Mythbusters Weren't Allowed to Air RFID Segment

Heh, the plot thickens: (from our front-page news) Yesterday, I posted about Adam Savage and his talk given at the The Last HOPE conference back in July, where he talked about the Mythbusters show's inability to broadcast a segment on RFID... and well, it seems there are a few inaccuracies...

Sandra 2009 Brings GPGPU Benchmarking to our Toolbox

Forgot to post in here. I tried to run the benchmark on an ATI card... but couldn't. The options were faded out, and I'm unsure why. I am e-mailing SiSoftware to find out the reason, and hopefully will be able to get all those results very shortly.

Mythbusters Weren't Allowed to Air RFID Segment

From our front-page news: One video that seems to be spreading around the web like wildfire is of Adam Savage, who in a talk tells all about the Mythbusters' inability to show their findings with RFID's hackable on the show. The talk happened at the Hackers On Planet Earth conference that...

AMD Doesn't Plan on Letting NVIDIA Get Back Up

From our front-page news: Where GPUs are concerned, times are interesting. Over the course of the past two years, NVIDIA dominated the low-end, mid-range and high-end markets, and the outlook for AMD looked grim. But lo and behold, big red had something up their sleeve and what they launched...

Is Vista Driving People Towards Linux?

From our front-page news: Alright, I admit that I'm somewhat of a Linux fan, given it's my primary OS, but I'm not about to make assumptions that Windows Vista is so bad, that it's driving people towards it. Could I be wrong? Well, according to an author at IT Wire, it's a definite possibility...

Google's Chrome - Browser Done Right?

From our front-page news: On Monday, we linked to news of a Google browser that would possibly be launched sometime in the near future. Well, 'possibly' is the wrong word to use, because it was released the very next day. If only all rumors solidified so fast! I admit, even while making that...

NVIDIA to Enable SLI on Select X58-based Motherboards

I gotcha... so regardless of what card is put in there, it will just downgrade to the operating speeds? Does that logic work with all cards, or just GPUs? I'm assuming that the 'important' pins are the first ones in line then... interesting. I wasn't really aware of that... thanks for pointing...

What DirectX 11 Will Bring to the Table

Haha, that made me laugh out loud... good stuff. If DX11 screenshots actually existed, I would have posted one!

Five Tools to Make a Windows Reinstallation a Snap

The idea is that you need to reinstall Windows because it's just become clogged. That's not normally due to the drivers, but other things. I agree that installing completely fresh drivers would be the way to go, but people really just are that lazy.

Google to Release Their Own Web Browser?

    Intel's Budget Q8200 Quad-Core Popping Up

Good point, I didn't even notice that. Your answer is $93. Yeah, it's a damn sweet CPU. It's really hard to go wrong with any of Intel's offerings lately.

Sandra 2009 Brings GPGPU Benchmarking to our Toolbox

I can get that information tomorrow. Have the Skulltrail hooked up right now, and the PCI-E 1.1 might be a bit limiting in terms of real bandwidth. Ideally, I'd like to take a deeper look and figure out just how useless these results would be to include in our results. I have to wonder why we...

Is there a hard drive brand you prefer over another?

That's quite the take on WD... though I've heard similar experiences in the past. I agree on the reasons for liking Seagate also... my thoughts are right along the same lines. I've had great luck, so I haven't felt the need to switch. That goes without saying... the worst of it is they don't...

Atom Demand High, Intel Unable to Keep Up

Are you saying 2,500 chips per wafer is not possible? I'm confused. That number came from the article I linked to. I could see it being possible on such a large wafer... I think an equivelent sized wafer can produce 500 Quad-Cores, but my estimates may be way off.

OCZ Releases 16GB 'P45 Special' Memory Kit

MetaRAM was also showing off 16GB modules here... I almost drooled right onto the open machine. I do know that higher-density RAM exists, but it's going to be weird pushing it into a 3x configuration, since it will have to be in multiples of 2GB and higher to get anywhere. I don't think we'll...

    Computer starting over by itself

That would have nothing to do with the amount of free hard drive space, but if it sporadically reboots for no reason, it's probably a hardware issue. I'd download MemTest and test the RAM, and also make sure that your GPU and CPU temperatures are keeping within reason, using CoreTemp and GPU-Z...

    Cuil Taking Down Some Websites?

Cuil hasn't been so 'kind' to us. I don't see it in our logs that they even touched our server at all, at least they are nowhere near the top ten, as far as search spiders are concerned.

Chrome - Google's Attempt at the 'Ultimate Browser'

Sure, the Internet has no shortage of web browsers, but it's not often that someone comes along and tries something different, and believe it or not, it's Google this time around. We're taking a look at the first beta release of their Chrome browser, which happens to be ultra-fast, stable...
