    Microsoft Announces Branded 'Surface' Tablets

Just one more reason why the patent system is in need of a major overhaul.

    Microsoft Announces Branded 'Surface' Tablets

Wouldn't be easy for iOS to rack up most of the profits since they sell the OS on their devices versus Android being given away free?

    ASUS smears GIGABYTE?

Personally, from past experience working as a PC tech, I'll never use a Gigabyte board. The company I worked for built 20 PC's for a school, all using Gigabyte mobos and within 2 years over half had died. That's not a very heartening statistic. Every ASUS board I've used has survived longer than...

Who's seen the new Cosmos II case?

Good, so, I gotta ask are the measurements taken from the bars or from the case itself? 13" wide? Damn.

Who's seen the new Cosmos II case?

That's a big beastly bastard is it not? Seriously, does a computer case need it's own area code? I think it has it's own gravitational field...

Should Cheap Android Phones be Avoided?

I've got a Huawei Ascend M860 which is about as cheap as you can get ($70 new a year ago) and while it's better than an abacus glued to a cup with a string, it's not much better. Spend a bit more money and buy a used Android based phone. There are literally tons out there in the secondary...

    Video Issues

Yes, but he said it wouldn't post after trying the vid card and after going back to the onboard. It posted after hooking the HDMI cable up. To me that sounds like a poorly seated device. It came unseated enough to cause it not to post when he hooked up the DVI to VGA, stayed that way when he...

    Video Issues

I think the card was not seated properly. When you hooked up the DVI to VGA adapter it jiggled loose, when you hooked up the cable to the onboard the card was still loose and when you put the HDMI cable to it it reseated enough to work. My advice is to unplug the PC, pull the video card...

Pinot noir goes best with face-eating

I prefer beer. I'm having the damnedest time finding Moosehead here. Did the brewery burn down or something?

Is a 2880x1800 Resolution Worth Getting Excited Over?

I've never read anything to the contrary. I have heard of gamers that won't run Aero because it eats Vram. They run the basic UI in windows classic mode so it looks like 9X.

Linus Has Some Choice Words for NVIDIA

Yeah, it's called Linux because it's based on the kernel he designed and named as such. The actual OS'es are the distros that bundle the UI and GUI around the kernel.

Linus Has Some Choice Words for NVIDIA

It was a joke, a play on words based on your reason as to why it wasn't widely adopted. I know he's the designer of the kernel.

US Reclaims Top Supercomputer Spot with 'Sequoia'

Xeon or Itanium. The rest would be produced overseas. As far as I'm aware there are no motherboards produced here or memory either. Strike that, it uses IBM chips.

Linus Has Some Choice Words for NVIDIA

FWIW there is a project for Optimus that says they have a ready for primetime Linux driver. And yeah, I don't want an OS designed by a jackhole.

Linus Has Some Choice Words for NVIDIA

What's the saturation of Linux on PC's in the OS market? Under 2%? Out of that what's the percentage of laptops versus desktops? 50/50? 60/40? 40/60? IMO I think NV already goes above and beyond by catering to users running such a niche OS. Dude sounds like a jack wagon.

    George Fisher on illegal downloading

For one, I wouldn't D/L a CC album because I have no reason to listen to them, same reason I would not buy one of their albums. Secondly, I see the whole D/L thing as a "try before you buy" type of deal. Face it, $10 to $20 isn't a lot but it's still more than you'd be willing to flush down...
