Inching Closer to Solving TRIM on Linux

I couldn't imagine that it'd be much different under Linux if it's working. The three methods of deletion that activate TRIM is DELETE, DISCARD and FORMAT. I'll make sure once I -do- get TRIM working (if I can) that all three of these do indeed activate TRIM. Just to be clear, the Linux kernel...

Inching Closer to Solving TRIM on Linux

From our front-page news:It's been exactly two weeks since I last reported on my investigations into TRIM for Linux, so now seems like a great time to update you all on my progress. Unfortunately, because I've been focusing so much on our regular content, I haven't been able to dedicate as much...

    Has the Nintendo Wii Stalled?

Or in the case of most people I know who use their Wii's on a regular basis... they "play" Wii Fit.

    Linux Mint 8 Released

I'm not sure what kind of restricted driver or library would be required for that, to be honest. All that should require is for Wine to be installed, unless there's something else I'm missing. That aside, my experience with audio players like foobar2000 has never been ideal (I -do- use foobar as...

    SiSoftware Releases SANDRA 2010

I gave it a quick test before I posted this, and I'm not sure what to think. A lot of the performance has to do with the driver, not the card alone, and on the ATI card I tested on, the performance from OpenCL was far less than what I got with STREAM. Honestly, I'm not quite sure whether this is...

Intel's Gulftown Reviewed Months Prior to Launch

I expected that to happen, but I don't blame them for publishing it. The traffic they got from that article is probably more than most launch articles of the same processor are going to get, unfortunately.

    ASUS' P55 Boards Don't Degrade PCI-E Performance for S-ATA/USB 3.0

It comes down to what's more important... a 500MB/s S-ATA 3.0 lane or a PCI-E 16x slot degraded to 8x. I'm willing to take the first over the latter, because no drives out there right now exceed that bandwidth. It's too bad Intel's chipsets won't be fixing this issue anytime soon.

    Apple Releases iTunes LP SDK

Whoa, seriously? You mean the 3G map came from AT&T's site? If so, that's ridiculous... it's a good thing that the judge told them to basically quit their whining. I'm glad that's how it played out. Sure, Verizon might have used the map in such a way that it would mislead some people, but they...

Smoking Around Apple Computers May Void Warranty

If that's true, then that settles it right there. But, if a PC is sent into Apple, someone has to work on it, else Apple would have to deal with some legalities I'm sure.

Running Blu Ray on my Customized Dell Dimension 3000

Hi Kawika and welcome to the forums :-) Unfortunately, it does sound like the processor could be the bottleneck, although I can't verify that since I haven't tested it out myself. But Blu-ray movies are quite CPU-intensive, and given that your P4 2.4GHz would be about five-years-old, it kind of...

    Gigabyte P55A-UD4P

Ugh, that's insane. It seems to be limited to "extreme" overclocks, so at least it shouldn't affect the vast majority of people who are using P55.

    Quick-Gage: Kingston 16GB DataTraveler Locker+

That's absolutely true. I borrowed my mom's thumb drive a couple of weeks ago to get something off, and she even had a virus on that. I cleaned it out for her and told her about it, but it's hard to prevent it from happening if people keep downloading things without thinking about it. Nowadays...

Psystar Settles with Apple, Allowed to Sell "Open" Computers

From our front-page news: As 2009 draws to a close, I'd have to say that of all the big tech news stories to happen over the past year, the back and forth between Psystar and Apple has got to be one of the most interesting. It all started back in April when the company announced that its Mac...

Intel's Larrabee Computational Performance Beats Out Competition

From our front-page news: When Intel first announced its plans to launch its own discrete graphics card, Larrabee, it seemed like everyone had an opinion. If you talked to a company such as AMD or NVIDIA, laughter, doubt, and more laughter was sure to come about. The problem, of course, is that...

Car and Driver Announces "Best10" for 2010

From our front-page news: Each year, the well-respected Car and Driver magazine holds a "10Best" competition, where the editors get together and discuss which models deserve to be in the top ten for the year, based on various criteria. The cars don't have to be ultra-expensive in order to place...

Intel Issues X25-M G2 Firmware Update

From our front-page news:In late October, Intel released both a new firmware upgrade and SSD Toolbox, which enabled TRIM support on its G2 X25-M solid-state disks. Due to a data corruption bug, however, the firmware was pulled off its support site within days, and those who didn't already...

    Quick-Gage: Kingston 16GB DataTraveler Locker+

It may seem like a given that personal data should be kept secure, and for the most part, achieving that goal on a home PC isn't too difficult. But, what about a thumb drive? Kingston's DataTraveler Locker+ is designed in such a way that if someone ever finds your thumb drive, they'll never be...

    Apple Releases iTunes LP SDK

That's nuts. I say once again... Apple is in the news more for bad things lately than good. What a turn-around. You used to be hard-pressed to find a "bad" story about the company, but lately, there's a new one every other week.
