, not a defrag. That can sometimes happen when a thumb drive is plugged into the system, so make sure there isn't one. It could also be that the hard drive really is messed up. So you might want to check up on it in Windows and make sure the SMART information is...

    Advice requested.......

The 7200.11 series in itself is fantastic. The 32MB of cache can sometimes deliver noticeable results. There have been a few times when I've copied a reasonable file (50Mb), and it copied so fast that a prompt didn't even show face. Why and how that happens, I'm unsure, but it's happened to me...

    What Memory for Gigabyte M57SLI-S4?

When it comes to purchasing a GPU, just pick one that looks good and fits your budget. The ASUS one might be pre-overclocked, enhancing performance a bit, but since you are using such a low resolution, it won't likely matter. You will be able to run ANY game just fine at that resolution, right...

Seagate CEO Unimpressed With SSDs for Notebooks

So have I... both of them were Corsair Voyagers (could be a coincidence). When SSD's first came out, this is what I thought of. I haven't heard of any real reliability issues regarding them so far. As for the file system issue, is the write speed really that bad? I haven't looked at a chart...

    Instructables contest....

Probably not at a distance, but if you strapped it to your chest, you'd always be guaranteed to get to the front of the line while at the supermarket.

South Park episodes for free (kind of)!

Wow, that made me laugh. Surprisingly, I did not expect that one. Seriously man! It's too bad nothing is right around the corner. Even if there were, I'm sure it would be mighty expensive. It seems no one believes in WiMAX, but I think it has potential, but so do other upcoming cell phone...

Seagate CEO Unimpressed With SSDs for Notebooks

Haha. That reminds me of how much we were ripped off back then. I remember paying over $40 for an additional 4MB of RAM for my Nintendo 64! Sure, it was worth it since I could play Donkey Kong 64 and Perfect Dark in higher resolution, but man, that could have bought another game!

South Park episodes for free (kind of)!

It looks like Trey Parker, Matt Stone and Co. are realizing that digital distribution is the way of the future. They've made EVERY single episode available online, although with a few caveats. Of course, the episodes have minor ads, and none of the videos can be downloaded. For many though, this...

Seagate CEO Unimpressed With SSDs for Notebooks

Seagate, a company firmly entrenched in traditional hard disk drive (HDD) storage, unsurprisingly is not impressed with SSDs. "Realistically, I just don’t see the flash notebook sell," said Seagate CEO Bill Watkins. "We just don’t see the proposition." It's understandable that Watkins would...

ASUS Announces Splendid HD1 "Video Enhance Card"

From our front-page news: While visiting ASUS at CES this past January, I noticed the Splendid HD1 card tacked to a wall, but no one around could explain to me what it was. So here we are today... ASUS have announced the card. The problem is, many still don't know what it is. Essentially, the...

Sun Sets Out to Replace Wires in Computer Chips with Laser Beams

From our front-page news: Computer chips can offer fast performance, we know this. But, the Pentagon believes that there should be a faster method to transmit information between chips than the typical wire. So, they've given Sun Microsystems a $44 million contract to explore the prospect of...

    The Multi-GPU Conundrum

From our front-page news: Picking out a graphics card today is more difficult than ever, given the sheer amount of choices available. It goes beyond the scope of simply choosing AMD or NVIDIA, since multi-GPU solutions change everything. In some regards, AMD's solutions outperform NVIDIA's, and...

Windows XP to Die Off at 'Some Point'

From our front-page news: Are you still in love with Windows XP? Many are, and probably for good reason. Despite its history of security flaws, XP has proven to be a rock-stable OS for those who know how to be careful and not download anything off of a P2P network and also update their PC...

Picking out a 30-inch monitor is truly a chore!

You are right.. the transition has been fast. Before the ASUS 20" at 1680x1050, I was still using 1280x1024 and was pleased with it. Now I'm pleased with 1920x1200 and wouldn't want to go lower. We get greedier as time goes on ;-)

    Techgage Benchmark Scoring Thread

Lots of memory manufacturers carry 4GB kits, but most of them lack in overall frequency or with the timings. Average 4GB kits are equipped with DDR3-1333 speeds with a CL of 8 or 9 and retail for around $350 - $400.

The review won't be published tonight due to further complications, but I managed to get results for Crysis specifically: 1280x1024 Medium - 46.119 Avg FPS 1680x1050 Medium - 38.767 Avg FPS 1920x1200 Medium - 31.190 Avg FPS 2560x1600 Medium - 18.617 Avg FPS Note that those results were from...

CES 2008: Intel Announces Sixteen 45nm Processors

Heh. I am not normally impatient, but if waiting on an important item, it is hard as heck to wait and keep it off the mind. Even though I still have Gateway's review sample of their monitor here, I am still impatient because I didn't receive mine yet. It's not like I'm even going without!

    Ubunu 7.10

I have no sweet clue what GNOME includes as a task manager, to be honest. Under KDE, there is a program called KSysGuard that works well, but as for a GNOME-equivalent, I have no idea. All of this information could be gathered through the command-line, though. To see what application is using...
