VirtualBox 3.0 Introduces Direct3D and OpenGL Support

    VMware causing an issue with a game? That sounds ridiculous, but nothing surprises me anymore. Your VMware image should be stored somewhere on your machine... just move it out of the way so the uninstall won't touch it. As far as I know, an uninstall won't touch those anyway. It'd be like...

    Does MobileMark Need to Change Its Focus?

    You are of the extreme minority... I can't see many wanting such horrible battery-life on the go, or to handle 3D objects without a mouse. I could be wrong, but I sure can't picture it. Kougar: I'll likely do something like that. What I'll likely do is make a script that lasts an hour and fits...

    Simplifying Intel's Processor Naming Scheme

    Haha, it sure seems that way! Alright, I hate to ask this, but how is it that LGA1366 chips could become LGA1156 chips? I thought the socket size was physically different? Is the internal architecture really that exact, between both Lynnfield and Bloomfield?

    Core i7 920 Overclock 2.66GHz -> 4.22GHz Stable

    Behold my 4.2GHz overclock. I told you I have cooling issues. Oh, I know it's there. I just can't find it. I'll have another look soon. It's hard for me to tell because the temps go high fast, but I do believe mine throttles at around ~85C.

    ASRock Also Going the 2oz Copper Route?

    Could that be due to your motherboard's phase solution? I'm not sure what board you have, but some nowadays can have in excess of 12 phases, and I'd assume that would result in a bit more material around the CPU socket.

    NVIDIA Shows Off ION-based Devices, Including Pegatron IPP7A-CP

    It's sad because that's true. There are many who don't even consider backing up, and I'm confident everyone is going to run into a bad issue where they highly regret not taking it more seriously. Of course, it took me about five data losses before I really began to take it seriously...

    Apple's Updated MacBook Pro's Deliver Outstanding Battery-Life

    OS X might be the "perfect" operating system depending on who you ask, but everyone likes a change every now and then, even if the change limits you a bit more than you're used to. OS X is built on top of Unix, so it's really not a far stretch from Linux to begin with. Thanks to that, many...

    Antec 1000W Quattro... dead.

    What bugs me is that I was out of the room when it happened, so I have no idea what happened exactly. Could have been some component that "popped", but I didn't hear anything from the kitchen. I'm confident it was just a faulty PSU... it's known for having issues, so in all honesty, it dying...

    World's most valuable sports teams?

    I'm not familiar with that sport at all, but congrats man!

    Antec 1000W Quattro... dead.

    No funeral, but it's having a good rest in the dumpster behind this apartment complex.

    Antec 1000W Quattro... dead.

    I've never had a power supply die within two months of use before... but I guess there's a first time for everything. I purchased (yes, I actually bought something) an Antec TruePower Quattro 1000W early last year for use in our Skulltrail article, after which point it was thrown in the closet...

    An Open Letter on the State of Video Games

    Valve is doing a lot of great things, but I'm not entirely sold on the idea that I want Steam to become the standard (even though it pretty much is). Services like Direct 2 Drive are actually pretty good. You can download the game, then burn it to a disc if you wish... you don't have to go...

    Our Graphics Card Testing Suite

    Yeah, I had to have not published the HD 4770 article yet, but I simply couldn't have done it with the same test suite we've been using. Would have been a disservice to our readers. Can't wait for the motherboard I need to arrive though, then I can get down to testing!

    Simplifying Intel's Processor Naming Scheme

    Alright, I'm confused. The 2.8GHz Lynnfield lacks some of what makes Core i7 "amazing", yet it's set to cost the same as the Core i7-920, and actually be faster in the process? I'm confused here, big time. It almost feels like Intel realized that certain technologies in Core i7 weren't worth the...

    Core i7 920 Overclock 2.66GHz -> 4.22GHz Stable

    The "Core Speed" box is actively monitored and updates every 1s or so. During stress-testing, it would drop down 600MHz or more, so it was fairly obvious that temperatures were getting in my way. I don't think I can agree on the expense issue... I truly find that to be a great value. That's an...

    Apple's Updated MacBook Pro's Deliver Outstanding Battery-Life

    I'm not sure how the process works nowadays, but you've always been able to install Linux on Macs as far as I know... even back in the Power PC days (thanks to Yellow Dog Linux). Linux also supports EFI no problem, so I'm not sure if there's a real limitation there. I do know of people who've...

    NVIDIA Shows Off ION-based Devices, Including Pegatron IPP7A-CP

    If I ever get down there to Texas, you are going to have to prove this one to me ;-) Even a NAS box isn't going to protect you in that case (why wouldn't it get stolen also?). I regularly back up all my important documents to DVD, in case both my PC and NAS box happened to go up in smoke. I...

    Experience with Corsair RMA

    Ahh, not bad! Glad the RMA went well, then.

    Should we consider RAM content?

    Whoops. I did kind of get off the memory topic there. I have to be honest here... the tests you describe are severe overkill for our goals. While the results could prove interesting, testing for things like crosstalk sounds more like something that should be tested in a proper lab, with...

    VirtualBox 3.0 Introduces Direct3D and OpenGL Support

    I gave the beta a go, and I have to admit... I'm not too excited. I tried it in Linux, and installed Windows 7. The OS worked pretty well, but still no Direct3D support. I also found another limitation... the graphics is limited to 128MB, and if I tried to use anything more than 64MB, the OS...
