Computers are found in more homes and businesses than ever before and have become such a large part of daily life that they are often forgotten about until they become unavailable. I personally like to refer to this as the golden age of computing, simply because of the level of accessibility, low cost and high performance we are now seeing.

That photo gives entirely new meaning to swapping out the hard disk, or putting two together in RAID. :D

I recognize this isn't too long ago, but I remember my tech friend and I drooling over 1TB HDDs (2006ish). Also remember Battleship Mtron like it was yesterday!

On the RAMAC, just imagine designing that thing from scratch

I remember geeking out about 1TB drives back then and how they would never come down in price enough for me to buy one...oops.

...or ever imagining I could actually have a need for one of them, let alone two... :p

There was a mass of images to go with this, but had to make do with one. Steampunk eat-your-heart out with some... pneumatic disc heads and latches... high speed metal discs, lots of pipes...

Not all part of the 305, but you get the idea... Shame about Drums... they would look soooo cool in the modern office...
