    Is this motherboard shot?

My first thought was with 2Tired's on this one, I'd suspect the power supply first. Try to rule that out before replacing the entire motherboard, especially as if it is a bad PSU then it could potentially kill a new board.

    Is this mouse for real?!

I guess this product was intended for all those single guys to help bring their digital porn collections to life... That mouse is just appalling.

    GPGPU boom and the consequences…

Malware, virus, there isn't much difference as they are all various types of programs. There isn't really anything a virus would need to do that would require a GPU (I suppose it could borrow the GPU to crack encryption, but it'd make more sense to send the data elsewhere for cracking using...

    Win7 task scheduler....

It is definitely annoying that WIndows 7 routinely thrashes disks as much as it does, but generally a week or two after an install it seems to stop. The OS definitely needs a better program that shows what is causing or instigating CPU/GPU/RAM/HDD/NIC activity and why. I assume you already...

    PWM Fan question

Ah, well since you already have those, then obviously only replace the fans if you aren't happy with them. If you undervolt them and they start making noise or lose too much performance at acceptable volume levels then that's when you should pick up new fans.

    ASUS "Marine Cool" motherboard

This was last year's proof-of-concept board, it never actually saw production although concepts from it were used in other ASUS boards. ;)

    GPGPU boom and the consequences…

That's a rather interesting idea. The only way a virus could infect a GPU would be to write itself into the card's BIOS, pretty much the same way some viruses would write themselves into a motherboard's BIOS (and hence why some boards had built-in BIOS AV scanning on boot!). But having done so...

    PWM Fan question

PWM and voltage are two common methods for reducing the speed of computer fans. Undervolting them isn't as precise and it depends on the type of fan controller (They can use different methods to reduce voltage/current) as well as the fan for how well it will work. Different fans respond...

Some nice deals... buy the 120mm fan, get a case free? ;)

AMD Reveals "Fusion" at ISSCC 2010: CPU+GPU = APU

I'm certainly rooting for them... it'd be nice to see AMD launch something that is clearly a better product, and not just because it's much cheaper than the competition. :) If I recall correctly Intel's integrated CPU/GPU was going to only be DX10 as well, but I'm not sure it matters for small IGPs.

    Building an Affordable "Skulltrail" System

Aye, those old Socket A / Socket 462 Athlon boards did tend to suffer from that issue, often the CPU heatsink would help heat the caps around the socket and cause them to fail first, earlier than usual. eBay can be fairly safe if you're careful, just keep an eye on seller's feedback, date the...

Win 7 64 bit, just put in 4 more gigs for 8 total only shows 3.5 now?

Glad you found the problem. :) It's odd, as I wonder what caused that issue, because the OS should automatically detect and take advantage of more RAM... was the system in question using a version of Windows 7 that was done from an in-place upgrade? You're the second person that's had this...

Easy Boot Win 7 OS Install from pen drives....

I hadn't actually tested it, my comments were based purely off of the research I'd done. Just to be sure I have reformatted a USB drive with a known 64bit disc, then tried to run the bootsect.exe from within XP. I received the classic 64bit program error "E:\boot\bootsect.exe is not a valid...

Keeping Your Firefox in Sync with Mozilla's Weave

Interesting... Opera introduced this feature in 10.1, the only problem is I don't use my notebook anymore so I've not had the need to use it. Firefox really needed this ability though, nice to see it exists. :)

Apple's iPad Greeted to Cold Reception

My tone was fairly civil and I'm always willing to listen to a logical arguement and counter-pount. However attacking my "tone" numerous times does not in any way invalidate my points. The iPad does not meet the needs of any current markets, and I don't see anything more than a niche market for...

    Building an Affordable "Skulltrail" System

Fans can last as little as a year (most sleeve fans are lucky to make 2 years before they are shot, ball-bearing lasts 2-3 years roughly), and hard drives last 3-5 years roughly, although I have had many personally barely last 1 year and others last well beyond 5. High-end GPU's probably fall...

Music Sales Plummeted During Previous Decade

Well said Tharic, that pretty well sums up all the major points right there. :) As Tharic points out there are so many ways to "spin" these sorts of stories. If you read the article the data comes straight from the RIAA... and they appear to be spinning the story yet again by not including...

Are Games Becoming More Annoying to Play?

Microsoft's "Games for Windows Live" is probably the most inane system I've ever had the displeasure of using. I made the mistake of buying one game that requires it to function, and now the only thing Games for Windows has done is ensure I will never buy another game that uses it ever again...

Easy Boot Win 7 OS Install from pen drives....

No worries. :) And given you used an alternate method than what was in the article it really doesn't hurt anything anyway! One major issue with using the bootsect.exe method (and is why I didn't cover it), is that you cannot use a 64bit disc on a 32bit OS, you won't be able to execute...
