NVIDIA Teases with Tessellation Performance on GTX 480

For the most part, i believe the limits are arbitrary, it's like putting transfer speed limits on flash memory (Compact flash and such, Class III memory etc). There are probably reasons, largely relating to Manufacturers, since it doesn't really affect End Users. With the selling of a card...

NVIDIA Teases with Tessellation Performance on GTX 480

Power consumption is a problem because the PCI-E Graphics (PEG) standard says that a single device can not draw more than 300Watts of power, this is why the ATI 5970 was deemed an under-performer, because it hit the 300 watt wall, but they encouraged overclocking. Thats the difference, they can...

More Proof that Steam is Coming to Mac OS X

The real problems is that of DirectX, most big label games are written with DX and very few use OpenGL, and since DX is a Microsoft tech, support outside Windows is purely 3rd party. Unless OpenGL and/or OpenCL picks up significantly or MS has a change of heart, the best you'll see are casual...

Is NVIDIA's GF100 Broken and Unfixable?

First Benchmark data released.... great tessellation performance... standard rendering is near enough on par with an ATI 5870. So it looks like predictions are coming true, average gaming performance, good programmability. Poor yields, mixed with the 196.75 driver fiasco, long delays and...

Is "Unlimited" Internet Ever Truly Unlimited?

That was the story back in the dial-up day, Unlimited Access and Free Access back then, instead of usage. You could Access the dial-up network for free and anytime you wanted, you still had to pay by the minute. Now it's Unlimited usage - subject to the terms of 'our fair usage policy', to which...

Firefox Might Not Ever Hit a 25% Market Share

I don't think a 3 month decline means it'll never reach 25%, i mean, it's lost 0.49% in 3 months, thats hardly a call for massive decline. But at least they'll get some publicity after this, maybe force them to release an update of some sort, since they are due one. At least Ars threw in the...

    More Details Surface on EVGA's Dual-Socket W555

Giving one away is all well and good, but since hardly anyone has a case to put it in... kind of defeats the point. It's still one hell of a premium to pay for a server-board you can overclock with 7 PCI-E slots. But that's not really the point is it, it's a nice 'this is what we can do' stunt...

    Do you suck at cooking?

Made a few of those mistakes as well, and i will say that i have a serious problem with cooking meats in general. White meat i can handle, it's actually quite hard to get wrong, but red meats... the number of failed attempts far exceed those of an edible level, lol. Pastries i don't have a...

    Thecus Releases "Zero-Crash" N4200 NAS

When i saw the 8 bay Drobo, i was excited.... until i saw the $1800 price tag. 8 Drives under raid 6 with battery backup... it really did make me think, but it uses it's own custom raid type solution for storage, which seems to work well, but it's designed as a Desktop Area Storage, rather than...

NVIDIA's Optimus Looks to Gain Steam, Support from Apple

The acceleration is limited to h.264 video and some raster/vector based processing on mobile devices. From the release notes... Supported cards are basically anything made in the last 2 years, Nvidia Ion and 8 series +, and Ati cards 4 series + (but i can confirm some 3 series work) with...

OCZ Neural Impulse Actuator - Where's My Tinfoil Helmet?

I really would love to give one of these a go as well, but the general consensus with various review sites was it takes time to learn how to use, as in, weeks of training. The other problem is that placement is key, if you don't have the electrodes in the right spot each time, it'll throw the...

Is NVIDIA's GF100 Broken and Unfixable?

Can't just switch architectures like that, since they'll need to completely redesign the chip again, plus there would be changes in power, voltage, frequency, etc, which changes the reference design, and so on. Also, TSMC's 32 and 28 processes are by no means flawless either, i don't even think...

Adobe Patches Security Hole in Product that Shouldn't Exist

Foxit reader to the rescue... to some extent, can't replace adobe Acrobat, but most people don't need that level of functionality anyway. But i do have to agree, the purpose of the download manager is kind of daft, it's yet another app to download and as we see here, adds more security...

Is NVIDIA's GF100 Broken and Unfixable?

AMD doesn't really own global foundries anymore, part of the deal with Intel. It's like this weird cross merger of Chartered Semiconductor and ATIC, Advanced Technology Investment Company, who pretty much owns Chartered Semiconductor anyway.... AMD is still involved, but not to the same extent...

    Is this mouse for real?!

All you need is one of those double mounded 'wrist support' mouse mats and you'd have the perfect combo. Fortunately, the mouse is just a concept - 3D render at that, unfortunately, the mouse mat is very real...

    Win7 task scheduler....

The reason i said Indexing is a pain to stop is because disabling the service actually doesn't do anything, since another service can just re-activate it, even with XP it's still a problem. Only way i found it to work is to go to each hard drive properties and uncheck the Allow Indexing option...
