Please help me choose 5.1 speakers

I'd throw my vote in for Logitech, they know how to make good speakers. Techgage has actually reviewed the X-540's here.

    More Quad-core, Tri-core Phenoms Roadmapped

Without an L3 cache on those 45nm Propus chips they can probably afford to make them very cheap. etailers can try to gouge all they want, but if they don't sell any of them they will quickly change their tune...

Yorkfield Processors to Start Selling Next Week.

Overclocking not supported on Nehalem? Fat chance of that, just going to see a veritable avalanche of user posts across every forum known to mankind asking how to overclock the QPI link probably. :D Not to mention QX chips will still have an unlocked multiplier...

My Antec 900 Internal water cooling project

Looks like a great job to me, including the wiring. I eventually gave up trying to organize mine... for a much smaller case to my P180 that's a pretty tidy WC setup. Any room for a bigger rad there, or no?

    What Memory for Gigabyte M57SLI-S4?

I was going to say they ain't no ski resorts in Texas... but then I remembered several companies built their own indoor ski mountains somewhere around the DFW area... ;)

Picking out a 30-inch monitor is truly a chore!

It did have a premium on it, but not horribly so so it seemed like a good upgrade. It was $50 more above the middle option, which was around $50 above the base screen. The screen is the most important part of the computer, after all. :) At the time they had three different LCD screens, 17"...

    Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0GHz - Wolfdale Arrives

Yeah, it is hard to say no when you know those chips will take you to the moon. To quote a commercial, "Overclocking is a nicotine addiction." :D

    PCI x1 and X4

There are some networking and sound cards that support x1... More than a few RAID cards use x1, x4, and x8 depending on the scale of the array. There are PCIe x1 graphics cards out now as well, can even find a few at Newegg although they change branding regularly.

Relayer beat me to it! I was going to say it reminded me of a cross between Shredder/Cylon or maybe Transformers/Cylon...

Can't Find an E8400? Pick the Xeon E3110 Instead!

Do you fold regularly? My QC is a giant folding box, made my old folding farm obsolete by itself, so I don't even run them now to keep the energy bill down. Even overclocking the thing to 3.2GHz made it jump another 600PPD, its just silly. (It makes me giddy to contemplate a 4GHz QC Nehalem...

Intel Details Nehalem, Dunnington, Tukwila & Larrabee

Well, the flipside is we are talking about desktop use. Servers can easily take all the cores you can throw at them... I've thought about it, and really it hasn't even been two years since Quads were introduced to the desktop. Quad users just make such a small percentage of users companies...

    Are SSDs Causing Notebook Defects?

Thankfully! Some major research firm was estimating a 40-50% reduction in flash drive pricing year over year for the next 4-5 years... won't to be long before they become a standard part of everyone's system at that rate.

    PS3 Versus Xbox 360

Super Mario 64 was amazing when it came out... 3D world, seemed like ya could spend forever messing with it. I really really liked Goldeneye and Perfect Dark though... especially the multiplayer modes.

Can't Find an E8400? Pick the Xeon E3110 Instead!

Bunch of people have over in the XS forums, back when NCIX US had better supply of the Q6600 G0s so quite a few tried them. From what I recall results were pretty good regarding customer support. Actually, now I remember what it was... NCIX has some guy that is actually a regular member of...

Wine is close to turning 15!

Might try http://www.wine-doors.org/wordpress/ PCMech made LinuxMint seem like a great distro, they did half a dozen articles on it, almost got me interested enough to try it. ;) Anyway it uses Wine-Doors, and they were able to play Half Life 2 on the first go with it.

Picking out a 30-inch monitor is truly a chore!

Hm, well thanks for the info. :) My Dell laptop is 17" and offers 1920x1200... and it was from 2005. Even blown up to 24" I have to shove my face in the screen to make out pixels at that resolution! So I am not that sure about cramming higher resolutions into the same real estate! Was hoping...
