The "Monster HDMI Difference" scam still alive and strong

Remember that story we posted way back in 2007 that exposed a retailer that compared Monster HDMI to the competitors HDMI (which was really Composite)? Well, it looks like that scam is still alive and kicking. This time, it's at Fry's Electronics, and it's the exact same scam. Once again, the...

Class Action Against Best Buy's Price-Matching Policy

From our front-page news:In the past week or two, we've been posting about Office Depot's less-than-stellar selling practices. One thing I made sure to mention, though, was that Office Depot is in no way the only company to stoop to such low levels, and it sure didn't take too long before dirt...

Obama administration supports RIAA's ludicrous fines

Well, this sucks. It looks like the Obama administration sides with the RIAA's excessive fines for downloading a track, which can range between $750 and $150,000. We know that the RIAA will charge that, too, as evidenced by the flurry of court cases, and people who've lost them (and will now be...

    Max Payne 3 in 2009!

Woo hoo, it looks like we'll be getting another Max Payne game, and by the holiday season no less. I find that hard to believe, given we're just hearing about the title now, but who knows... it might happen. If you've never played either of the previous Max Paynes, you need to. Both were...

FTC to require real testimonials for advertisements

Stork, they aren't going to flaunt people who haven't stuck to a certain program, that'd just be ridiculous, and in effect, that would be false advertising. It's true... there are a lot of people out there with a total lack of ambition who can't stick to a certain weight-loss programme or...

Intel to Drop Prices in April, Introduce New i7 Models in May

Intel won't phase out the i7-920... no way. It is, without question, their most popular i7 model, so I can't see them getting rid of it in lieu of a slightly higher clocked model. I also really can't see the i7-940 going either. You're right... that's too big of a gap, from 2.66GHz to 3.06GHz. I...

    Cooler Master V10 CPU Cooler

ikjadoon: It's all good. The reason Intel and AMD doesn't release those kinds of stress-testers is because there's no point. They are so over-the-top, that in absolutely no possible situation could you ever achieve the same. IntelBurnTest and anything else that uses Linpack is pretty much the...

    Logitech G51 Gaming Surround Speakers

I wish I knew more on the topic, but it sounds like the Matrix button is nothing more than a huge waste of time. You get a far better experience with it off than on... I can't see that as being what they were going for. Did you download the latest software for it on Logitech's site, rather than...

Ahh, right. I knew they were coming out with a game, but I didn't expect it so soon. To be honest, I didn't expect it to be that good either (given it's their first title), but it's good to hear that it's actually a winner. As for not needing a CD key to install, that's amazing... damn. They...

AMD Demonstrates Live Migration on Opteron Platforms

From our front-page news:Last month, I posted about my newfound love for virtualization, which came as a result of me actually taking the time to experiment and see all of what was possible from a home-user's perspective. Given I run Linux as my primary OS, the draw has been there for a while...

Intel to Drop Prices in April, Introduce New i7 Models in May

From our front-page news: Last November, Intel launched their long-awaited Core i7 processors. These were well-received, and rightfully so. These new CPUs came out on top on most performance charts, some by a rather significant margin (remember the differences with ray-tracing tests?). But, one...

Internet Explorer 8 Gets Released - Worth a Go?

From our front-page news:I'm not sure how I missed this, but last Wednesday, Microsoft finally released the next major version of Internet Explorer, 8.0. Made first as a beta last spring, Internet Explorer 8 touts most of what you'd expect to hear from a new browser release... better...

I've never even heard of Sins of a Solar Empire, though I'm not an RTS gamer by any stretch. Glad to hear it's such a good one though. How long would you say a given match lasts? As for Left 4 Dead, that's understandable. I have a weird relationship with that game. When I first played it, I...

    Cooler Master V10 CPU Cooler

Linpack was and still is an Intel creation, although the free version they allow people to use in their own applications (IntelBurnTest, OCCT) isn't as robust. It doesn't currently work properly on i7, for example. I am really, really hoping that an updated version comes out sooner than later...

FTC to require real testimonials for advertisements

Haha! It looks like the FTC is stepping into how advertisers push their product in a rather significant way. I'll just let the article speak for itself: Ahh, I hope this goes according to plan. To also quote the first commenter: Agreed. Especially when it's your money at stake...

Next version of Microsoft Office to come in 32/64-bit

Whew, it's ABOUT TIME. The next version of Office is going to be included in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions, and we can assume both will be on the same dual-layer DVD since both should be able to fit. Will performance be affected? Probably in massive workloads, but not so much for regular use...

Nine Inch Nails releases more free music...

If you've been paying attention to Nine Inch Nails lately, then you might be aware of their upcoming tour which is supposed to be unlike any other they've done in the past. They'll be headlining the show with long-time friends Jane's Addiction, and also Street Sweeper. It goes without saying, if...

ASUS' foldable notebook to be available this year...

Whew, I sure wasn't expecting this! When we first learned of ASUS' foldable laptop at CES this past January, we were told that a release date was unknown, and it felt like we were dealing with a 1 - 2 year timespan, but no. According to ASUS CEO Jerry Shen, the notebook will be available in...

Woops, another victim of my late-night editing. Thanks for pointing that one out. How'd the LAN go for you? I love house LANs, but sadly, I don't get to enough.

    Cooler Master V10 CPU Cooler

Ibrahim, good to see you around! Now all we need is for AMD and Intel to release their internal stress-testers (which will never happen), which go even further than Linpack. Their tools affect all transistors in the CPU at the same time, something our software can't pull off. Talk about hardcore!
