As a parent, I'd be more concerned with what they are doing on the internet... not how long they use it.

Yorkfield Processors to Start Selling Next Week.

Where did you find a QX9650 for $800? I am going to assume it was used, since I can't find that price anywhere else. Good buy though... at that price it costs only a smidgen more than a Q9550. Thanks for this news sbrehm, I'll include a mention in tomorrows news.

    Phenom

I hate to sound like a broken record here, but I have to agree with sbrehm. There is no true reason to go with AMD right now, as sad as it is. It's been proven (not by us) that Phenom lacks in overall performance in almost every test when compared to Intel's offering. Then taking overclocking...

    Benchmarking High Scores

Editing the scores and the like, whenever someone submits a new score. I might submit a score for both the Skulltrail and the main machine I'm using for Linux when I can find the time though.

    Memory Question

Like sbrehm said, the board will support basically any DDR2 you throw in there... speed doesn't matter that much. It's just that those speeds are what the board specifically has profiles for in the BIOS. As long as it's between DDR2-533 and DDR2-1200, it will work.

Hmm, that's retarded. Mine worked fine for months and months, but recently, sometimes the tracking will go all haywire. Maybe mines going to suffer the same fate as yours.

    Ubunu 7.10

So... did you or did you not get into the desktop environment? The first screenshot leads me to believe you did. If you did, you could just install and worry about the graphics afterwards. If could also be a problem with the monitor as well. If you want to see if your hardware is compatible...

    Ubunu 7.10

(Didn't realize sbrehm was making a response. Try his solution, it's far easier ;-)) If the installer halts entirely, it might be somewhat of a problem. But, chances are it doesn't, so you can still access a secondary terminal to manually fix the problem. If you are interested in fixing it...

    Ubunu 7.10

You didn't see the desktop at all? That version of Ubuntu might not have the appropriate drivers for NVIDIA 8-series cards. It's kind of difficult for me to help here since I am not familiar with how Ubuntu handles things, nor do I have a copy here. If you used the VESA drivers, things...

    D-Link DNS-323 NAS

This kind of setup would almost always have to be tested first outside of the network, since there will rarely be any problems inside the network. Did you use a service like DynDNS to point directly to the DNS-323? If so, then that URL should always point directly to the box, making it...

So, Just How Bad Is PC Game Piracy?

From our front-page news: We posted the other day regarding some assumptions that PC game piracy could be as high as 85%, but that is one number that will be disputed now, and for some time to come.
