    Me PC!!

You have more storage in that system now than most companies used to have 10 years ago. You'll noticed an immediate difference, Doomsday. Enjoy!

Fixing old PCs is not fun...

Rob knows all about my mad hate for fixing old PCs. I think I whined about it like an old lady for about a week when I was asked to fix an old Dell.

why he needs more power ???

It all comes down to a kid with more money than common sense. I know he's your friend and I mean no disrespect but it's best if he leaves it to people who have a basic grasp on hardware. The fact that this guy wants four video cards proves that he has no business choosing components. The...

Note Book with Longest Battery Backup

Aww, and here I was hoping to read a dirty joke first thing in the morning. The longest what? Anyway, solid state drives will be a key component too (I'm surprised you didn't mention that, Robert :p). Laptops are hitting a major sweet spot right now in price/performance/thermal...

Intel Z68 SSD Disk Caching Showdown

I plan to hopefully do that in the near future if time allows but I have three cases sitting beside me with more on the way and five CPU coolers to beat up on. They have to take priority but if I have time to revisit this, I surely will. The main problem now is that the Z68 board is with Rob...

Intel Z68 SSD Disk Caching Showdown

The graph that I posted earlier is from the initial look at disk caching. It shows the FPS when using only the hard drive and then again with both acceleration modes enabled using the Intel 311 SSD. Based on these results, there should be -no- difference in the numbers using the Kingston drive...

    PC Gaming isn't dead....again.

I think you'll see more than a few people strongly reconsider PC gaming when they see what Battlefield 3 looks and plays like. Crazy graphics, full sized maps and 64-player multi-player mode... Yes, I'm on a BF3 soap box but it's nice to see a developer catering to our group for a change...

A Quick Look at Sabayon 6

Rob's last question as I left chat last night: So Optix, feel like installing Linux? My reaction: BWAHAHAHAHA! You're funny. Looks like you're still a funny guy. I'll stick my clunky, slow, full of holes Windows.

Team Fortress 2 Releases The 'Uber' Update; Becomes Free to Play

It's an acquired taste from what I hear. Maybe I'll grab it and see what the hubbub was about.

Intel Z68 SSD Disk Caching Showdown

I would think so as well but at least one question was answered - what drive will work best. It all depends on the work being done. Lots of small files = Intel/Larger files = Kingston. GIGABYTE has launched a series of boards with Intel's 20GB 311 SSD built into it so disk caching comes all...

Intel Z68 SSD Disk Caching Showdown

Exactly. I'm ready to chalk this up to being a young technology with some kinks to work out because I just don't have any explanation for some of the results.

Intel Z68 SSD Disk Caching Showdown

Your guess is as good as mine, especially since the initial RST testing showed... There should be no difference between the frame rates whether the HDD is accelerated or not so switching SSDs shouldn't make even the slightest difference. During testing there were several results that simply...

    Tweaking Windows 7

I don't see any reason to tweak Windows unless someone has a slow system and needs to free up additional resources, is having a legitimate problem related to a service that they do not use or simply wants to be cooler than Microsoft and stick it to them by telling them what services they want...

    Blame Canada for this world!

My son's birth certificate is made from the same thing. There's clear portions and the stuff just feels funny, almost brittle. It's much fancier than my crappy laminated card stock birth certificate. I'm just wondering how heat from a dryer would affect this new material.
