In need of a little assistance.

My old 6800 GT did this last year, I turned it on one day, screen turns into a multi coloured splattered mess, 800x600 is still good going, normally it's 640x480, since it's probably dropped back into VGA mode with either 256 or 16-bit colour, if this is the highest resolution it supports...

    Toshiba Claims Hard-drive Breakthrough

Only three ways I know of that could speed up access times on the mechanical side ... Multiple heads per platter (i think we've been crying out for them, like... forever), and due to the higher density of these new drives, make the platter smaller with a faster spinning spindle... which is...

40 billionaires to give half their wealth to charity

Not to mention, the debt is in the trillions, over $1.3 trillion I believe, all those billionaires donating spare cash would actually make next to no difference, and quite a few aren't even American, so why should they donate to the US, lol? I still find the whole 'donate to charity' thing...

Incoming PS3 Mod Chip Claims to Allow Game Backups

Reading comments on Ars, many think it's a Dev Kit with debug software... the USB stick is there just for show, it might not actually do anything, in which case it's a complete hoax. The other comments say that it might be debug firmware on the USB stick... In either case, the video proves...

    Toshiba Claims Hard-drive Breakthrough

I'm skeptical, they said they'll hit the market by 2013... will we have fixed the LBA block before then? Remember, solving it is one thing, implementing it is another, just look at how long it took 64-bit to become mainstream, then of course there is the previous 28bit to 48bit LBA fiasco a few...

Has Gearbox Software Taken Over Duke Nukem Forever Development?

But - but - but.... if Gearbox releases DNF, we'll need a new poster-child for vaporware.... WINFS maybe? Even the serious sam jokes about the blonde guy will loose meaning.

    PSU Suggestion Required!

Is it a bad time to mention Corsair's H70 cooler then ? Offers a further 10% drop in temps over the H50....

    PSU Suggestion Required!

A GTX 480 recommends a minimum of 600Watts, so a 750 should give you the room to play. But now that i look at all the fans, water cooling and high overclock, i'd be more inclined to go with a 850 to give you the room to play. The 480 is seriously power hungry though and if you OC it, it'll go...

Adjusting affinity effectively improves gaming performance

Made no difference to me, same frame rate, it does the same as if you were to use taskmanager, and all my processes are set to use all cores anyway. But i have an underpowered P4 with HT... so i doubt it'll make any difference to me anyway. I don't have Need for Speed though, just tried it out...

Nielsen Tells Us How We Spend Our Time Online

I'm happy to say that I defy statistics. Search and IM are way way up, and quite often done at the same time (software info would be included with search), 3rd would be video (youtube) and 4th might be games, but i spend most of my time offline for games. Portals.... is that Forums and such? If...

StarCraft II Causing Graphics Cards to Overheat?

Unless a game can overclock/overvolt your GPU, then no, this isn't software related, but driver and Hardware related. It happens with every game release, someone somewhere will loose a card while playing a game, then immediately blame the game for it. Ironically, I lost my Nvidia based GPU while...

Move Over Firefox, I Choose Chrome

Just updated Firefox to 3.6.8 and it became unusable as a result of visiting a single website.... I'll let the screencap explain why..... Tabs left to right = Application Process, CPU Usage, Current Memory, Peak Memory, Virtual Memory, Page Faults. (high page faults is normal). So 1.5GB of...

    The motherboard... it is small.

Nah, it'll be the grand and comical case of the battery being bigger than the motherboard.... a whole CR2032... Does that mean the newage computer will be a plastic shroud covered in vents, small enough to fit in your pocket and hot enough to burn a hole through it :p.

Who Rules the SSD World Right Now?

Prices are one thing, reliability and density is another. There seems to be a complete detachment from SLC NAND from the consumer market, it's nearly all MLC now. I guess prices need to drop and density increase before SLC takes off, since then it'll be worth the investment considering it costs...

Optimizing Your Firefox Installation with SpeedyFox

They should integrate it into the 'housekeeping' part of any patches/updates they make. So when they release an update, it optimizes the database as well, I'm sure they could build a script into the installer to handle it. Building it into the app itself may be a little more tricky, but it could...

    iPhone: Fail.

To be honest, it shouldn't have been released with such a design flaw in the first place, free case or not. Jobs is doing what he always does, smooth talking.... using selective statistics to prove his case. Just because someone hasn't complained to customer service, doesn't mean there isn't a...

    Gigabyte 890FXA-UD5

Nope :(. You can use a SATA 1 or 2 hard drive in a SATA 3 socket, but it won't increase your bandwidth. Mechanical drives can only just stress a SATA 1 socket... and that's with the help of the on-board cache. SATA3 is purely for SSD's and high speed HDD cache. So yes, you can use your drives...

    iPhone: Fail.

They'll just wait 6 months then come out with the 5G and charge $700 for it, that'll fix the problem..... oh wait, they tried that stunt before, even with refunds it was hard for many to swallow..... hmmmm. I know, they'll throw in a free App store download as well..... that'll fix it...

What do you think about this...??

Sorry, forum alert didn't pop up stating that you had replied (a bit of a common problem here). The new desktop will indeed perform better than your current system, but you may find problems if you have multiple apps open since you are going from 3GB to 2GB of ram. The new graphics card will be...

    Microsoft Wireless Laser Desktop 4000

You computer is probably only going into a high level sleep mode, effectively idle, and sensitive mice have a habit of breaking that state with the simplest vibration on the desk. You'll probably need to change the sleep state to a lower level, such as S3 or S5 - this is done through the BIOS...
