HP Pavilion G6 with linux advise (remove w7 bad idea?)

Dell doesn't care if you replace components, just that any components not replaced with authorized Dell labeled parts (that their service techs mailed you) won't be covered by the machine's warranty. It can pose an issue if you need to warranty the entire laptop as they will want the original...

Humble Bundle 3 Adds Bonus Games; Adds HB2 Special

Wow, they just keep adding games... I finally pulled the trigger, seemed like a few too many possible fun games were in the lot to pass up. Especially Steel Storm... I really like the Steam integration too, two codes automatically add all the games from both HB2 and HB3 to your Steam...

    Borderlands 2 Announced

I can't wait, Borderlands 2 is definitely on my to-buy list unless I hear otherwise. I gotta agree with all the points you make, Rob. Usually I'd pick one small portion out that I'd disagree with, but this time I can agree with your entire post. :D The character commentary always got me to...

    Pick Me A Mobo!

You can see the problem in that exact photo... there is a line of four capacitors running parallel to the metal socket plate, located between it and the memory plate. These four caps are a problem as some blackplates can't seat with them there. When Rob and I were putting together the SSD...

    Counter-Strike: Global Offensive announced!

Naw, no way in hell I'm going back to CS. 12 year old graphics and game mechanics is still 12 years old... and I bet anything it won't do a thing to deter the rampant hacking CS always had. Don't get me wrong, Half Life is 13 years old and I'd play that anytime, it had character and it had...

    British riots

Shut down twitter eh? There was an Ars Technica article that pointed out a large majority of the rioters have turned to using BBM, the blackberry messaging network to organize the riots, raids, and looting. Since it is encrypted and sent phone to phone, and Blackberry's are becoming rather cheap...

    AMD Begins Producing DDR3 Memory

I think it's ridiculous, really. Who makes the chips? Last time I checked some Taiwanese firms were producing DRAM chips and selling them at prices below the cost of manufacture. The memory market is tight and that is why OCZ was so quick to accelerate its plans to get out of the business...

GameFly to Launch Digital Game Distribution Service Later this Year

Yeah, great way to save some money if the game isn't worth playing more than once... will be interesting to see where it goes from here.

    Pick Me A Mobo!

ASUS is as good as any... has UEFI and that's about as good as it gets for Z68 far as I'm aware. As long as ya don't run into blackplate issues I guess. ;) (P8P67 has two caps on the back of the board that shouldn't be there, they block some style blackplates)

What TKC does when we can't fill a server

Aww, you guys didn't try to shoot down any of those choppers with a flying tank?? :D Great video... gotta love those game physics, actually makes Hollywood movie special effects look realistic! Every single game has them...

USB 3.0 Could Support 100W Devices In Near-Future

Well, USB 2.0 capped at 500ma, while USB 3.0 raised that to 900ma. I still remember a plethora of devices that would plug into multiple USB ports just to draw enough power to operate... disk drives are the easiest example. There is a reason external drives don't power off the USB port, although...

How Long Should a Thumb Drive Last?

I'm not entirely sure... I know multiple tables are required for any storage formatting to function, like that FAT uses both a directory entry table and a file allocation table, and these must reference each other for everything to work right. NTFS uses a master file table that appears to be...

    SSD advice

Hey Kayden. Sorry to hear about your HDD, but at least you got plenty of warning it seems. Not everyone is that lucky! The OCZ Vertex 3 is a hard one to argue against. I try not to be brand specific unless I feel it is warranted, but in this case the Vertex 3 is the cheapest SF-2281 SSD...

Is the PC Era Coming to a Close?

Eh, "live long enough to witness its decline" is the key point made here. It's easy enough to see desktop systems will migrate to mobile, after the technology reaches a point that a mobile system can do everything a fully-featured desktop could do without any compromises having to be made in...

Amazon, Google Remove In-App Buttons to Comply with Apple Rules

I can only hope other companies seize on this opportunity to bring wider support to non-Apple devices, is what I think. The cutback system for hyperlinking to stores online is bad enough, but taking a whopping 30% cut you mentioned in online purchases from the related application (which they...

10 Things Linux Does Better Than Windows

Good riddance, if I may say so. Trying to debate with a troll is just pointless to the extreme, figured it wouldn't take long before he couldn't keep his mouth in check. As far as linux goes... the recent builds of Linux have come a long ways from five years ago. That an average person can...

    Weird Problem

That isn't the most reliable brand of power supply, so it wouldn't be a huge surprise. Did you try running Prime95 and Komustor at the same time, or only individually? If the PSU is the issue running both together will probably get the problem to surface.
