    Tweaking Windows 7

I suppose it will depend on your system. Assuming Windows 7, you will want to do this if, for instance, you are running with 3 GB of RAM or less and want to do any sort of gaming without being thrown back to the desktop because Aero starts complaining. On my case, with 4Gb I do it because...

Mozilla Releases First 'Rapid Release' Firefox, 5.0

Absolutely. They are bound to change. One just can't have a version-bound extension framework with rapid release cycles. Especially when FF extension base is so vast and varied. Personally I think it's marketing cave-in to user demands. I've been noting an increase in users demands for...

Duke Nukem Forever Demo lands TODAY!

Ok. I'm stumped. What's the secret to want to play DNF a 2nd time? Drugs? :p

    Universe

Assuming it is indeed infinite, that would be the most incredible finding. In an infinite universe, there's an infinite history where everything that can happen, will eventually happen. There being many earths would be just the start. On one of these earths, I published The Republic in its...

    ICANN Approves Custom Top-Level Domains

*shivers* I didn't do it. They made me say all these things.

Mozilla Releases First 'Rapid Release' Firefox, 5.0

... Only because of the way the extension framework currently works. However, it's been known to many of us that a simple edit on one line of the java file contents is all we usually need to do in order to get one extension to work in the new version, without having to wait for the extension...

    ICANN Approves Custom Top-Level Domains

Being able to finally edit the gTLD namespace is an important -- I would say inevitable -- consequence of IPv6 adoption. The fantastic number of IP addresses this protocol will introduce needs to be met with a relaxation of the domain naming rules. As is, we are already having all sorts of...

    Universe

I'm a profound atheist. You could almost say that is my religion. But only almost, because atheism is by the very definition a refusal of Belief. :) Now I don't confuse atheism with agnosticism, which I consider just a disguise of a belief. Atheism simply holds there are no God or Gods (or...

Best Buy and NewEgg.com argue over "Geek"

Well, if Best Buy named their tech support division Geek Squad, then definitely "geek" is still a bad thing.

Google killing off 'I'm Feeling Lucky' button?

@Rob Actually it used to be there with Google Instant. It's not anymore. Didn't notice that change until you mentioned it. Smart of them. Possibly a 2 step plan; First make people forget about it, then quietly remove it. Better than just removing it and facing a barrage of criticism by folks...

Google killing off 'I'm Feeling Lucky' button?

How many years is the google search engine? I think I've been using since it's very inception back when. Mostly because I completely despised the then Web Portal (and directory) approach to search engines. ... and yet... If I say I clicked the I'm Feeling Lucky search button 3 times in all this...

    Tweaking Windows 7

Very nice, thanks. I tend to tweak a lot my services too, but it's mostly a hunt and peck type of activity, with many services left unchanged because I can't find good enough information about them and don't want to risk system stability. So seeing this document is definitely something very...

Initial Reviews Put Duke Nukem Forever as a 'Mediocre' Game

Indeed. Hope Kougar advice helps, because you have there a way too high temp for a laptop. I admit laptops are not an area I know much about concerning these things. I use them exclusively for presentations, or travelling, and never for work or gaming. But it doesn't take an expert to know...

Initial Reviews Put Duke Nukem Forever as a 'Mediocre' Game

Kayden's on to it. If everything else is apparently normal, hardware problems is the next logical step. I understand that a bug that reveals itself in one game is an hard thing to swallow in this context, but do trust me that a IDirect3DVertexBuffer9::Lock crash is almost always tied to the...

Initial Reviews Put Duke Nukem Forever as a 'Mediocre' Game

This is actually only very rarely an error originated in code, but by your GPU. IDirect3DVertexBuffer9 is a Direct3D interface used to take advantage of dynamic vertex buffers and plays a significant role in optimizing performance during scene rendering. IDirect3DVertexBuffer9::Lock is the...

    Duke Nukem Forever Review

Yeah. It was. Towards the end of the Summer of '91, I reckon. It was the first game that I played on that brand new computer (a IBM PS/2 30-286) because of a demo on the cover of PC Plus magazine that month. Only one triple-A title that I know off. Anything else, probably only on the indie...

    Duke Nukem Forever Review

Balanced review. It's nice to see something that isn't "this sucks" or "this rocks". I can't agree with all that has been said, though. But this is so much about personal preferences or even the mental predisposition at the time, that I think it would be futile to debate the details. I was a...

Initial Reviews Put Duke Nukem Forever as a 'Mediocre' Game

Could you manage a 1 hour trip to Fredericton? According to this they have a decent mall over there; the Regent Mall. The mall website lists a GameStop shop and a Wal-Mart. The GameStop is probably all you need if the one in your area doesn't have it... or you could just order it from them.
