Looking for a good free MMO

Like the title says I'm searching for a good free MMO that is resonably popular. I'm not really afraid of grind-fests and I guess it sounds weird but I love being able to have over 1000 health and mana and deal 1000's of damage with sweet skills (mainly the reason I stopped playing Guild Wars).
So tell me what you play and what you hate.

MMO? Eve Online always seemed interesting... but I'm not into forking out money for a subscription to keep playing. ;)

I played EVE for a little while on an account my friend let me borrow. It's a interesting concept but I'm not really into the whole spaceship flying around space type thing. Sorry I should have specified, I'm looking for fantasy MMO's. :p

There are quite a few games out there you could look at, that are free to play. But it also depends on what style of game you are looking for. Cutesy or realistic? PvP,PvE, or both?

Shaiya, http://shaiya.aeriagames.com/, is a F2P game and is set up nice, and is currently the game I'm playing while I wait for WAR and Aion. It has quite a few features that have dubbed it one of the better F2P models, at least in my opinion.

There's also Rohan, http://www.playrohan.com/ , which will be going into open beta soon, that I believe will also be a F2P model. I played in the CB and it was pretty good.

They both have good graphics and use WASD key controls (point and click too if you prefer), and have decent leveling. The only thing they lack is overall customization for your character, but most F2P games do.

The only F2P game I've seen that has a lot of character creation options is Perfect World. http://www.perfectworld.com.my/ It is a very nice looking game, but it had a few features I did not like which lead me to part with it. It could be your cup of tea though, one never knows.

I could list a few more, but these are the top three I have played. Good luck finding a game. :)

Jen I looked into Rohan and it looks better than all the others. The servers are down at the moment because they are currently performing the transition from CB to OB. Should be up to play around the 15th of May. What other games can you list?

I tried the demo of EVE...... a little boring, flying around, mining asteroids for lunch money. But the effects were kewl.

I totally agree with you. It had some really cool features that I would love to see in some of todays upcoming fantasy MMO's like having a notepad to write on, being able to send message to fellow players quick and easy, having an awesome chat system, and yeah the effects were cool. I loved the look of it. How everything looked like it had been created pixel-by-pixel and gave it a unique effect.

Hellgate London is pretty good, its a MMOFPS, you have to buy the game but its free online. Probably the best graphics you'll find of any MMO.

Sword of the New World is interesting great graphics and it sets itself apart from the rest by allowing you to control three characters at once.

Perfect world is good. Great graphics. No two characters will ever looks the same, good music.

Fury , looks pretty good haven't played it myself...its completely PvP tho no PVE.

The three that I played were pretty good((better then alot you have to pay for)) and fury looks pretty good so looking in to any of those would be worth it.

I thoroughly enjoyed playing Anarchy Online, it's free to play for the base game, that includes in game advertising. If all you want to do is log on, adventure a little and go on a couple of missions, this is fun. It's a futuristic Bladerunner type world.

Guild Wars also has a free to play option. It's a little more medieval times and almost all encounters are instanced, meaning you're either alone, or with people you brought with you. The towns are common areas where you can meet up with other players.

Dungeon Runners is also free to play, if you like Diablo -esque games, this is a nice mmo option. Again, mostly instanced with towns being common areas. They're a little harsh on the free players, but if you don't care about being picked on a little, this is a nice little fun game.
