EVGA's X58 SLI isn't a new offering, but it's still quite relevent. So, we're taking a fresh look at the board to see where it stands in today's competition. While its overclocking-ability may not be overly impressive, EVGA makes it apparent that they don't cut corners and deliver a board that's attractive to both gamers and new system builders alike.

At least the X58 EVGA is not blowing hot air onto the GPU like the 780 does.

This reviews isn't fair for teh overclocking functionality of this board.

MANY MANY MANY people have a 4.0ghz + I7-920 running on this exact board. I am at a 211 bclk with 100% stability at 19x multiplier. I can run 8 hours of x64 prime 95 with 8 threads. I'm not sure if you got a bad board, or if you should have played with the voltages more, but there are surefire guides to get to 3.8 or 4.0ghz on the EVGA forums, and I've not read of people that can't at least hit that. The EVGA administrators themselves have posted surefire guides. Should have checked there first before writing this board off as a decent overclocker.

Those OC results are surprising, but in fairness the review appeared in March 2009, well before either thread you linked to. If Rob still has the board I hope he can flash the BIOS and try a suicide OC run!

I've used about forty motherboards since that review, so I can barely remember what it even looks like. I stand by my comments at the time nonetheless. I am not huge on overclocking and it's pretty much the reason I don't focus on it much in any of our more recent content.

Each board overclocks differently anyway. All that you can do is go with what the review sample can do. Until a perfect manufacturing process is devised (ha!), them's the breaks.
