OS X is now FREE for ever!

Microsoft won't do that again, unless it feels insane pressure to compete somehow. As I said in the news post, Apple earns money off the hardware it sells... Microsoft doesn't earn money off of PC sales unless a Windows license is sold with it. That's the difference here.

OS X is now FREE for ever!

This isn't a great surprise, given the OS was inexpensive to begin with. It might be free but the hardware is still expensive. Linux can be used on a $40 RPi! Will jot up a post about this and some of the other announcements soon.

    Borderlands 2 revisited

It seems like Gearbox went a little too overkill on the leveling system this time around. In Borderlands 1, I maxed out two characters and it never felt like a grind (I put 250 hours into that game across those two maxed chars and then a level 30). I am almost wondering if I'd even reach max...

    Your Worst Enemy: Sitting

So do I. I eat a lot of it. /badpun In all seriousness, that's cool. I have a kettlebell here that I should really get in the habit of using for a minute or two throughout the day.

    Your Worst Enemy: Sitting

ERGOTECH has just posted a rather humorous blog post that covers an important subject: sitting. Dubbing it "your worst enemy", it's easy to understand where they are going with things even before you begin reading, and of course, it's designed to promote the company's recent release of the...

    Show off your desktop!

Been going through old backup DVDs today because I'm moving them over to my NAS so I can chuck the discs, and stumbled on this old screenshot: I was damned proud of that 20+ days uptime, haha. I ended up hitting 80 days the following year though.

The Bizarre Phobia You've Never Heard Of: Fear of Holes

When I read things like this, it makes me uber-thankful that I don't have a phobia like this. I'm just scared of low traffic numbers.

How rich do you have to be to turn down $9 million for nothing?

LOL, I do admit that's borderline absurd. Especially when you consider he's holding that kind of money back from a charity he could donate to... over a freaking vanity plate. Of course, it might help that I don't get attached to much in way of material things.

ASUS Introduces World's First Intel Thunderbolt 2-Certified Motherboard

Well, if by old you mean a week old :P I got caught up with things so I didn't post about it. I personally have no interest in Thunderbolt 1, so I certainly don't have interest in Thunderbolt 2, but when it comes down to it, I -really- don't like adopting the very first release of something...

    Digital Storm's Hydrolux cooling system

I have to say, this looks rather impressive: http://www.digitalstormonline.com/hydrolux.asp It's a little sad this won't be a stand-alone product, but that's not too surprising given Digital Storm's business. This has a neat feature where the internal chassis LED lighting will...

    The biggest-little revolution: 10 single-board computers for under $100

Jamie has been rather fascinated with this sort of computing, and owns one or two RPis. I think they're pretty interesting, but they just haven't grabbed me... kind of a "cool if you can use it" thing, but I have no interest in dabbing in it myself. I've heard of people using like up to 20 RPis...

    SSD performance measurement: Best practices

*brain_splode* Well, the i7-4960X is due out soon (as in, next week if rumors prove true), so that'd be the more attractive choice for sure (well, it's a generation ahead). Though I can't speak of its overclocking-ability, especially not with THAT kind of setup. I'd suspect 4.5GHz on an AIO...

    SSD performance measurement: Best practices

How's it going, Psi? I have been meaning to email you for a bit to see how things are going! Good article, I agree with the methods mentioned, and am glad that Iometer is being recommended for benchmarking (we use it, despite it being more of an enterprise tool as this article suggests). I'll...

How rich do you have to be to turn down $9 million for nothing?

As rich as Afzal Khan, I guess. He has the exclusive rights to the "F1" license plate in the UK, and he apparently prizes it quite a bit. He bought it a couple of years ago for nearly a million, and since then, it's skyrocketed in value...

The PC that would never turn off and how I saved the world

"I've personally come across dozens of computers that fail to boot, simply because of bad RAM." It's not that related, but last night I had a RAM not secured in 100%, and the PC turned on, but just for half a second. I was a little worried at first... but it's clear that RAM definitely is a...
