    Gigabyte EX58-UD5

I don't think so, because when at 133MHz, CPU-Z showed 135MHz, but during overclocking, CPU-Z reported what I should have expected (eg 190MHz when I set it there), so I don't believe that's the issue here. It's rare when 1 or 2MHz would make such a substantial difference, though, and I also...

Taking a Closer Look at Intel's Core i7-940

From our front-page news: When we posted our original look at Intel's Core i7 processors in early November, we managed to include performance data for all three of the launch chips in the same article. However, Intel wasn't able to provide us all three, so through a little bit of trickery, we...

School Teacher has Linux ALL Wrong

From our front-page news: Our school teachers are supposed to be, well, intelligent, right? Well, let's examine a situation that went down in some school. Some students were not only using the HeliOS Linux distribution in class, but they had the nerve (sarcasm) to demonstrate it to other...

Nintendo Stomps the Competition with November Sales

From our front-page news: Last month was huge for video game sales, and the data from NPD Group proves it. November is always a good month for sales of any kind, and the reason is obvious. Christmas and other common religious celebrations occur in December, and people attempt to get their...

    Fusion-io's Ultra-Fast PCI-E Solid-State Disk Tested

From our front-page news:This past October, I linked to a story about a brand-new SSD that didn't only raise the bar where performance was concerned, but dropped some jaws along the way. The company is Fusion-io, and their product is an SSD that bypasses the S-ATA bus entirely, and instead...

    Building an Affordable "Skulltrail" System

To be honest (and this is just -me-), I find RAM and GPU overclocking useless, so I'd not recommend wasting the time. I've overclocked a lot of GPUs throughout our many reviews here, and the differences are minor, and so I conclude that it's simply not worth the added heat or strain on the...

Intel Core i5 Loses QPI and Triple-Channel Memory Controller

Good catch on the HyperThreading... I missed that entirely. I agree though... it might very-well become one heck of a chip for the price. Although it's hard to talk too much about it until we actually have that kind of information, haha. Looks great though, for those who don't feel like they...

    IntelBurnTest vs. SP 2004

I'd assume not, but it would depend on where you live, and what you consider winter. The other night here, it was 7°F, and that, to me, is FREAKING cold. To be honest, I consider anything under 15°C (59°F) too cool, so if it's at least November and it's >10°C outside... it's winter ;-)

Putting Cash to Good Use: Toys for Tots Fundraiser

Not sure where this was a year ago, but I know it wasn't from them... nor would I expect to see it again from them, haha. It's SUCH an overwhelming project... you don't even realize until you're the one handling it. I found that out with our b-day contest this past March... so exhausting.

    Building an Affordable "Skulltrail" System

I think the first place to start would be 3.0GHz. Since it's a 2.5GHz chip to begin with, I can't see 3.0GHz being out of reach. I'd get it there, then check for temperatures (and also stress-test the hell out of it), and then move upward if you are feeling confident. That chip would likely be...

    ATI HD 4870 1GB vs. NVIDIA GTX 260/216 896MB: Follow-Up

Ahh, that makes a lot more sense.

    IntelBurnTest vs. SP 2004

That's a good point, but I'd imagine the chances of that playing a role is low. Hard to say though, really. Yup, I've noticed the same exact thing, haha.

Intel Core i5 Loses QPI and Triple-Channel Memory Controller

From our front-page news: Information regarding Intel's upcoming Lynnfield processor has been leaked, with a real processor sample benchmarked. From what we can see so far, Lynnfield is going to be quite different than Core i7, and from the CPU-Z screenshots, it looks like Lynnfield = Core i5...

Putting Cash to Good Use: Toys for Tots Fundraiser

From our front-page news:I don't dedicate much of our news space to contests or promotions outside of our website, but a recent fundraiser posted by our friends at TheTechLounge is too good to look over. They've teamed up with a countless amount of sponsors in order both raise funds for the Toys...

Hitler's Rant About the Nikon D3x

From our front-page news:When people take a movie and add their own custom subtitles in an attempt to make us laugh, it can be hit or miss. In the case of a new video parodying the movie "Downfall", it's definitely a hit. Downfall is a movie that follows Hitler on the final twelve days of his...

OpenCL 1.0 Specification Released, ATI & NVIDIA Adopt Support

From our front-page news: The open GPGPU computing language, known as OpenCL, hit a huge milestone today, making the release of the 1.0 specification. This is news we've been waiting for, for quite a while, because this might be just what we need to see general purpose GPU computing taken to the...

    NZXT Whisper Full-Tower

We placed an addendum in the review: NZXT contacted us to let us know that they've recognized that with high-end components, temperatures can get too high. To remedy this, if anyone would like to receive a front-fan assembly for free, you can contact the e-mail address as laid out on their...

    Cooling an OC'd E8400@ 4.0GHz

That is insane... 30W to power that beast! It might make a good prop for a drinking game though... "Who can hold onto the 220CFM fan the longest"... Yeah, it was kind of depressing to be honest. I bought two of these incredible fans, expecting to see a nice drop in temps (the ambient temp here...

    IntelBurnTest vs. SP 2004

Haha, I didn't even notice that, despite using the latest version for these tests. That was nice of him. Sadly, I haven't been able to test out the 1.9 on i7, due to benchmarking on the Core 2 machine for the past few days, but I should be going back to i7 in the coming days, so I'll give it a...

OCZ Releases Throttle eSATA-based Thumb Drive

Another thought... even if they did decide to use faster chips, it might not be possible within the same form-factor. I have a gut-feeling that they'd need as lightly better memory controller, although it's really hard to say. I know that they won't push a product out if it winds up to big...
