Nintendo Stomps the Competition with November Sales

Well I would agree with the IGN link that stated the Wii is more powerful than the original Xbox... but definitely less powerful than the 360 or PS3. As Rob said 480p is an incredibly low resolution for the GPU to have to handle. This alone causes plenty of Aliasing issues on the Wii, as...

Can Apple Customers Still Feel Special?

The only thing Apple has left is their brand name image. They make 31% of their revenue from Macs, 40% from iPhones, and just ~14% from anything with iPod in the name. Even less from their iTunes store. LINK So, Apple doesn't have a core business or core product anymore. And during all of...

Apple Announces its Last Year at Macworld

Nope, I didn't actually know that! I had just (wrongly) assumed... :) However, I do remember some articles mentioning the price tag of Apple attending Macworld was probably in the millions. If that is just for a large booth at the show and not the entire show, then it makes even more sense...

Intel Contest: Tell Us YOUR Processor Story and Win!

Actaully that was a really basic guess. If I had realized a few things I would have guessed even higher and might've made it! Intel made a bunch of headlines about "shipping 100,000 45nm CPUs a day" earlier this year... I simply used that as my starting figure, and after I had trouble...

abit to Close its Doors on December 31

Well, I'm not sure it was a "great" story, but everyone remembers where they got their start on with their hobby... If I hadn't had so many issues with my Compaq OEM during high school I'd never have jumped off the cliff and built my first PC; I didn't know anything about building a computer...

Want Scientology Training? Get a Job at Diskeeper!

Yeah, stuff like this just scares me some times... I'm not going to support a company that does that to their employees... free choice is one thing, but that is just absurd.

Oh, how far $80 can stretch...

Oh wow, that's a great catch. It supports SSE3 and SSSE3, but not Penryn's SSE4....

Nintendo Stomps the Competition with November Sales

Not to pick on you Madstork, but I gotta agree with Rob on this one. The Wii uses almost an identical GPU as in the GameCube. It's a surprisingly small specced chip, no official details exist but supposedly it is a 243MHz clocked chip with ~30MB of various memory onboard. And the CPU is just an...

abit to Close its Doors on December 31

Abit did have two or three X58 motherboards that were photographed, so I was hesitant to believe they were closing up shop. However, it was pointed out that Abit closed down their own support forums just recently... With the lack of any Abit X58 boards having hit the shelves and the closure...

Sapphire's Atomic HD 4870 X2 Water-Cools both GPU and CPU

I would go out on a limb and say that a surprisingly large portion of case buyers could mount a 2x120 rad... The kind of enthusiast that buys a watercooled 4870 X2 is likely going to have a high-end case, and most cases $150 and up will more likely than not fit one. Even the HAF-932 can...

Apple Announces its Last Year at Macworld

According to their site they attend quite a few trade shows, everything from consumer electronics to electronic publishing such as Seybold. Apple won 8 of 9 attempted awards at this last CeBit...

Intel Contest: Tell Us YOUR Processor Story and Win!

Intel announced the winner for the transistor count contest... 19,914,946,000,000,000. I was damn close with 16.2 quadrillion, but I think I came in third or fourth... Going by that number, Intel has shipped more than 125,000 45nm CPUs per day, with at least 1/3rd of them being quads, within...

    Comments/Suggestons on Proposed I7 Build

GTX 260 Core 216 verses 4870 1GB is a pretty even matchup, price and things like the warranty would be what I'd look at as they are pretty close. Keep in mind newer 55nm versions of the GTX 260 are due soon and should be near or about the same price. The rest of your setup looks pretty good...

Oh, how far $80 can stretch...

Very interesting results, and one impressive showing from such a cheap processor! That's some nice overclocking ya got :) THe E5200 is a Wolfdale chip, it has all the SSE4 instructions, with the exception of the few additional SSE4.2 (~7) that came with Core i7?

Apple Announces its Last Year at Macworld

For an organization like Intel, I'd say they were mandatory. Although having one every few months in a different country is still way too excessive... But for Apple, I would agree they don't really need their own tradeshow much less several per year. There are plenty of ways to announce new...

Sapphire's Atomic HD 4870 X2 Water-Cools both GPU and CPU

Still significantly more surface area and better distribution of heat than compared to the original OEM cooler, should be a nice boost. I'm sure a 2x120 rad would drops the temps much lower though, if the pump/block are decent quality.

    Nothing's working???

Unless your wife's PC uses an integrated GPU or a PCI GPU, then that is likely not going to be an option. If her machine uses a PCIe slot (Your 3870 is a PCIe slot card), then it will need two of them and you should be aware that if not done correctly attempting this has the potential to flash...

    Wacom Bamboo Fun Tablet

If the cursor is twitching/jerking on its own, then it might be signal interference. A friend of mine had this issue with her old wacom after she moved... bought a new one, same problem. Finally a friend of hers brought their own tablet to her place, and it started giving the same symptoms. This...

    spdif/analog to reciever input

I don't have the ability to test it out personally, sorry. There shouldn't be any issue with Vista however, it is the sound drivers that will control ports. Best I can tell all you need to do is select the correct channel mode and port setup. Rob or Rory should be able to confirm this or not...

Windows XP - The OS that Just Won't Die

I gotta disagree here, sorry. I would agree with you for the majority of desktop Vista systems.... but for laptops, this is completely untrue. Vista runs like [insert vulgar expletive here] on any kind of non-DTR laptop and doesn't run at all on many netbooks. Unfortunately this is where Dell...
