Canon Pixima MP 510, Windows 7

My Brother printed (not sure the model) does the exact same thing. You can even take the freaking cartridge out and see ink sploshing around, but no go. To make it worse, if one color is empty, none of the other colors will work, even if the image doesn't require it (like printing out text, and...

Recording Industry Planning New Digital Format, "CMX"

Well, that doesn't solve the problem that the recording industry is tackling. The goal here is to bundle more with the songs, like the liner notes, album art, and other bonuses that some artists include (such as video content or a game of some sort). The zipped idea is a good one though, because...

Micron and Intel Introduce 3-bit-per-cell NAND Technology

From our front-page news: When Solid-State Disks were first introduced to consumers, many people didn't quite know the differences between the various flash chips, and their technologies. Since then, though, information has been abundant, and it's probably rare that anyone interested in an SSD...

Recording Industry Planning New Digital Format, "CMX"

From our front-page news: MP3? FLAC? M4A? Apparently, such formats aren't good enough for a few large players in the recording industry, such as Sony, Warner and Universal, as the entire conglomerate is planning on releasing a brand-new format, tentatively called, "CMX". This format's main goal...

Zune HD's Pricing Revealed, Launching in a Month

From our front-page news: It's been a few months since Microsoft made the Zune HD official, and we're inching ever-closer to the launch date. Over the course of the past few days, both Best Buy and Amazon.com leaked the pricing (the latter is allowing pre-orders). For those who have been holding...

Is Firefox Becoming More Crash-Prone with Each Release?

Did Firefox crash on you regularly before you installed Cooliris? If not, then it could be the plugin to blame, but it's hard to say. It's interesting though, because so far, I haven't talked to anyone using Windows who's complained about these random crashes... so far it's either been Mac OS X...

    Incredible lightning...

    I have never seen a lightning storm so powerful before, in person or on TV: <object height="385" width="640"> <embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/gCZlApOIifU&hl=en&fs=1&color1=0xe1600f&color2=0xfebd01&hd=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"...

Intel Issues Firmware Update for X-25M G2 SSDs

From our front-page news: When Intel released their second-generation SSD's last month, we saw drives with chips based on a 34nm process, faster overall speeds, and even lower latencies. But, sadly for Intel, a show-stopper issue surfaced only a few days later. The issue affects only those who...

Is Firefox Becoming More Crash-Prone with Each Release?

Do either of you run extensions with your Firefox? If so, which ones? I'm just curious if this is more of an alternative OS issue than one with Firefox itself. I don't use Windows, so I'm not entirely sure of the stability there, but in the TechCrunch article, he was running Mac OS X, and had...

    advise new x58 motherboard

That's true. It's because Windows doesn't respond much different on a given overclock, because deep-down, it's more of a storage performance limitation (example here). Where overclocks do become appreciated is with heavy multi-tasking, or when running an encode scenario that takes tens of...

    ASRock, Asus and Nvidia.

That's the thing... it is adequate for this purpose. If you were planning on getting all of your work done on it, then things would change. I'd still be willing to bet the CPU would become a bottleneck long before the hard drive, though. The Atom processor just won't compare to even a low-end...

Canon Pixima MP 510, Windows 7

Glad you got the issue figured out! It's nice that Canon has stated that an official driver is en route though. That seems like pretty good support, right there. It sure wouldn't hurt to see companies like Logitech take after them...

    ASUS VW266H 25.5" LCD Monitor

That kind of reminds me of the Gateway XHD3000 here I watch movies with. It's default Theatre profile isn't that good, mainly because it leaves an option called "Black Level" turned off. Turning it on manually makes a major difference (black becomes black, not backlit black).

Microsoft Releases "Windows XP Mode" Release Candidate

You know... something like this might make for a good article. There are no doubt lots of people out there who don't know the first thing about dual-booting, so perhaps a robust article explaining how it works, and various scenarios and their solutions, would be a good idea. Thoughts? EasyBCD...

Is Firefox Becoming More Crash-Prone with Each Release?

From our front-page news: Whenever a new version of your favorite software gets released, there's usually good reason to get a little excited. After all, minor version upgrades usually mean important bug fixes, and major upgrades are a combination of that and feature updates. Firefox 3.5 was no...

Chkdsk Bug in Windows 7 Could Cause BSOD?

I'm curious as to how out-of-date these drivers would have had to have been. We're dealing with Windows 7, after all... they would have been semi-recent. Either way, I'd love to try to re-produce this, but I don't have the RTM at the moment. I'm waiting for Microsoft to get back to me on it...

Apple's App Store Approval Process Gone Too Far?

I have to wonder if people are going to come to their senses and stop supporting such a company until it gets its act together. I find it utterly ridiculous that fantastic apps get denied for absolutely no reasonable reason, when in the end, it hurts the consumer more than anyone else. Take that...

Microsoft Releases "Windows XP Mode" Release Candidate

Haha... someone is in bad need of an upgrade! That's a perfect example though. As for the boot-loader, sometimes all you need to do after installing XP is to boot up with the Vista/7 DVD and click "Repair your computer" rather than the install button. That will search the drive for issues, and...

    advise new x58 motherboard

I don't have experience with the X58 SLI LE, but I do know it's supposed to overclock a lot better than the non-LE board I had, so 3.0GHz - 3.2GHz will not be a problem whatsoever. Core i7 runs hot though, so just make sure you build your PC for optimum cooling (good airflow scheme and CPU...
