    Sweet Website!

As with most games, they tend to vary between being CPU dependant and GPU dependant according to the level... it fluctuates. For the second link, Anandtech used the CPU dependant benchmark for Crysis... not the GPU dependant benchmark. The Crysis benching utility offers both options. As...

    Overclocking and Data Corruption?

Overclocking via the BIOS is definitely best, so really you wouldn't have to mess with finding a software overclocking utility at all. That motherboard has plenty of reviews out there, they seem to like the overclocking potential with it...

Looking for a new hard drive

Seagates are pretty good, I can't hear mine seeking unless they are outside the case. Samsung is supposed to make the quietest drives, but the drawback is performance takes a slight hit. If you want to compare prices, just divide the capacity by the price. The Samsung would be cheaper at...

New soundcard/speakers combo - advice wanted

It looks like Newegg now has the ASUS Xonar DX listed for $89. Supposed to be the budget PCIe 1x version of the original Xonar, but I don't know the actual differences between them.

Intel's Latest Tech to Help Decrease Notebook Theft (Hopefully)

I guess I should of said something to them in hindsight. My laptop even gave me a message about wanting to link up to the WRT54G router they were using as a PNP device. I currently use the WRT54GS, same router and I know it supports Personal / Enterprise modes of WPA and WPA2 along with 128-bit...

My seagate freeagent can´t be found by the computer.

Doob, it would probably ruin your warranty but you can take the hard drive out of the thing, and plug it directly into a SATA port on your motherboard. With any luck it will work for you if the drive controller in the external box is somehow bad... but if the problem is indeed the motor for...

    FS: Refurbished/New Dell 2007WFP

Holy smokes, that's a hell of a deal. I guess this is the non-HC version as this isn't mentioned? If I didn't already have a 2407 A03 I'd jump on this!

$400 PS3 SKU Rumored for Holidays

Yes, but Sony has created a ton of confusion about this. Around half the general public believe the 40GB PS3 offers software emulation. That more than anything is what I don't like. They could of done a much much better job clarifying that for their customers.

Is Gentoo Linux 2008.0 Ever Going to See the Light of Day?

Oh I wasn't trying to be negative about linux, I just found my first real foray with it to be highly amusing. I'd definitely fall within the new user category that doesn't understand how things work... it was eaiser for me to use a linux bootloader and set up and install Red Hat 9 alongside...

Do you keep your PC overclocked?

If I have a machine on, then it is folding. Even during gaming I leave four instances of F@H running in the background. I don't often do benchmarks, but when I do I certainly want that overclock to edge up the scores... I always keep it overclocked, especially since I can leave it at stock...

First timer GPU aftermarket cooling installation questions

Just a thought, but isn't it a bad idea to apply the compound, mount the cooler, then take the cooler off to double check it is spread correctly? This would trap some air bubbles in the thermal compound when it gets remounted... unless you meant that you also clean off everything yet again and...

    New Build 4/4/08

Very nice, I bet the change blew ya away! I upgraded from a similar era system (Northwood P4) to an E6300... except you got a absurd upgrade on your GPU's performance as well. :D Remember the monitor is the biggest investment for a computer, they tend to outlast the computer so be sure you...

    Worse performance on an overclock?

According to Intel, running a 45nm chip at 1.45v is the same as running a 65nm chip at 1.55v. 1.4 should be fine for the vast majority of users, as long as temps are kept down of course. There is one very Mad Madshrimp that pumped ~1.7v into his... it still works although I won't claim to...

Intel's Latest Tech to Help Decrease Notebook Theft (Hopefully)

Heh, off topic but speaking of WEP... just got some work done on my car. Large GM dealership, and a very good/nice one at that. They provide customer WIFI. Off chance I brought my laptop incase they had any... after signing a waiver they gave me the code to use it. Turned out it was only WEP...

Is Gentoo Linux 2008.0 Ever Going to See the Light of Day?

Fedora? Is that a direct decendant of Red Hat 9? I may just have a talent for finding software glitches, bugs, and general problems... but it didn't take me very long to completely crash Red Hat 9 from the log-in screen when attempting to log into the main or secondary accounts. Only the...

Creative: Doing Little to Please Consumers

Yeah, you have a good point here. NVIDIA has had way to many issues that Intel chipsets didn't, such as the aforementioned 65nm Quads + 4GB RAM combos that couldn't work right due to chipset or mainboard design, or the 45nm Quad issue. There was a reason after all they extremely quickly dumped...

    Modding the House

If you are going that far, might want to add another one inside the two larger main rooms? I've seen (and personally had, when I was growing up) a house broken into that had an alarm system on the garage and both front/back doors. They came in from a window instead, and took their sweet time...

$400 PS3 SKU Rumored for Holidays

Assuming you buy the correct PS3... I can sort of understand their decision to remove the hardware and just do it in software, especially if most things work as they should. I think they went to far with outright breaking backwards compatibility with the 40GB PS3 though, that one doesn't even...

    Not bad speeds

Yipe... may be nearly identical but even TWC doesn't cost $100! More like $55... the above speeds I gave for AT&T's Uverse were $45, assuming their price doesn't have any extra fees added onto it. And also assuming you are already paying for their TV service... they don't offer it as a...
