Nice job, Rob. Interesting results, as well. Especially, the power consumption. I was fully expecting the 6950, once O/C to draw more power than the 560. I also thought there would be a bigger difference in temps with the current trend of nVidia's improved cooling. Overall performance changes...

I'll betch'a if he tells nVidia he'll try and bake his 480 back from the dead unless they'd rather replace it he'll get a new card. That's all they need is another "Bumpgate".

Nice cooler. It would be a better cooler at 1/2 the price though. $200 for a cooler is just too dear. :(

Rob, While overall the GTX-480 is faster than the HD5870, do you have any insight on why the gap is so close at 2560*1600? Seems that as resolution goes up the "stronger" card would pull out even further. It's to the point that if you were choosing between these two cards at that one resolution...

Seems like nVidia is trying to be too much to too many people with Fermi. I think they need to make separate designs for the GPGPU market and then let the tech trickle down to the consumer end. Instead they've had nothing but rebrands for months. If Fermi manages to pressure ATI...

Some people actually harbor pretty strong hatred for the opposing brand. As of late, typically you can get about the same performance for a bit less money from ATI. It's looking like this round the difference might be a bit more exaggerated though. At least in pricing. The leaked benches...

While I do find it interesting that Fermi seems to handle tessellation much better than Cypress (being able to draw triangles on screen faster is an important spec), I also find it interesting that, other than that, Fermi doesn't appear to be performing any better than Cypress. Only 2...

I think the 26th is a "ready or not" release date. They've got something that works right now. It's not at all what they were shooting for, but they can't delay any longer. Their yields are still awful (the reason for only having a few 1000 chips) and clocks appear to be about 20% below...

I can't believe all of the excitement from some here? This card is already 5 months late and nowhere in sight. According to Nordichardware, "GeForce GTX 480 in stock in May at best". Then, from what's being said they're looking like vaporware. Why would anyone wait for this? Radeon 5000...
