Picking out a 30-inch monitor is truly a chore!

Well, I don't necessarily need a 30-inch for personal things. At that size, it's more of a luxury than an actual need, since for most people, dual or triple monitors would better suit them and cost even less. I need a 30-inch primarily for the 2560x1600 resolution for our benchmarking. Even...

    Techgage Benchmark Scoring Thread

I can run the test on an ATI card tomorrow, as I'll hook back up my main machine for that purpose. I e-mailed the developer of the benchmark and also looked at the source code and couldn't see anything that would favor XP over Vista. I hope to hear back from the developer so we can figure this...

    What Memory for Gigabyte M57SLI-S4?

No nothing like that, it was just random problems where things should have worked, but they didn't. It's all been ironed out (I hope), so I plan to finish up benchmarking tonight and publishing the review later tonight. At this point, I don't know whether to blame Vista itself or the programs...

    Weird Video Issue????

First off, grats on the new rig! I'd usually be quick to blame the GPU, but the problem seems to lay with videos only, so I'd first thing it's a software problem. Did you test the videos in a different media-player, such as VLC, and see if the problem reproduces itself? It could be the codec...

    New Sonic game en route?!?!?!

Whew. *calms down* It appears that many different types of leaks have occurred over the past few days, claiming that "Sonic Unleashed" is en route. Normally, these kinds of rumors are easy to brush off, but there even a video leaked! I have no doubts that some die-hard fans would put a lot of...

    Techgage Benchmark Scoring Thread

Well, there is something wrong here somewhere. Gaming is most definitely not 50% faster under XP. I haven't done any recent benchmarks, but I should if I can find the time. But even without them, I know XP doesn't have such a massive advantage. I'd believe 5% - 10% increases, but nothing like...

    AGEIA Not Acquired, After All

I have no idea how I missed that the first time around, but that pretty much says it all. CUDA might not be huge right now, but if implemented right, game developers will hopefully begin to pick up on it.

Sony Offers "Fresh Start" to TZ2000 Notebook

From our front-page news: Last week, Engadget posted about an option that Sony added to their TZ2000 notebook - one that you don't see often. For $50, Sony would give you a "fresh start", with equates to a new laptop without all of the bloatware. Sadly, no option exists that would give you a...

Most intense Gamma-ray burst could be witnessed by naked eye!

The most powerful blast ever observed in the universe detonated on Wednesday. That day, a record four gamma-ray bursts were detected by NASA's Swift telescope. If you knew exactly when and where to look, you could have seen the bright burst with the naked eye, despite its enormous distance of...

    Techgage Benchmark Scoring Thread

Yes, it is due to Vista, but I am unsure of the exact reason there is a difference. I ran FRAPS at the same time on both OS' and the resulting scores from those were identical to what Lightsmark spit out. We'll keep the scores for now, but anyone who uses Windows XP will have an obvious advantage.

Picking out a 30-inch monitor is truly a chore!

I doubt that... for most people, I believe a multi-display setup would be better. I just happen to like having everything on a single screen, and that can easily be done with such a massive resolution. In order for me to enjoy a multi-display setup, two larger monitors would be required, such...

    AGEIA Not Acquired, After All

Purchasing an AGEIA PhysX card right now is just a bad move... even if it cost $20. It offers virtually nothing to the consumer except to be able to play a few tech demos that are passed off as games. If anything comes from this NVIDIA acquisition, it means that the PhysX PPU benefits will be...

Yorkfield Processors to Start Selling Next Week.

I don't think Intel will take out the ability to overclock... the potential to reach insane frequencies is one of the main reasons Intel's Core 2 Duo and family took off like they did. If the ability to push performance further was removed, it would only make AMD look a little bit better. After...

    Techgage Benchmark Scoring Thread

I'm becoming increasingly confident that the blame is on Vista. Bill, Merlin and I are all using Vista and receive ~300 point scores, while sbrehm is uses XP and scores 50% higher. If that's the case, then it's rather pointless to include it within our top ten. It's obvious that a single 8800...

    PCI x1 and X4

Thanks for the nice comments, and it's great to have more people around who understand what the forums are for and why we have them (it's definitely not for arguing!). I have to say also, it's extremely cool that we've had people from all over the world here lately... Australia, New Zealand...

    What Memory for Gigabyte M57SLI-S4?

Sadly it won't be up tonight (Sunday) due to complications that arose (Vista-specific). All issues are sorted with, but it was a waste of a good amount of hours so I decided to leave it. I'll post the review tomorrow night, promise :-)

    Cosmos S or Cosmos 1000

What about the Antec P182, or are you looking for something a little more gamer-esque? I have two P182's and love them. Clean and intuitive design and smooth looking as well.

    Engineers Develop Solid-state Fan

I am not sure what I think of this right now. Seems interesting, but there are many questions that don't seem to be answered, and the reliability question is a big one. I'm with Merlin... dust would be a major issue here, especially in a notebook computer.
