Rovio Entertainment Acquires Futuremark Games Studio

Anyone else reading too fast and thinking Roxio there? Makes about as much sense either way.... :D But naw, Futuremark never took off with its three games like they'd hoped. And since Angry Birds have now moved into space... I'm sure the devs will be wanting to make bigger and better games in...

Steam needs to convert a game?

I have never seen that before, ever. And I moved my entire steam install directory over to a second SSD just recently using their "approved" method. Here's how they recommend it, it's pretty straightforward As marfig suggests, I bet it is just a DRM related file integrity / anti-modification...

Gamer Builds Functioning Scientific Calculator in Minecraft

The only math you need to know for Minecraft is to count up to 64, and that 1 lightning strike added to 1 creeper equals mass destruction. ;)

FREE AIDA64 Around March 28th ONLY

Very odd though... I do not believe 1.85 even supports z68 / X79 and other newest stuff from AMD? Pretty sure it won't recognize it and ask to be updated... Will download this and play around with it, I assume it'll at least recognize X58 chips. :D Thanks for the heads up!

Adobe Releases Photoshop CS6 Public Beta

People were ripping into this in another forum, apparently there's not much new except for some niche features. And why would they tout video editing support, when Adobe already sells Premiere and After Effects packages that specifically target and were optimized for video editing?

    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 Preview

GK104 is one hell of a card for gaming, it wins in performance, power, and price. But it gives up compute performance to get there. And because my 480 does just fine in any game I've tried I see no reason to upgrade on game performance alone. GK110 will be interesting when it launches later...

    Beer Thread!

I can't really speak for beer pasteurization, but I've noticed that a new brand of juice is showing up in US supermarkets... basically OJ, Apple, and some other flavors... but it's not pasteurized. It's being marketed as a premium juice with better flavor and higher vitamin/mineral content...

Steam DLC implementation can ruin your game.

I have quite a few opinions on this, so I'll just go down the list. :) I rather prefer Steam to buying in physical stores. I always pay way less, are guaranteed to be in stock, and I can still price shop around. Steam is better than other sources for showing what games have what DLC...

    The Joys of Purchasing Content

Brett said it pretty concisely there. I'm just glad that the ball is rolling downhill towards the day when the publishers either need to get back to acting as a "publisher", or are bypassed altogether. The sooner they quit taking 60-80% of every artist/author's $1 (none of which pays for...

OCZ RevoDrive Hybrid PCIe Hybrid SSD Review

I fully agree! Instead of playing Russian roulette with one gun, they might as well just use two, one in each hand. But again, the hybrid does NOT RAID the two SSDs, so a partial failure shouldn't nuke all the data as far as I am aware. Ouch! You had to mention those bloody things... I...

    It's Time for Pi

Pizza pie, the next best thing. :) Are they still having supply issues with those? I'm amazed the demand knocked out two websites, especially given the cost of shipping is a very large chunk of the final price!

Storing a Terabyte of data on Abacus's i mean Abacii....

Cute marketing gig. :) Bandwidth is cheap, but not that cheap. And there's also the cost of electricity + maintaining infrastructure. Sounds like another one of those bait & switch storage runs, where after luring in customers they raise their rates. Customers either have to pay to get their...

OCZ RevoDrive Hybrid PCIe Hybrid SSD Review

That's the exact reason for this product though... in the situation you describe, just HALF of the capacity (two 240GB SSDs) would still more than double the final cost versus the 1TB Hybrid. There are also issues with RAIDing SSDs together... lack of TRIM, and the data risk involved if one...

An Introduction to FreeNAS - The Do-It-Yourself NAS OS

Thanks for the reply Greg! I wasn't paying enough attention, thought ya had built it! :o But yes, I would be extremely interested in seeing those numbers when ya do have the time to run them. Will be looking forward to that! I'm not sure that's entirely possible, or better to say it at least...

    Almost missed a flight because...

Haha, that probably would've worked. There's always an airport Hilton... glad you managed to get ahold of the information! Had the same issue with UK customs a few years ago, they don't let you in unless you give them an exact address to find you. Just plain silly indeed to turn someone about...

Gearbox Releases Borderlands 2 Launch Trailer

Yeah, this one's on my list! And from Amazon too which is awesome... pre-order discount and a guarantee on a refund if they drop the price at all before it ships. But wow.... six months away? Ouch!

An Introduction to FreeNAS - The Do-It-Yourself NAS OS

Interesting... FreeNAS does support VPN connections although it takes a bit of work to get it going. That is something I'm very interested in for remotely accessing my NAS, yet only the newer model QNAP boxes have it baked in so I'm out of luck with my NAS box. That's a surprisingly expensive...

A Quick Look at Windows 8 Consumer Preview

I don't know. On one hand, they needed to do exactly this to address the increasingly mobile-centric users out there. And there are a half-dozen fixes and optimizations done under the hood, such as the unloading and stopping of idling services instead of leaving them running in memory as 7...

    8-bit Daft Punk!

Out of the first set, have to say I liked Son of Flynn the most, is the kind of tune I'd enjoy laser blasting baddies to. ;) Some other goodies in there though, will have to listen to the other set now!
