Are You Upgrading to Windows 7?

I am considering going right to Windows 7 for the new i7 build ... contingent on my analysis software support guys' opinion. I have to start the build now because (my) business just got "flicked" on again. It is as if my customer's customers are trying to catch up with everything that was...

    water cooling

Noticing the core temps ... I wonder what your water temperature gets to with the cores at 83c? The Sidewinder tubing specs for lab grade tubing show a max operating temp of 74c. Well, that is at 10 PSI ... I don't think these systems get anywhere near that although I don't have any feeling for...

    water cooling

HEATKILLER® CPU Rev3.0 1366 is now available. I had the site send a "back in stock" email & received that yesterday. I didn't actually expect to hear anything for a few weeks. I have never done business with much less heard of Sidewinder before but resellerratings made them look pretty good. Not...

Are You Upgrading to Windows 7?

So an eager "friend" passed this along ... "So, I decided to throw caution to the wind and upgrade from the Windows 7 RC to the RTM Home Premium. This is, of course, not supported, but since I don't feel like going back to Vista just so I cam upgrade to the RTM, I decided to do two registry...

Apple's Pricing Premiums Never Cease to Impress

HAHAHA ... we can't get past this 1 item without getting flamed Seriously, I cannot imagine how that could be done w/o really making a lot of people cranky-er. Take the iPhone & compare it to what? Another phone takes forever to turn on? Ugh! I swear my next cell phone will be completely...

    Building an Affordable "Skulltrail" System

That is a "Universal 64 bit PCI card". I have to punt with this ... I don't understand why the card does not at least show up as some mystery device without a driver. In Device Manager, right click on any component & select "Scan for Hardware Changes" to see if it shows up. I am also...

Apple's Pricing Premiums Never Cease to Impress

Almost 1200 off topic words are at the top of that answer. Your point got lost in the forest ... as in, "can't find the forest for the trees... ". My read on this & with a bit of the auto theme, is that this iMac is a product atypical of the undeniable and expected Apple creativity and...

Apple's Pricing Premiums Never Cease to Impress

MacMan ... you sound like too many Apple users I know. You sound as if your 1st born works for them. It is just a computer. I know. I have been there & consulted for them and ... and ... and even eaten sushi in their cafeteria at 1 Infinite Loop, Cupertino. And, it was great. Although, oddly...

Re-eally!? I can't disagree with you, but doesn't that seem a bit inconsistent? And, you read me right, I will be water cooling a-a-and OC-ing ... they have served me sufficiently well when I needed the most oomph. It is only later that it becomes a PITA.:(

Are You Upgrading to Windows 7?

looking forward to 7 But I will probably wait for at least the 1st service pack. My son is all over it & figured out to get a couple of upgrades & a full install ... for himself & he is in Florida. Thank you! NOT! Of course he has been a happy user of Vista. So take this in context. He is also...

I don't mean the the board might skewed or off horizontal depending on how you mean that, but there may be a little wiggle room if the mother board hold down screws are loosened a bit. Not removed, you don't need to rebuild this. I am thinking that you might be able to slide the mother board...

mmm uh mmm uh .... respectively 2Tired ... ... and I do not like to wantonly pi$$ money away, but I have to take issue with "being just as good". I have to see some tests before I caress my $300 or $1000 CPU with baby butt creme. I have to add that too many of the reviewers have a lot of...

    Building an Affordable "Skulltrail" System

I drilled out to your sound card's web page & see "Available PCI 2.1 compliant slot (PCI 2.2 and 2.3 also supported)" Most of what I think remember about PCI 2.x is keying for different voltage cards ... 3.3V & 5 V. Soooo, since I cannot quite tell about the notches in the card edge, I have...

you mean similar to baby butt creme! HA! zinc oxide, I believe. I have looked at that back when I had real jobs & worked in a research dept. The stuff we looked at is not the same formulation. BUTT we also never actually gave it the ... smoke test. I also re-use the stuff.

... Thermal Interface Material. Indigo Xtreme for Intel Core i7 Processors seems to be THE stuff. Although this guy's review is almost more impressive for a substance that I considered Artic Silver 5 to be as good as any. (Talk not about not having a life!) $20 seems quite expensive...

CPU cooling solution maintenance ... rant

I just saw these today with a professional shef friend of mine Scotchbrite griddle cleaning screens. They seem to come in brown only, but they are perfect screens, 4" x 5 3/4". I never would have noticed them had this not come up in the thread.
