Problems Arise with Seagate's Momentus XT Mobile HDDs

I'll second that. Either stick with a hard drive, or get a full SSD. I like the concept of the Momentus XT, but I think it could use some refining first or at least a lower price premium.

Alright, second time around PC build

For $23 I guess ya might as well double the GB. There's not any real reason to do so, but it's nice to have enough RAM you never have to worry about running out or upgrading down the road. Especially if ya plan to use virtual machines or anything else of that ilk. :)

Minimize and Maximize Buttons Removed in GNOME 3

Things like that make me glad I do use Windows.... the minimize/maximize issue seems okay as the revised method would work fine. But why the hell would the OS not allow the laptop to stay on when the lid is closed? That's borderline asinine, I guess the dev team never took a full load of college...

Could We See a Windows 8 Beta this Fall?

Hmm, interesting. If they are considering a CTP release this fall that's amazingly quick... but there's no way they will launch a new OS before summer of next year I'd say. They spent a great deal of time fixing and modifying things based on user feedback generated during the Windows 7 CTP...

    I need WC help

Ah, well I looked on EK's site and the only models I saw which fit the 275 used a delerin/acrylic tops that didn't allow for it. If the model you're looking at does then you shouldn't have any trouble with routing whatsoever. The layout will depend mostly on where you place the pump/res in your...

Super Slow OS Loading, Missing DVD Drive & More!

Was it a new install or no? Might've been a simple cabling issue too, like if something's not seated right...

Report: Current SSD 'Secure Erase' Methods Don't Work

Probably why the new SF-2200 controller comes with built-in AES 256-bit encryption. Interesting article that looks at some viable means to wipe a drive: http://www.hackinthebox.net/misc/can-data-stored-on-an-ssd-be-secured.html

Problems Arise with Seagate's Momentus XT Mobile HDDs

A problem like this should've been spotted quickly by their Q&A team before they launched the drive.... I find it hard to believe they wouldn't spot it during the firmware testing and drive testing phases.

    Minecraft Gets a Video Documentary

That's insane, how can a game like Minecraft require a team to develop? I thought it was still a solo show... The latest 1.3 patch introduced completely smooth lighting effects and a huge list of updates. But it also broke a lot of things... more than half the time you can hug zombies now...

    I need WC help

The MCP655 is a good pump, just be sure you know if you're getting the 655-B or not. "B" doesn't stand for black, it's the cheaper, non-variable speed version. Which is fine, but for $10 more I'd say just get the variable pump Thermochill's rads are still very good, although thicker than some...

AMD Talks Down the Importance of x86 Performance

Running a video behind the game overlay? Right... If a person really cares about their GPU performace they're still going to use a real GPU, not an integrated solution like SandyBridge or Llano. Telling customers that CPU performance doesn't matter in regards to spreadsheets, emails, web...

What processors can be used to replace a Pentium 4 processor?

Tharic's spot on, as usual. :) I like his idea of an nano-ITX/micro-ITX Atom, although the GX280 SFF appears to use DDR2-400 memory. Atom motherboards fit DDR2 but I am uncertain if that will work, it may or may not need new DDR2. Some newer Atom boards will also fit the cheaper DDR3 though...

    Who's playing RIFT?

Haha, I skipped RIFT. Last thing I need is to spend more money on another game. :D I'm just now starting Civ 5... I can't believe how easy it is to crash this game. :(

    Corsair Force F90 90GB Solid-State Drive

You are indeed correct, the calculations are not nearly so simple. I am by far an expert but I can clarify what I can. Sorry for the length of this reply, but it is a very complex subject and you've posed a few things I'd like to try and properly address. :) You make the very true point about...

    Does Steam Eat Games?

Well, in rare instances also pops up when a game hasn't updated, or finished downloading an update. Also happens if you launch a game before Steam finished closing down the last one. That's as much as I know.

$700-$800 first time build need suggestions

Trotts, are those listings from Newegg? If they are you can use the code "Febsave10" without quotes to get 10% off that Corsair power supply. Yes, I think 650W is still more than plenty for your build. I'm not too sure about the Centurion 5 case, but I don't have any quick suggestions there...

    Does Steam Eat Games?

I'm a heavy Steam user and never experienced that issue before. I've experienced corrupted game files in the past but the verification fixed those easily enough. That error usually means the last game you played didn't actually shut down and that the game exe is still running. Next time it...

Mozilla to Ramp up Versioning Scheme in 2011

It's probably just a ploy to make computer users think it's a significantly upgraded version. Or more likely, they purposely do it so when users are running version 4 and notice version 7 out they will think their browser is horribly old and quickly go update it. ;)
