    Linux Mint 8 Released

That's just the Universal edition, which is meant to be used worldwide. The standard version is still there with codecs intact. Even on the Universal edition, it's as simple as using a menu item to install all the codecs. The developers have to cover their behinds somehow.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

Hah, I agree... I want to see MW3 just to continue the story. It's not that MW2's story was that original, or intriguing, but it wasn't too bad at the same time. You'll like Special Ops I'm sure, but I recommend playing with a friend, not solo, because it's much, much more fun that way.

Dirt 2 Due Out this Week, DirectX 11 Goodies Included

From our front-page news: Where PC graphics are concerned, this week is a big one, because the first game on these shores capable of taking advantage of DirectX 11 technologies will be here, Dirt 2. The game was initially set for launch last month, but has since been delayed multiple times...

    video card power requirments

Wow, you've stumbled on some great reading here. I'm going to have to take a look at that Tom's article later, and as for that first graph... I get a major headache just look at it. I hate dealing with creation of graphs, but that one is a true monster... ugh.

From our front-page news: This past summer, Sun released a new major version of its popular virtualization software, VirtualBox. For fans of the tool, 3.0 brought a slew of notable features, including support for 3D graphics, increased allowed number of virtual CPUs, and a barrage of bug fixes...

What if Coca Cola Cans Lost their Color?

I also agree, but something tells me that the masses wouldn't.

    Linux Mint 8 Released

From our front-page news: The world of Linux is a fun one to be part of, because when it comes down to it, the sheer amount of choice, from applications to distributions, is unparalleled. For desktop Linux, some of the most popular options are Ubuntu, Fedora, openSUSE and a couple of others, but...

What if Coca Cola Cans Lost their Color?

From our front-page news: More than ever, doing your part to help (or rather, not hurt) the environment is important, and that's becoming increasingly more clear as the days pass. People themselves aren't just jumping in to make sure they recycle their products, cut down on pollution among...

    Apple Releases iTunes LP SDK

From our front-page news: A couple of months ago, Apple released a new format for music on its iTunes music store, called iTunes LP. Like the albums that LP denotes, iTunes LP was designed to give people more than just the music to go along with their purchase, such as unique video, lyrics...

    Intel DP55WG

I do believe Intel's boards to be the most stable out there, and that's the reason I pointed that out in the review. But still, for $140, I'd expect a bit more for the cash.

    ASUS' P55 Boards Don't Degrade PCI-E Performance for S-ATA/USB 3.0

From our front-page news: In last week's review of Gigabyte's P55A-UD4P, I raised a concern about using either S-ATA 3.0 or USB 3.0 devices and still achieving the best graphics performance possible. The problem, is that because these devices share the PCI-E bus, and also thanks to the lack of...

    Top 10 Cross-Platform Applications

From our front-page news: As we slowly inch towards the new year, I can't help but think about the sheer number of "Top xx" lists I've looked at throughout 2009. There were many this year, some good and some "meh", and when I think of the good ones, I tend to think of Lifehacker, since most...

Last.fm: Behind the Popular Music Service

From our front-page news: As I've mentioned in our news in the past, I'm a big fan of Last.fm, a site that not only keeps track of music I listen to, but also allows me to discover artists I'm not at all familiar with, based off recommendations that the site gives me. Because the site knows what...

    PSU calculator

A 1000W PSU isn't needed at all... 700W or 800W tops. It's important to get a good-quality model from a respected brand though... it's not something you want to skimp on. 1000W is a bit overkill for almost all high-end setups, though.

    Gigabyte P55A-UD4P

I talked to a couple of people (no names), and it turns out that ASUS is indeed looking for alternatives, but it isn't about to move over without a lot of testing and investigation. The company wouldn't ever admit whether or not there was an issue with Foxconn sockets, but like most huge...

    Cooler Master Cosmos S

That's one potential downside with water-cooling, at least as far as I'm aware. Unlike most air coolers, water-blocks tend to be built for a specific mount, so it's complicated to use a single block from build to build (again, I could be wrong). The air cooler situation right now is good though...

    Intel DP55WG

For most consumers, Intel might not be the first name to come to mind when building a new PC, but the company offers a rather robust line-up of boards for each chipset it releases. We're looking at the $140 "mainstream" DP55WG, which has an simple overall feature-set, but includes support for IR...

    Dlink DGS-2205 ... died

Haha, I laughed out loud at this thread, despite the death of a perfectly good switch. Out of curiosity, did any of the cats sleep on the switch for prolonged periods of time? Those things get warm, so they attract cats like nothing else. Of course, a cat on a router or switch means even more...
