    Win7 task scheduler....

If you need the black viper link... http://www.blackviper.com/Windows_7/servicecfg.htm As for disk thrashing... you checked the indexing service and windows search? They're a pain to stop, so most just leave it, it'll stop once it finishes indexing.

GIMP's Unified Window Mode is Looking Good

It's been a long time since i've sat down with the GIMP, but this coming update certainly makes me think again about installing it, but we'll need to wait a few months before the stable version is released since 2.7 is the developer release. As an aside, i think one of the other reasons that...

    GPGPU boom and the consequences…

I mean Malware in general rather than a virus explicitly, anything that could interact with the systems OS and applications (thus access to user data if need be), but with the help of the GPU. I will admit to my naivety somewhat, as i am probably over generalizing and missing things out. AV's...

Why am I losing DVI Signal to my two monitors?

Loose connection? Bad cable? Broken solder on the card output socket. If you've had the same problem with 2 cards and both times used the same cable, could actually be the cable, or the port on the monitor. If you have another port on the monitor like another DVI or a VGA slot, try that.

    PWM Fan question

4 pin fans will work in a 3 pin connector (as long as it fits), even fan controlled (yes, i have used 3/4pin combo's in the past), since as you state, most controllers change the voltage via a rheostat - which, while effective, is inefficient. PWM doesn't change the voltage, but the DC pulse...

    GPGPU boom and the consequences…

The explosive interest in GPGPU’s is something that has been a long time coming, and it is only now that there is a real push for it. It could unlock some of that latent potential that’s been building up over the years, along with SSD’s to give systems that bandwidth kick. But there is a real...

Adobe Releases GPU Accelerated Flash Plugin Beta

I might be a bit late with the reply, but this is something I’ve been pondering over for a long time…. (also, the second beta has been out for a while as well) The addition of GPU support for vector rendering in Flash might also be a sign of GPU support for other Creative suite applications...

    PWM Fan question

While backwards compatible, it's usually a case of, will the 3 pin have room for a 4 pin. Quick Diagram to show you.... If the 3 pin connector has a supporting boarder (like with extension cables or drive bay mounted fan controllers), you'll need to remove the right edge for the 4 pin to fit...

Music Sales Plummeted During Previous Decade

Got to agree with both rob and tango here. However, in the statistics, what do they include in the sales numbers? All digital media sales (itunes, amazon digital, etc), radio licenses, broadcasting services, like from TV channels? What about indie publishers, or self promoted bands, bands that...

Google Offers Bounties for Finding Chrome Bugs

Yup, your right, think i got some wires crossed reading up on it a couple years back with regard to some speculation over the name change or something. Forum posts and announcements sometimes blend together.... my mistake.

    The Biggest Rip-Offs in America

That was the joke made not too long ago, it was cheaper to send and receive data from the Hubble space telescope than it was to send a text message (there is an article somewhere that explains it). Printer Ink, that has been in recent discussion. Bottled Water... especially at concerts, where a...

Are Games Becoming More Annoying to Play?

I have indeed noticed the trend of GFW logins and such. Permission to make a list.... tough, already have.... - Compulsory Gamespy and other multiplayer 'enhancements'. - EULA enforced usage statistics for third-parties and advertisers with no opt-out. - Consent to EULA simply by opening the...

Official: First NVIDIA Fermi Cards are GTX 470, GTX 480

Anyone remember when creative skipped the Audigy 3 and went straight to 4? Stellar performance increase - massive and explosive sound - doubled transistor count - and yeah, it was nothing but a minor revision of the Audigy 2, released as version 4 and then later re-badged as the X-Fi Xtreme...

Pidgin is a fork of GAIM, and left gaim behind, can't even remember why they split.

70% of Employers Rejected Applicants Based on Online Info

Glad i am not the only one. I desperately try and get people to stop using these damn social sites. They just tell me 'i'm paranoid' and 'who'll use my information...', and when i try to tell them that anyone can and will, they laugh, saying who'll look for their info. They don't understand the...

Does Panopticlick Prove that Anonymous Browsing is Dead?

Quite simple.... Style. Some websites want their site to look a certain way - to be unique, and quite often that requires the use of specific fonts. Each font has a different tracking, kerning and leading distance (space between characters, space between words and space between lines), as well...

The Reasons Printers are from Hell

Desktop/Office printers are annoying, but comparatively simple, especially with inkjets, to diagnose/fix. The shenanigans they pull with regard to the price of ink, well, we all know what's going on there. A while ago, i had an A3 HP inkjet printer, was acceptable with regard to quality, but...

    Windows crashing

Performing a backup whilst updating the OS is not really a good idea, you can induce a read/write error on a critical file - in that the backup utility is reading whilst the update is writing, leading to a corrupt file. Yes, there are supposed to be plenty of software and hardware tricks that...

BioShock 2 Will Use SecuROM DRM, Has 5-Time Activation Limit

Another fact that is brought up time and time again, and rightfully so, is WHEN the Authentication server goes offline. No if's about it, just when. You buy the game, you spend half an hour to and hour installing it, go to play, says it needs to authenticate and what do you know - beyond any of...

Windows 7 just became Vista part 2....

I've made it a habit over the last few years to never store anything in any of the designated OS user storage areas (anything with a 'My' in the name). I'd rather keep my data safe(er) by going through a hierarchy of folders rather than save stuff in any of the 'My' folders for the sake of...
