    USB issue

I've heard of this... it could mean you have to many USB devices drawing to much current through your USB bus, or if you have nothing else plugged into the USB ports then the USB ports themselves are going out. Wouldn't hurt to try the mouse/keyboard in a different computer just to rule them...

    Cuil Taking Down Some Websites?

Hm, this might just explain the odd viewcount issues we have been getting on our website... it's typical the 1st page of any article gets the most hits by far, but as of late our numbers were just beyond the absurd mark, but only for the first page. Had to be a bot of some kind...

NVIDIA to Enable SLI on Select X58-based Motherboards

Ohh, I now understand what you are saying. I was thinking the inverse, the pins in the slot itself. Oops. The thing is, take a close look at those PCIe 16x slots that only can operate at 8x electrically, max. If you look real closely you will notice half of the pins inside the slot are not...

NVIDIA to Enable SLI on Select X58-based Motherboards

Ah, I assumed ya knew! :) Biggest advantage to PCIe over AGP is that the PCIe standard is 100% interchangeable. I can run my ASUS Xonar PCIe 1x card in ANY PCIe express slot. 16x, or 1x, or anything in-between. If I plug it into a 16x slot it will run at 1x, as designed. Same goes...

NVIDIA to Enable SLI on Select X58-based Motherboards

That is the thousand dollar question. One site reported yes (IIRC it was TweakTown) but other sites have disproven it. Generally, it is safe to say there is a great deal of confusion about this, partly because of PCIe 2.0 muddling the issue. There are two full PCIe slots... not sure if they...

    Now HERE'S a shipment...

That... is simply astounding. If those are normal 7200RPM drives, it probably cost Seagate more to ship that thing then it did to build all of the drives in total. I bet your cat secretly ordered a few extra things and had it discreetly hidden in your HDD order. It's the only logical...

NVIDIA to Enable SLI on Select X58-based Motherboards

Yep, that is the board! Now look closely at those two PCIe 4x slots... notice that Gigabyte chopped off the ends and left them open-ended? You can plug any card, PCIe 16x or whichever you please into them. It doesn't matter because those are only electrically x4 slots regardless... 32...

NVIDIA to Enable SLI on Select X58-based Motherboards

Yeah, I did give up keeping track of "who started it", far as I'm concerned both parties deserve equal blame for perpetuating it! A little off topic, but I really can't wait for a X58 board. P35 is great and 16x+4x PCIe slots seems fine for dual GPU use... But when you realize the hard way...

NVIDIA to Enable SLI on Select X58-based Motherboards

Well, isn't Intel the one not giving NVIDIA a license to build QPI logic for Intel processors? Although it is interesting that NVIDIA will be able (and stated they intend) to build Lynnfield / LGA1160 platforms late next year. With that much time to build a new, IMC-less chipset they at...

NVIDIA to Enable SLI on Select X58-based Motherboards

It's good to see NVIDIA isn't so completely self-centered that they will acknowledge and actually listen to common sense. If they hadn't done this then ATI would have been guaranteed a majority share of the most lucrative multi-GPU markets and a larger slice of NVIDIA's shrinking pie. To...

    Lucid HYDRA Engine Multi-GPU Technology

ATI/AMD can't afford to buy diddly right now. Their credit rating & asset-to-liabilities ratio are both poor so they couldn't even if they wanted to. NVIDIA just got suckerpunched with a loss out of what was supposed to be a very profitable quarter for them, but they could still easily...

    Lucid HYDRA Engine Multi-GPU Technology

It's one of those too good to be true things . Theoretically I don't know of a single reason it shouldn't work, but attempting to get everything to work smoothly with such good scaling would take a massive amount of work or some very smart/innovative software/hardware tricks. Lucid needs to...

    Samsung YP-K3 2GB MP3 Player

Am I correct in that you can't remove the battery from that player? I'd try removing the battery and trying a different computer, but honestly it sounds like the flash memory or something else in the device failed.

    Reader's Rig Photo Gallery

Looks good, I like how the CPU fan is still in place over the block! Just to defend watercooling's good name and give you a comparison: at full CPU load + GPU load, my CPU temps are between 50-55c just now (according to Realtemp). They would be lower without the overclocked GTX 260 in the...

    More Details on Overclocking Nehalem

Well, it was a smart idea yes, but from the way I read it the PCU was a requirement to ensure the silicon could maintain current 3GHz frequencies. Changing from domino dynamic logic gates back to the static CMOS gates used in late 80's microchips would have impacted the attainable frequencies...

What Do You Use to Listen?

While reading/typing, currently listening to: http://www.last.fm/music/Jonathan+Elias?autostart=1 Well, up till a little while ago I used HD Azalia courtesy of AC97... which surprisingly or not offered a tangible audio difference over the AC97 setup on my first Abit IS7 motherboard. I use...

    D-Link Xtreme N DIR-655 Wireless Router

It sounds to me like it is a firmware/ settings compatibility thing going on here. When you update firmware, things get changed. Attempting to use a settings profile from a different firmware can lead to problems if the settings being changed no longer apply to the latest firmware. The same...
