    Folding Machine

Those blackplates are usually made out of mm thick chrome, I'd hate to imagine trying to cut one! It might be possible to unscrew the backplate, its an option on many cards. Hmm, apparently the 4750 and 4770 offer the same number of shaders as the 4830. However both cards are clocked higher...

Intel Issues X25-M Firmware Update, Upgrades Algorithms

Ahh, this answers my question. I was wondering why no one anywhere seemed to be mentioning that all data on a drive would be lost, but I see Intel fixed that issue. Now if other SSD manufacturers could just do the same... Ahh, good info to know. Wow, I wondered if there was a way to...

    NVIDIA GPU core keychain

These are only 8400GS cores... you can buy a working 8400GS graphics card for the price of two keychains. ;) Now, if they made one of these with a GTX 280 core inside, I would be more interested... should be something like double the size if not more.

    Should we consider RAM content?

If I plan to overclock my Core i7 920 beyond 4,000MHz, then my RAM would be forced to run beyond 1600MHz... therefore, making sure my RAM can do so at 1.65v was an important consideration. Knowing my OCZ Platinum should reach 1800MHz at CAS 8 means I will have all the headroom I need for...

Apple's $79 iPod shuffle Costs $21.77 to Produce

Apple earned an approximate 50% gross margin on their first generation iPhones, not counting the almost $20 per month they now get for every single AT&T 2 year subscription plan iPhone users must buy. That Apple can get away with prices like this still amazes me... but if people want to throw...

    $150 for unlimited bandwidth?!

This is a case of TWC either being grossly ignorant, grossly greedy, or some combination of the two. It doesn't help their COO doesn't know the difference between "MB" and "Mbps" when he stated it would be "10MB/1MB" service in his press releases and descriptions of their new tier packages. ;)...

    Folding Machine

All the cases I listed were cheaper than the ABS Canyon and had 8 or more slots. The cheapest cases are the Xaser IV and ArmorPLus, both of which cost $194, which while a bit on the high side is at least far more palatable than $600! I have not looked at open air test benches, but the Antec...

    Should we consider RAM content?

Rob, you are kind of missing my point! I agree, there's no real purpose for buying 1800MHz, 2000Mhz, or 2133MHz memory. So if the average Joe is smart he will buy a 1333MHz or 1600MHz kit (because 1600MHz RAM is actually cheaper). The question then becomes for average Joe, what 1600MHz kit holds...

    Folding Machine

Ah, I understand now. You want to run a dual-slot card in the last PCIe slot... so you need 8 expansion slots. You might start looking for EATX (Extended) motherboard compatible cases. I looked over Newegg (There is no search option for expansion slots) and here's a shortlist...

Are Macs Really More Expensive than PCs?

Well, just look at the minutes per watt hour results: here I don't think it can get more definitive than that? I guess I gotta give credit where credit is due, Apple did a nice job with those unibody laptops with their excellent battery life. Still, for the price difference anyone can...

    Folding Machine

The MSI K9A2 works in a standard board, it only has 7 slots. If you used dual-slot GPUs you wouldn't have room for any add in cards either. The 4830 is a 2-slot card. Any standard case would fit four dual-slot GPUs in the K9A2's setup.

    Should we consider RAM content?

Memory reviews still have some usefulness... almost any average enthusiast will want to know how much headroom various memory kits offer. I'm not talking about 2,000Mhz kits, but average 1333Mhz and 1600MHz kits nobody wants to push beyond 1.65v Especially 1333MHz, since some can hit 1600...

Intel Core i7 - Choosing the Best Memory Kit

To be honest I don't think anything over 6GB is needed... most of the RAM usage in Windows 7 is from windows caching your most frequently used programs in memory. The more ram you have available the more programs and data Windows 7 (And also Vista) will cache. Any triple channel kit will let...

Mac OSX can't handle the speed of high-end SSDs?

I will admit before this I thought any drive could be plugged into a Mac. If I am wrong then someone please correct me... but its interesting to see there is some usefulness to having Mac certified hardware. If their Vertex was able to saturate the software stack then I'd hate to see what a...

Mac OSX can't handle the speed of high-end SSDs?

Ran into this one, thought it was amusing so here it is: Source OCZ had to slow down its SSDs because Mac OSX can't handle the speed

    Tip: Don't review leaked movies...

I'm not sure if this is correct but I heard the pirated version wasn't even the final release. I've seen leaked movies without the final special effects or special audio effects added in so I know it would be normal if this was the case. Pirated movies also tend to have poor graphics and...

Gaming PC - on a Budget!

Try this GPU. Its identical except $10 cheaper and comes with CoD WaW too. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130434 I don't know anything about Apex brand units, for that price I'd recommend a well-respected brand. Either OCZ GameXstream 600W $70 AMIR...

    AMD disses Nehalem

Only thing I see is AMD just proved they'll say anything as much as the next guy. They said themself it offers an increase in performance, so what is the problem with it? If AMD wants to go down that road, it might help if they could first win any of the benchmarks where Nehalem's...

Acer Announces First ION-based System, AspireRevo

After seeing some of Anand's latest results on HD playback... only dual-core Atoms survived that test. Some of the most recent 1080P movies use a higher bit-rate that even stuttered on a dual-core Atom. Of course Anand pulled the article because NVIDIA claimed they couldn't reproduce his...

Even With Windows 7, Consumers Can Downgrade to XP

There's also the issue of MS ending support for XP... they will still provide security updates for a few years after that, but why would you want an OS that won't see anything except security patches? DX10 hasn't taken off, but DX11 is also right around the corner. XP isn't and never will be...
