    GOG.com - Breathing New Life into Old Games

    I also want Deus Ex! I have a feeling Final Fantasy VII won't happen soon, though. I don't believe Square Enix has ever sold their games via a digital means like this in the past, although that's not to say it will never happen... it'd be nice. BUT, I have to say that to truly experience that...

    Core i7 920 Overclock 2.66GHz -> 4.22GHz Stable

    Welcome to the forums unclewebb, and thanks for the explanations, and also the work on both of these tools! I downloaded both RealTemp 3.30 and i7 Turbo and stressed the CPU once again. Here are the results: The log file from i7 Turbo is here (right-click, save as). I'm not quite sure I...

    Our Processor Testing Suite

    Hi all: As you're probably all aware by now, we're in the midst of upgrading all of our various methodologies on the website, and now that our graphics card test suite is all sorted out, it's time to tackle the next one: processors. For the most part, we've been using the exact same base for...

    Cryostasis Review(('bout time!!))

    Thanks for the great review, Altrus! It's nice to see that Cryostasis isn't only good for NVIDIA's marketing purposes ;-) I need to give this one a try, actually, even if it's just to see the much-touted PhysX exclusive effects. I'm REALLY not sure I'll enjoy the gameplay you describe too much...

    Nintendo DS > iPhone?

    Oi, haha. I have a stark opposite opinion... I hated that gamepad. It was fine for Nintendo-developed games, but for others, or cross-platform games, it became a nuisance. NES gamepad forever!

    VirtualBox 3.0 Introduces Direct3D and OpenGL Support

    I'm not sure to be honest, but I can test it out later if I get the time. The performance I've seen so far with the 3.0 beta isn't at all impressive, so I'm really beginning to believe it's not worth a go at this point in time. It was slow on this machine, and no OS would boot on the Windows...

    Core i7 920 Overclock 2.66GHz -> 4.22GHz Stable

    I did another quick test, to see at which point the CPU throttled. I took a screenshot the moment I saw the clock speed decrease, and this is what I got: For whatever reason, the chip here throttles even before it hits 80C, unless that counter just didn't update as fast as the clock speed...

    ASRock Also Going the 2oz Copper Route?

    You got me to thinking... I wonder how many people run out to purchase a motherboard and base their decision on features such as "StackCool". I admit, most of these features even I don't pay attention to, so I'm really curious as to whether or not they are truly necessary, or if even 1% of...

    Intel touts supercomputer dominance

    Intel today sent out a press release touting the fact that their processors can be found inside of 80% of the world's super computers. Not a bad feat. Now if only I could get one of these supercomputers in for testing... HAMBURG, Germany, June 23, 2009 – More supercomputers than ever are using...

    Simplifying Intel's Processor Naming Scheme

    Well, this is a new concept to me, but I'm willing to believe it. The same thing goes for Lynnfield > Westmere, although those are at least designed for the same socket to begin with. I'll ping Intel and see if I can get an answer of any sort...

    Intel and Nokia Expand Partnership to Develop Future Mobile Standard

    From our front-page news:Psst... guess what? Did you realize that mobile computing is ultra-popular? Of course you do. In fact, it might be impossible to not realize the fact. Ten years ago, cell phones were beginning to catch on, but they were far from being so popular that everyone owned one...

    OCZ Launches Sabre OLED Gaming Keyboard

    From our front-page news:Back at CES, OCZ showed off a rather unique gaming peripheral... the Sabre OLED keyboard. The concept of putting OLED on a keyboard isn't new, and it was pretty much the Optimus Maximus that put the technology on the map, but with OCZ's Sabre, the board is designed in...

    Antec 1000W Quattro... dead.

    I did jump-start it... still dead. I wouldn't have chucked it without testing it that way first. As for the warranty, I can't be bothered. It's way too much of a hassle to just make a few bucks off of eBay. Not to mention the potential future hassle of having the refurb blow up for the...

    Your worst experience with a computer?

    Whoa, wait a sec. A power surge killed THAT many computers? How is that possible?! Either way, what an incredibly huge mess... I couldn't imagine dealing with that! Ugh, man... that is... ugh. At least you got a nice paycheck out of the ordeal!

    ASRock Also Going the 2oz Copper Route?

    I'm not sure even ASUS themselves understand their ridiculous motto. I'm confident that my version of what's rock solid and heart touching differs from theirs, though. For the most part, Asian manufacturers just don't seem to care about proper translation. I was given a mouse by Gigabyte at...

    Antec 1000W Quattro... dead.

    No, I'm fortunate there... no hardware was affected at all. I've been lucky where that's concerned, because it's been a long while since I've had a piece of hardware die because of another piece of hardware. I've even had motherboards burn out while in use and the other hardware still be fine.

    Kingston HyperX Contest for Canucks

    From our front-page news: You know what Canadians don't get enough of? The right to enter contests! It's true... growing up, I recall that most contests that remotely interested me, were inaccessible due to me living in Canada. "Bah", I said, and I simply gave up on contests entirely after some...

    Your worst experience with a computer?

    Oh geez, another thread to bring up dreaded memories! The first PC I ever took seriously was a 286 we owned, complete with monochrome monitor. I loved that thing. It had some DOS overlay, but I don't quite recall what it even looked like. I just know it was a menu system, and allowed you to...
