Steam's Hardware Survey Gets More In-Depth

I don't think it is a limitation, but I'm not completely sure on that one. I'd have thought the OS would independantly know, but then again that was the problem in a nutshell with 32bit OS's so I'm not sure. They probably didn't include it because to them the data would be useless. They will...

OCZ Releases Throttle eSATA-based Thumb Drive

Pretty sure there isn't any difference between them, the eSATA spec appears to call for shielding and significantly more durability, but I don't see any special hot-plugging features not already included in the SATA spec. eSATA is just an external SATA port.. if you look at those...

Steam's Hardware Survey Gets More In-Depth

I am surprised by the almost 46% of users using a DX10 GPU. I am also surprised at how level the number of users using DX8 or lower is, it's a flatline 15%. There are modern DX10 GPUs for AGP that exist, so the cost of a PCIe system isn't the only holdback. Gotta love all that detail. I have...

OCZ Releases Throttle eSATA-based Thumb Drive

Something that I only just now realized... to use this drive, wouldn't most computers need to be rebooted with the drive plugged in? Only Vista, and only computers using ACHI selected in the BIOS support hot-plugging of SATA drives.

    spdif/analog to reciever input

As far as I know any high end soundcard would support both at once, like the ASUS Xonar D2X. The cheaper DX version would not because the S/PDIF also doubles as one of the analog ports though.

    Nothing's working???

You might try placing the GPU into a different PCIe slot but I don't expect that to do anything. I would suggest installing a different GPU to boot the system from, and once you've verified the system works fine you should contact MSI to get support for your card. Unlike most motherboards, most...

    Fusion-io's Ultra-Fast PCI-E Solid-State Disk Tested

Yeah, I'd wonder about that value for money award, unless their awards are meant to be humorous. ;) Unfortunately I don't read Tweaktown much anymore. One to many erroneous articles that weren't fully hashed out.

Nintendo Stomps the Competition with November Sales

I just read one article that stated the Xbox 360's ATI R500 graphics chip is the equivalent to an x800 XT crossed with the features of an x1800. Trying to compare one of those to an HD 4870 just seems incredibly crazy... So really if you think about it, any console's GPU isn't really all that...

School Teacher has Linux ALL Wrong

Good god, is all I can say. If she was a professional teacher in the very least you would expect her to research the matter before going to such lengths. and discover the falsehoods of her statements pretty quickly. Instead she apparently believes she has no need to research this (or likely any...

Taking a Closer Look at Intel's Core i7-940

Man you're too fast, I was going to mention this one here. ;) That's always the risk though, I assumed they had corrected all the uncore, bus, memory, and any other related clockspeeds for the simulated chip. It was nice when only AMD processors had these kinds of headaches, but now Intel...

Putting Cash to Good Use: Toys for Tots Fundraiser

I don't remember who, but someone did something like this a year ago? Anyway, in for a penny in for a pound. Thanks for the heads up :)

Intel Core i5 Loses QPI and Triple-Channel Memory Controller

Heh, now everyone is calling it i5 is it? Looks like the good same old info that's been out there but in neat summation. Dual-channel and the new PCIe 2.0 specc'd DMI bus should actually make for a pretty powerful system... There were some questions about the old PCIe 1.1 bus bottlenecking...

    IntelBurnTest vs. SP 2004

Well, I still get incessent VIsta problems anyway, so I figured it only played a minor role in them... For example Tuesday I rebuilt the PC outside the case to test air coolers.... changed the PSU, GPU, CPU coolers, and CPU overclock... Halways through testing Vista booted up and said the...

    IntelBurnTest vs. SP 2004

Well, 1.20V @ 3.2GHz on my Q6600 seemed completely stable. In fact I used that overclock for almost a year before IntelBurn even came out. Nothing seemed to indicate the system wasn't fully stable and I loved the low temperatures/power consumption... but then IntelBurn had to go and ruin things...

    Cooling an OC'd E8400@ 4.0GHz

Okay, so what was the cooler and ambient room temp then, out of curiosity? It is just a passing thought, but have you checked the IHS on that chip to make sure it was 100% flat? My Q6600 is that way, the IHS is slightly concave so the four corners tend to make sure the cooler doesn't make as...

    ATI HD 4870 1GB vs. NVIDIA GTX 260/216 896MB: Follow-Up

ATI Tool is the one that is defunct, it hasn't seen a major upgrade in two years IIRC. ATI Tray Tools on the other hand is actively developed, although it doesn't offer anything like Rivatuner or an artifact scanner like ATI Tool did. Regarding the logo and slogans, I do know companies that...

OCZ Releases Throttle eSATA-based Thumb Drive

I had thought it was the same memory chips as what goes into SSDs, just a much slower version? So theoretically some day we'll have thumb drives that run circles around mechanical hard drives., even if they still aren't as large a capacity. Again you're right though, the controller chip would...

    IntelBurnTest vs. SP 2004

Ahah, I was wondering when you would mention this program again... I noticed a certain person was given thanks in AgentGod's readme for helping make IntelBurn Core i7 compatible with their new 1.9 verison. ;) So, thank you Rob! I appreciate you helping with his software, especially for whenever...

Bopaboo Offers Place to Sell "Used" Digital Music... Seriously

Selling used software via physical media is allowed, it goes on at ebay daily. It's when people attempt to sell digital software there that things are really hit and miss... but people do sell online downloads to software there. You are exactly right, it is impossible to know. And duplicating...

OCZ Releases Throttle eSATA-based Thumb Drive

Well, I assume flash drives intentionally use extremely low bin grade memory chips. The lower the bin the lower the performance, but the cheaper the cost. So they wouldn't want to be buying anything capable of speeds >36MB/s... But you would be right. They can probably just buy higher bin...
