That build does this ... and was sooo easy to OC ... I think that says 4514 MHz

    new build 2.0

pix This pictures are taken with my Samsung focus Windows phone. It is ok but takes more adjusting (& patience) than a digital SLR to get reasonable shots. Anyway, I decided to run the fans push-pull. I did some minor experimenting with the air flow thru the radiator with one pair of fans...

File Transfers Over 1Gbit/s Ethernet: SSD vs. HDD

I think this is great stuff and affects everyone that has at least 2 computers. I do game, not nearly as much as I used to or would like ... I prefer FPS & used to get into multi-player across our network. That was back when I had a real job & the home system was ... well, a home...

    new build 2.0

Hmmm ... called me out. I thought I might get away with "blogging". Ok, I'll work on the pics.

    new build 2.0

it is working ... ... really well.:D At stock, the CPU seems to barely rise 15 deg F ... 20 deg F is idle. BUT I am still getting gathering myself & updating burn in & related programs. So stay tuned.

    new build 2.0

My "Grief" comment is from the thought of how long it would take to defrag or back it up. I am running in IDE. I guess I won't care to hit the "compressed" option under Windows for the drive.

    new build 2.0

So I have a 1.5 TB HDD, so what? Grief. Well the other 1 TB HDD is a Hitachi & is pretty slow. I guess it is time to investigate Rob's recommendation of Diskeeper 11.

    GPGPUs?

I bought the extended warranty. 1st time in years! Wouldn't it be interesting to know how a small error might manifest itself? Yesterday I found & immediately lost, a "commentary" stating that the trimmed back Teslas (versus something like the GTX 580s) are a result of extensive 24X7 testing...

WD Acronis True Image WD Edition Software

Good to know. No AHCI in this case. Earlier today when I was going to install the Acronis software on the old machine, I realized that HDD was not WD. It is Hitachi. The software complaint that at least one of the drives must be WD ... ok, I can deal with that & wait for UPS.

WD Acronis True Image WD Edition Software

I have a new WD drive coming in for a new build that is basically a clone of an older system with almost identical h/w. The older system is an i7-920 e/w 12 GB RAM; the new system is an i7-990X e/w 24 GB RAM ... the mother boards are the same, ASUS P6X58D Premium. The new box needs to have...

    GPGPUs?

I ordered a C2070 ... uhnnn ... Found a site that sells it for somewhat less than $3K. I lost a few night's sleep over it then did it on a Friday night. That way I had the rest of the weekend to think about it & cancel if I got cold feet ... didn't happen. I have seen that ECC can be...

    new build 2.0

HDD is DOA Western Digital VelociRaptor WD4500HLHX from Newegg. I read the more recent reviews of the drive & apparently read errors are the killer. After installing W7 & doing 69 MS updates twice because of system hangs, I downloaded WD's HDD diagnostic tool. It reports several read errors &...

    new build 2.0

Note to self, don't be so tight as to not notice that you have a CD drive ... not a DVD drive which is necessary to load the new W7 OS.:o Of course having the old XP OS "CD" still in that CD reader I would normally just load it (who knew?). I do have new W7, I guess I'll just borrow the DVD...

    GPGPUs?

Is anyone here into this in someway? I have gotten interested in Nvidia's Tesla C2070 of late. But there is a strong suggestion that 2 or 3 GTX 580s could be faster. There is a German company Gainward that has announced a 3GB version. So a pair of those linked via SLi? equals 6 GB? How do...

    new build 2.0

This the 4th WC system I have built. Include in there maintenance & tubing replacement over the years. So not sure why I am having any problems with this one other than distraction or someone slipped some stupid pills in my cocktails:o I have always wanted one of those Ty Wrap guns. The real...

    new build 2.0

The system actually had 4 leaky fittings. I didn't tighten anything very well this time.:o:mad: When building the i7-920, there were no leaky fittings & all of the fittings & tubing are identical. I also used Teflon plumber's tape but only went around once with a slight overlap. On the other...

    I think I need a full-tower...

Suddenly it is clear why I hang onto the old beige boxes ... I can't get outside of my comfort zone!!!! I need guidance ... but I will be argumentative:mad: :o

    I think I need a full-tower...

I do like the cable routing holes to help keep them out of the way. And the 3 140 mm fans

    I think I need a full-tower...

Hmmm, I don't like how things are compartmentalized internally ... because of WC routing & even air flow. This Lian Li is very roomy & would be easy to work in. I wish I had 4 of those babies! But, grief $500 ... I will stick with the old beige boxes for a bit longer.
