What to do, what to do,what to do.....Comp Upgrade

What bundle is this you are thinking of? Keep in mind, Core i7 would require an X58 motherboard and DDR3 memory... you'd be building an entirely new computer in order to upgrade to it. You'll probably have to buy a new mounting kit just to use your Zalman 9700 cooler as well.

    GO OC 09 Coverage

Best of luck, Rob! Wish I was there :) The guys over at Madshrimps won their regional semi-final and some nice prizes to boot. Gigabyte is really putting it on with this event!

    Cheep 9800 GT

Here's one with a better cooler for the same price :D Link It's likely because of the HD 4770... performs within 3% of the 4850 in so many of the tests but will be priced below $100... The 9800GT will probably get even cheaper once those 4770's arrive.

    Corsair HX620W Power Supply

Your question is mostly a matter of preference. It's like audiophiles... they cannot stand listening to 256kps mp3s or even 320kbps mp3s in some cases, but for most people 320kbps is sufficient. In the case of power supplies, the same is true. It is BEST to have no breaks in the cable that...

    Nikon Announces 12.3MP D5000 D-SLR, Includes Vari-Angle LCD

Looks like the Canon T1i has better specs inside as well: Link Talk about a huge screen resolution upgrade too. If only it had tilt & swivel ability like the NIkon's D5000 it'd be damn near perfect. Will have to wait for official reviews before we find out what size the image sensors are...

    $150 for unlimited bandwidth?!

Time Warner was going to charge $150 a month for an unlimited plan. They were also going to introduce a $100 a month teir with slightly higher speeds, but mostly a larger cap. The good news is TWC got to greedy and overreached far enough they got the attention of two Senators. They decided to...

    Gigabyte EX58-UD5

Ah-hah! I was starting to go nuts trying to figure out what this thing was as I didn't see it listed anywhere, all I knew is it said SLI on the wrapper. Interesting little addition to the usual accessories. Did I mention this board is heavy?? It makes my P35-DQ6 with it's copper mountain of a...

    Who's Microsoft's Biggest Competition?

Didn't want to make a new thread, so this one seems appropriate to use. This is an intriguing article to consider from Ars Technica: Evidence suggests first zombie Mac botnet is active You know Microsoft has competition when they aren't the only OS hosting active and growing zombie botnets :D

    AMD's next-gen Bulldozer - Thoughts?

Any idea what they mean by 128bit crunching monster? Unless I misunderstand Barcelona already is 128bit and so was Core 2. Um, so in other words AMD is copying Intel's Core 2 Duo design. Core 2 is 64+64 already and offers full "128bit" vector support. Link Sandy Bridge will be something...

GO OC's North American Final to be Held Next Weekend

It had quite a few issues, but I kinda wish now that Gigabyte would do that online overclocking contest again... it was fun winning stuff with that and pushing my system to the wall. Nothing like a bit of chilled watercooling to get the computer sweating... :) Interesting looking motherboard...

Hey buddy, can I borrow a few bucks?

The only SSDs that have negated the issue are Intel's drives. The only others that have minimized the problem to an extent it really doesn't become noticeable would be OCZ's Vertex drives. I wouldn't suggest any other drive except one of these. You can buy a 1.8 or 2.5 inch Intel SSD for much...

Taking a Trip Through 31 Years of CPUs

Good read, and some good info to know about the clone wars... Might explain a little why Intel is so touchy about their licenses these days, too. (And why Intel decided to cease outsourcing CPUs completely and began their entire Fabbing strategy... with the notable exception of Atom) This...

    $150 for unlimited bandwidth?!

A little competition is exactly what the industry needs, in my opinion. TWC wouldn't be so eager to milk their cash cow if there was another farmer ready to jump in and sell their service for less, or with more features and less restrictions. There are a few other DSL options I am...

    Want to feel small?

Stuff like this is just incredible. It also should make someone stop and think... there might be some major issues on Earth, but in the scope of things they should really be insignificant, or shouldn't be issues at all. There's an entire universe out there yet most people still act like the...

    Nikon Announces 12.3MP D5000 D-SLR, Includes Vari-Angle LCD

Ahh, it was the Rebel T1i I was thinking about that does 720P and 1080P. I wonder how this one stacks up in comparison... There's some footage of the Rebel T1i in 720P and 1080P modes here: Link I've been wanting an digital SLR for several years, and as Rob says it has just been incredible...

Apple's $79 iPod shuffle Costs $21.77 to Produce

The iPhone is definitely maturing, it helps Apple finally addressed many of the little things like copy and pasting. Although there are still some others like number of open applications and switching between them from what I hear. I think only one app can be run at a time? I just now looked...

    Should we consider RAM content?

Have a look see at the table here: Link From my understanding (feel free to correct me if I am wrong) there are only three memory ratios to select. 6, 8, and 10. If I buy a Core i7 920, overclock it to 4,000Mhz, I can run my memory at 1200 or 1600... that's going to be a ~5% performance hit...

Intel Issues X25-M Firmware Update, Upgrades Algorithms

I don't know the history of Intel's X25-M firmware but PCP mentioned the exact firmware version that Intel released that fixed it so the data no longer was lost during firmware upgrades. Before this firmware version they also would lose all data during a firmware update. I checked to make...

    $150 for unlimited bandwidth?!

None, they have nothing. TWC will implement a system to where after the bandwidth caps begin they will have a site users can navigate to to monitor their usage... but until then they cannot tell me what my usage history has been. Their entire company is unable to answer the question and fobs me...
