You need to have a 64-Bit version of Windows. Just install HL2 like any other time, it will automatically use the 64-Bit version. You will know, because it will say "64-Bit" in the corner.

Yes I did... but I didn't notice anything like that happening. It's not in the PC anymore (this was actually all done early last month) but I will be hooking it up again later this week to see if anything like that happens.
