Building a new computer would like some advice

Wow, leave for a day and see the hornet's nest I stirred up. These were my assumptions, I can hedge a bet here since I've been right once or twice in the past. I said don't do water because the first one is difficult and since he posted I was able to figure out that this was his first build...

    Coloring coolant

I looked up 'blood of my neighbors' and the FBI came knocking. You have a link for Feser? I' going to do the stealth look of all flat black and then go UV something. Primo had a black I just wonder if the black / UV blue is any good.

I would assume that you do, no one knows of a home-made formula that will do the same thing, that's the idea here.

    Noctua Fan

How nice is a $34 fan Merlin? I got a nice Tt for like $15 with a variable rheostat and an option to engage a temp probe for auto speed. Quiet on low and I've never had to turn it up, aside from seeing how much noise it will make.

Building a new computer would like some advice

If this is your first build, as you stated, I would stay away from RAID. Don't worry about doing it now. One day down the line when you understand how it really works and you have a second computer to play with and can have it down and in pieces to experiment with, then I would suggest trying...

    Coloring coolant

Any good ways to color coolant for looks? I would rather not spend any money on 16oz bottles of coolant but do it myself. Would a food coloring work without staining the vinyl tubing? It will make a big mess if it even spills so how about some other ideas, black would be best.

It's usually a restart from installation. It's a new build, didn't you see my photo under "Reader's Rigs"?

Is it christmas yet? I know this isn't safe or whatever but it runs fine. It is a mess but it gets plenty of air! How about another free case contest for the poor guy that needs one...

    My rig is overheating lately...

While you have if off, blow clean air through it to get the dust off the fan and out of the heat exchanger.

Western Digital Unleashes the Fierce VelociRaptor VR150

This is the ATA-133 2x250gb raid 0 that I have now. It's not too bad for being a 4 year old system. HD Tune: ALiATA RAID0 der_RAID Benchmark Transfer Rate Minimum : 50.9 MB/sec Transfer Rate Maximum : 82.3 MB/sec Transfer Rate Average : 76.2 MB/sec Access Time : 13.9 ms Burst...

I've been eyeing that Tagan Black Pearl but at $250 it's a bit more than I want to spend and the Antec 182 seems like another top notch case. Newegg has it listed at 170 but once again Directron has impressed me again.

Seagate Savvio 15K - Next Gen Enterprise Drive?

Reading all of this I came to think of a something someone told me about a stand-alone RAID card. It was able, once it was built, to incorporate additional drives. It was quite a few years ago and I can't think of anything else. If you use 0, the array is fixed and another drive cannot be...

Super Talent Releases (Somewhat) Affordable SSD Lineup

Agreed. You pair 9 PMR drives and you will have a relative increase in power and performance. 9 watts isn't that much, it is only 9 joules/sec or 9 newton*meters/sec or 9 times all of this: * the energy required to lift a small apple one meter straight up. * the energy released when...

Super Talent Releases (Somewhat) Affordable SSD Lineup

Find that article where next gen or whomever put 9 of those SSDs in a RAID and then ran all kinds of benchmarks on those and about 15 other drives. I'm think power was one of them, but I can't be sure.

    Directron.com

Yea, good price. I usually see them for 125 or so, and buying a pair for a raid will save you at least 50 smackers. Which bring up the question, what raid to use and will the mobo raid driver suit me well, or should I use a stand alone card? I have my answers but everyone is welcome to share.
