    ASUS P6X58D Premium

This is a good board. I have been running it since Dec' 09 & OC-ed to almost 4.5 GHz.

The Five Missing iPad Accessories After considerable contemplation, I decided not to start a new thread for this

    Early Videogame Buzz at E3

From my online edition of IEEE Spectrum is a little of what I am starting to see about E3

Vuvuzela... there's an app for that?!

It can be filtered out with software although the graphic equalizer mention later in this article seems a little more down to earth than Surfpoeten

The Games I Keep Going Back To

Kind of sick what overclocking an i7-980X can do

hmmm ... 4.5 GHz ... despite a naysayer software support manager for software I live & die in, I'll get one of these with the next serious project that comes in. Of course those guys only know stock Dell workstations that still throttle down when that software is run on them.

    Powerline vs ethernet cable wiring

Can it pass thru the breaker box or must the devices be on the same circuit?

"Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely."

I just got around to reading this thread. I am a connector guy, meaning that I analyze via software, all kinds of connectors for a living. Typically for high frequency & wide bandwidth, but analysis of current carrying capacity versus temperature rise does occur (DC in other words). That said...

    SMP limited by memory controller

I am guilty of trying to bait someone to prove to me the opposing point of view (which I do not actually agree with). Meaning that you and I are in agreement! Thanks in advance for your indulgence and I don't mean to offend. :o I'll follow up with the link as well as anything else I find out...

Intel Anaphase - Single Thread Acceleration on Multiple Cores

There is so much to comprehend with this that it makes my head hurt. I have read thru the post, and I know how to read English ... but, ugh ... the words are not fitting together very well in my head. This takes the right frame of mind to understand. I see blah blah blah single threaded apps run...

    SMP limited by memory controller

I saw that paragraph & re-read it a few times. And, I am *not* arguing against your reasoning or point of view or opinion ... different, eh?? In fact I share all of that with you ... meaning "I agree"? But this does not make it proof positive, beyond a shadow of a doubt, or even irrefutable...

    Suggestions for watercooling setup!

You have to understand that *we* think thru things. A whole new-ish collection of parts takes a bit to digest. From my own profile, you can tell that I prefer & decided on the XT water block. This was after several net searches for the "best". Even if that only means a few tenths of a degree...

    SMP limited by memory controller

In this link, Figure 7 description at the bottom of the page, "The Symmetric Multiprocessor Architecture (SMP) results in performance bottlenecks owing to the shared memory controller hub." And, the paragraph above it describes it slightly better. The same company has a Frequency Domain (FD)...

    SMP limited by memory controller

Thanks, Rob. I have been struggling with this issue for over a year. I did not believe it & thought that they were just trying to figure out a way to charge more for the software. BUT, I have finally bought into it. This link about FDTD (finite difference time domain) from a different company...

    SMP limited by memory controller

I have been teetering for the past few weeks about buying a i7 980X. This response from support of one of the programs I use kind of spoiled the notion. The software is actually a collection of various "solvers" which are all multi-threaded number-crunchers. They can run from minutes to days...

    Awake during surgery? It happens!

I am no Spartan nor into pain in any weird way, but I have had teeth drilled for cavities and surgery performed on my hands while "mostly conscious" & could give feed back to the surgeon. Sponge Bob, as he was known, did tell me not to tell jokes as that was distracting the surgeon (him)...

Want to Print Out 3D Objects? HP Has a Printer For You!

hmm hmm hmm ... this does take things quite a bit past the sonograms (that I could never interpret other than "uh ok"). On the other hand, would your son/daughter think of it (the 3D model of themselves at T minus 3 months) a cool thing to take to show & tell? I wonder?

    The Sleeper

You reminded me that I wanted to get the GSkill RAM cooler ... 2 just arrived from 'egg. Bit of a pain slipping it under the bundle of wires already in place, but an opportunity to blow the dust out. Nice looking build. What TIM is under that XT?
