Retail Core i7 Processors Are Memory/QPI Unlocked

It's too bad our ES processor lacks these open multipliers... we'll still have to test at DDR3-1066. Unless somehow a new BIOS fixes the issue, but I think this is more of a hardware issue with the CPU, not the BIOS. Intel wouldn't just lock it via BIOS... it'd be too easy to crack.

5 month Core SSD v1 review

The loss in performance is interesting enough though, even though it's small. I believe a lot of it just has to do with fragmentation, but originally, I thought this would have been an issue SSDs could get around, since they can read from different portions of the drive extremely quickly...

Report: Office Depot Lies to Customers to Boost Profit on Notebooks

The closest I've ever worked in a place like this would be a supermarket, and obviously, you don't often see employees trying to push something on customers there. Simply walking into a place like Office Depot or Best Buy tells me enough. It bugs the hell out of me when I'm just looking at...

Apple Releases Third Generation iPod shuffle

I agree... this thing is far too small. It's not that discreet either though... the player could be invisible, but if you are wearing earbuds, it pretty-much gives you away. Haha, I never heard or saw that one. Sounds good though.

    Asus Xonar Soundcard Drivers!

Come on... I think the rule is pretty much a given to not discuss illegal software here, much-less recommend it. I don't use a single piece of illegit software, and I plan to keep it that way. I was the stark opposite years ago, when I had no money, but a decent job gave me a little more...

Why is North America Lagging in Internet Speed?

You don't get Rogers there either? 1.5Mbit/s is hard to stomach... when I first had Aliant DSL in 1999, I had 3Mbit/s speeds... so how on earth are certain plans even lower? The kicker? Back then, we paid $40 a month... and that's when it was new! Nowadays you pay a lot more, when we should...

    Trip Out for fun

Hah, that site is great. The imagination one is one of the better ones, although I liked Fractal and Strobe as well. Strobe in particular is cool... really screws your eyes up after you look away from the screen. Good find.

How Much Are People Really Paying for Their Cell Plan?

Hah, roll over minutes... it's a nice feature. We finally got them up here from one company, but it's a company that offers worse service than Rogers, so either way, you still lose.

Sharkoon's FireGlider Mouse Targets Serious Gamers

From our front-page news: The last time you decided to purchase a new gaming mouse, statistics show that it was probably produced by Logitech. If you are more of a hardcore gamer, then maybe you strayed a little off the beaten path and chose one of Razer's or SteelSeries excellent offerings. The...

NVIDIA Pays Out Even More, Scales back NVISION

From our front-page news: Things might be a little (hah!) heated between AMD and Intel, but NVIDIA hasn't been able to stay out of the news for all the wrong reasons either. It's been no secret that NVIDIA has had troubles with mobile graphics chips, and the fix for those seem to be coming to an...

AMD and Intel's Feud Heating Up

From our front-page news: Things are beginning to get a little ugly between AMD and Intel, but the state of the situation varies depending on who you ask. When AMD first announced plans to open up a new fab with the help of outside companies, Intel had something to say about it immediately...

    Xbox 360 Controller for Windows

I believe that the Xbox 360 controller is supposed to work with Vista out-of-the-box, but I'm not too sure about the wireless version. Regardless, Microsoft offers drivers for that as well, on their website: http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/download/download.aspx?category=Gaming Good luck!

High end audio from PC sources...

As it stands now, I live in a crap apartment, but once I find myself in more space, a good stereo setup is something I'm definitely going to go after, so it's nice to know that it's so easy to have it function with a PC. Does this rule here apply just for modest systems, or could you hook up...

    2.0/2.1 pc speakers

2Tired: So if I understand this right, you purchased the X-240 just for the woofer? Just trying to make sure I'm following along here. I have the same set, but rarely use them (I'm a headphone's user). I can agree on the sound quality... it's not too good. The woofer is quite good though, even...

Why is North America Lagging in Internet Speed?

From our front-page news: When it comes to broadband in North America, it's easy to become envious of other parts of the world, where 10Mbit/s connections are laughed at. ISPs in Japan, for example, offer a 150Mbit/s service for only $60. In the US, it would cost you between $90 - $150 for a...

From our front-page news:If there's no shortage of one thing, it would be solid-state news. Just earlier this week, we linked to a story that showed crafty Samsung employees playing around with 24 SSD drives in RAID, and the end result was without question, impressive. The problem with a setup...

Fake iTunes Cards Sure to Give Apple a Headache

From our front-page news: Apple can't seem to catch much of a break lately.
