    Going Vista 64-Bit...

I agree with all points here. Windows XP will be the better choice for the ultimate in battery life. It won't make a huge difference, but it could easily add at least 10 minutes to it. Vista can be good as well, but like Kougar said, getting 4GB might be the thing to do if it's feasible. It's...

Windows XP's SP3 Makes Reverting to IE6 Impossible

That is very strange... You might have been able to just re-install IE6. There is a setup file available on the Microsoft site somewhere that would download the required files and re-install it. I am not sure that would fix the problem though (and it might just tell you it's installed already)...

Student? Get 91% Off Microsoft Office Ultimate

For personal sites, Frontpage might be a fine choice, but for something more serious, or in a business environment, it has no place. The problem is that FP, when I last used it, sticks way to close to how the other Office products handle things, when it shouldn't. Frontpage should be like...

NeroLinux 3 Updated to 3.5, Receives Command-Line & Eee PC Support

http://mews.org.uk/glitter/ In a quick search, Glitter looks like it can handle what you need it to. Download and compile the .tar.gz version. If you are not sure how to do that, let me know.

AMD Updates CPU Launch Schedule - Phenom 9850 Due In a Few Weeks

That does make sense. The benefit of Skulltrail though is that it's all in one rig and would use less power than two different Quad-Core rigs. The ASUS Z7 WS board, as far as I know, retails for under $500, but I could be wrong. Then there are the Xeon's, like the ones I used in my article...

    Grr, motherboard benchmarks!

Ok, I see what you are getting at now... I'm a little slow. I do have to disagree though. The FSB is a FSB, it has nothing to do with the multiplier except the obvious. If an FSB hits 500MHz without issue at 500x6, then 500x9 shouldn't prove a problem either, unless the CPU isn't going to handle...

    C-Media 8788 for Linux

Haha... it's sad. The fact that it requires a power connector probably gets everyone. I was in your situation. Had it installed, I saw lights coming out the back, yet no sound. It was at that point that I figured it just wasn't going to work for me in Linux. I felt stupid when I cracked open the...

Is Intel harming USB 3.0 before its release?

Well, the 10x speed increase would be fantastic for external storage. Imagine thumb drives that could be copied to as fast as a regular hard drive. I am not saying that's what will happen (because it depends on the chips), but it should be a possibility.

    16-year-old survives 25,000V blast

Thanks a lot for the info current2, it's appreciated! I have to admit I actually chuckled at the urine story... as sad as it actually is. I had no idea at all that something like that was possible. Obviously, it doesn't seem like many people do. Good links as well... goes to show that...

Is Intel harming USB 3.0 before its release?

Which in itself is ridiculous, since they had the biggest hand in developing it.

Intel Core 2 Duo E7200 - The New Budget Superstar?

The retail ones do indeed come with a cooler. It's the OEM versions that do not. And yes, it should be just fine for 3.0GHz on a stock cooler, since no extra voltage is required. Once you get it, just overclock to 3.0GHz and set the CPU voltage to 1.250v and see how that goes. Are you familiar...

Intel Core 2 Duo E7200 - The New Budget Superstar?

Glad the review helped! Coincidentally, I just noticed the release also. I posted about it in our news. I very well doubt you will regret that purchase... it's a fantastic price and a great processor. I'm thinking of picking one up to replace my mom's aging Pentium D 2.8GHz. Hard to believe...

    Grr, motherboard benchmarks!

Like I mentioned, I am not looking to overclock the E8400, so I'm not worried about changing a multi. Keeping it 500x6 means I can leave the CPU voltage alone, since it's still at stock speeds. "What's the fun of a high FSB without an actual increase in the CPU frequency?" If it were a CPU...

Is Intel harming USB 3.0 before its release?

Charlie at the Inq is a little pissed off with Intel, and it seems he well has the right to be. According to him (could be elsewhere also, I don't know), Intel is only allowing friends (aka: non-competition) have access to the complete USB 3.0 spec. That means these companies can get to work on...

AMD Updates CPU Launch Schedule - Phenom 9850 Due In a Few Weeks

I'm not saying that desktop users don't have the need for a 12-core, but they are very few. Folders would make up the biggest portion, I believe. I agree about the P4 thing. Those beasts just suck down so much power and don't deliver good enough results. It means a higher power bill for no...

Windows XP's SP3 Makes Reverting to IE6 Impossible

From our front-page news: According to recent findings, once a Windows XP machine is upgraded to service pack 3, it's impossible to uninstall Internet Explorer 7, if it happens to be installed. It's a truly odd bug, though, because if you install SP3 with IE6 installed, you can install IE7 after...

Student? Get 91% Off Microsoft Office Ultimate

At $60, there is no way it's overpriced. I do agree the lack of Visio makes little sense, especially in an "Ultimate" product, though. I haven't used Frontpage in a while, but from what I remember, it's the most useless product of the entire Office line-up. It spits out asinine code that...

FBI Finds 3,500 Pieces of Cisco Equipment Used in Secure US Networks

From our front-page news: I think it's safe to say that there is no such thing as true security anymore, because the news of poor security measures used in important agencies (government, banks) is never-ending. Take this latest case, where the FBI found 3,500 pieces of counterfeit Cisco...

NVIDIA's Huang Discusses His Distaste for Intel

From our front-page news: NVIDIA's CEO, Jen-Hsun Huang, is a vocal man. If something rubs him the wrong way, he'll let the world know about it. You have to respect that, especially when he's not afraid to tell the industry at large that Intel's wrong. We first learned of his intense angst...

NVIDIA to Simplify Their Product Lineup to Help Appeal to Wider Audience

That pretty much says it all, and it's unfortunate. Tech enthusiasts see through this, but the normal consumer wouldn't. It just bugs me that instead of seeing a new design, we get rehashed products with higher clock speeds. That's what the 9800GTX is, but it's so well-priced, it's hard to be...
